The humorist Craig Brown has written a sequel to 1066 And All That called 1966 and All That - All the Modern History You Can't Remember (covering the period from 1918 to the present day). If you know "1066" you'll recognise the style - if you don't, please be assured that ALL the wrong spellings and misinformation are intentional! Here is his take on the Redlands affair

They were brilliant - but I don't think my ears would stand it twice in two days! Nice to see how the Endless Wire songs are changing and developing on the road too - from the sketchy stuff on the album through what they did at the Electric Proms last autumn to last night's performance - and on into the future no doubt.

Out of the blue, someone who couldn't go gave me a ticket! Loved The Answer (like a young Northern Irish Led Zeppelin), enjoyed Jet, then took refuge from the worst rain of the afternoon in Joe Satriani's tent. Sound in there was a bit strange at first but once that was sorted the rest of his set was brilliant. It was pretty muddy when I came out, but no more rain, and Aerosmith wer

These 3 discs of their singles in chronological order are a potted history of the early Stones. Disc 1 has their first breakthrough singles - mostly covers until Satisfaction gives a blazing foretaste of things to come. Then at the end of disc 2, after We Love You and Dandelion and She's a Rainbow and 2000 Light Years and In Another Land and The Lantern, you can hear the sudden change of m

"Or a circular track that moves around the perimeter of the stadium would be very cool." (They could play Around & Around on it... but imagine the sound problems! The present B-stage is complicated enough.) The B-stage is great fun and lets those of us who are not rich enough to be FOS get a better look at the band. Also, it looks to me as if the band themselves enjoy it. K

They were certainly spectacular at the IOW - huge sound & light show, dizzying and at times deafening, but some good songs in there too, and you can see from the above that the crowd enjoyed it - but ultimately it felt sort of empty to me.

"TF Madness" by Carbon/Silicon (Who include Mick Jones of the Clash & Tony James of Generation X). I saw their set in a 2 p.m. slot at the Isle of Wight and immediately wrote GET CD on my programme. That's what festivals are for - discovering a great band you never knew existed. However, there isn't a physical CD, except for a 4-track EP of "The News" whi

No, start where their original teenage fans started, with some of the best 60s stuff! The London Years or Aftermath or even the first album would be good. It's got all the early energy and strangely enough it's now SO old that it sounds fresh again.
