QuoteLieB It's been discussed here before, but definitely deserves more attention. Yeah, that instrumental definitely feels like Wild Horses, Next Goodbye, Winter, Plundered My Soul and Watching the River Flow. Haha..exactly! More attention...it is the highlight from those tapes. Were they actually from Nellcote?

QuoteRedhotcarpet QuoteEleanor Rigby yeah I like JJF alot....but I rarely watch it as the Stones part is pretty average IMO. A lot of it seems forced to me and Brian is nowhere!! A change they needed.... What!? No! They were great! A bit forced from Mick for sure (like he's trying out his new persona) but Keith was on fire. And something else... Keith only...

Stray Cat is better studio. SFTD is just different...really hard to line up. HTW is better studio. JJF without vocal overdubs would be on par with studio.

Quoteoldschool Personally I mostly listen to live music and I am a bit of a purist in that I generally avoid official live albums as they usually have overdubs and other fixes done in the studio. This is why I prefer bootlegs warts and all. I'm with you here oldschool. However, if I do have guests over and chuck on The Stones, then I'd put Ya Ya's on before a distant aud recordi

Quoteboogaloojef It's too bad they didn't play Gimme Shelter for the recorded shows. The glaring omission is Satisfaction. Regardless of whether it appeared on an earlier live album, that song was huge during the 69 Tour..and sounded unbelievable at MSG. I guess time restriction on the LP was prob why it was omitted.

Quoteoldschool Most books of this type are compilations of info from interviews, other books and magazine/ newspaper articles though are they not? very true. It just felt like a cut/paste job to me....as I had read nearly all of his Altamont "accounts" before over the years. As I said...still worthwhile.

My gripe with this book is that the author was not in attendance at the show. All his "accounts" are from research/interviews and other books which have been written about the show previously. When reading the Altamont section it felt like it was a combination of 20+ Altamont books/articles I had read in the past...like a compilation. Still worthwhile.

Quotetheimposter I love this version. It's probably the closest live version to the studio recording, though it manages to sound even scuzzier than that. And I personally think it takes balls to go for a solo in open G. Agreed. Ballsy from the whole band in fact..especially considering the conditions! Think it worked well.

would that shot of Jagger in the trailer be from Altamont? He was there, with the Maysles the night before the show....and backstage the band squeezed into a trailer/caravan. Actually...I do know of that trailer pic you talk about and it was said to be from Palm Beach... West Palm beach was the last show...I always thought the footage in Gimme Shelter movie when Keith is freezing getting out

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 That is how a gig should be. No damn phones, crowd right up to the stage, leaning on the monitors. Is this clip really "Satisfaction" though? Janis dancing? Who f&&cken knows...but seems legit to me. Satisfaction on the 69 tour was awesome...how it didnt get onto YA YA's is staggering.

Surely being The Stones is more interesting than this??? I still cant believe how uninteresting this film is. Reading Stanley Booth's 1969 book I was expecting so much more from 1972...
