I love milk straight from the bottle in the fridge - usually in the middle of the night for some reason. As for sell-by dates, the supermarkets always set them well on the safe side, and they are NO substitute for a good suspicious sniff. Kids will grow up unable to tell when food has "gone off" because they rely absolutely on sell-by dates.

I've still got lots to discover - after listening to some of the outtakes courtesy of Hot Stuff I've finally just acquired a copy of Their Satanic Majesties. 2000 Man sounds like the Kinks, the reprise of Sing This All Together sounds like Mike Oldfield having an off-day, and the sound-effects are sometimes irritating, but I'm glad I bought it. I'm busy "learning"

"Rolling stone" meaning a wanderer is an American idea. The English know the proverb about a rolling stone gathering no moss (whatever THAT means!) but when Brian came up with the name "Rollin' Stones" somebody said it sounded like a troupe of Irish acrobats, and everybody hated it. Even now if somebody is described as a Rolling Stone in the UK people think first of a m

The director made sure the camera concentrated on the young & sexy in the crowd for the Biggest Bang videos. That's understandable. But hiring fake young & sexy "fans" goes beyond what I'd consider fair play. That said, I'm not going to let it spoil my enjoyment of Shine A Light when we finally get it.

It wasn't just weather and transport. Many of the countries they visited on the 1793 tour of Europe were at war with each other, so getting the band from England to France without getting shot as spies was a big problem. However, there was an informal arrangement where distinguished scholars and philosophers were allowed to come and go in neutral ships for genuine scientific purposes.

No, I often can't make out exactly what Mick is singing. And when I can, I don't always understand what he means. Lyric sites don't always help. I was rather surprised to see that according to the usually reliable timeisonourside, Mick sings "You're here, digging again" in She Smiled Sweetly. If that isn't really "begin again" I'll eat

Both Keith and Mick (Mick particularly) have always been great mimics and Mick has a whole library of fake accents to use for particular songs, starting from his teenage years when his mum remembered him doing La Bamba in mock-Spanish. I doubt if his "mockney" spoken English is his original real accent - it's just that in the mid 60s it was fashionable to be either working-class o

Yes and no - I always loved the early Stones from the first time I heard them, but as I grew up and the music changed there was a long period from about 1972 to the late 80's when I stopped listening, not only to the Stones but to rock and pop in general, and got into classical, folk, early music and world music instead. Around 1989 I bought the London Years collection (in fact the firs

If you want to end up doing something well, you have to start out by doing it badly! One of the best pieces of advice I was ever given. Don't leave, Nelson. Your English is already pretty good and getting better all the time. Us English-speakers don't know how lucky we are, and we have no right at all to criticise.
