Hello, has anybody tried to declip Blue and Lonesome? If so, which tracks/all of them? In which software and which algorithm? I tried to do it in Audacity and Clip Fix, by reduction of volume -3 or -2,5 dB dB and the Clip Fix at 95 per cent, also 98 per cent gave me good results. I visited my friend who has some better declipping software and applied on some tracks with -2,5 dB volume gain reduction and declip. Results are great. Some distortion remained but that is OK. Wonder why the album has been mastered this way (distortion + middle brickwall). Maybe in the studio they applied distortion to non - brickwalled version and evaluated primarily that - just a speculation.

Yes it can be effect of Micks voice. But sometimes too strong e.g. tracks 4,5,12 on some places it is annoying to me. I could have been minimized by not clipping the audio. It is not clipped as much as e.g. A Bigger Bang, but the distortion from clipping contributes to the overall (already "effected" sound).

That was me. Yes I still think that especially some tracks have been too much distorted or compressed. I tried audacity with Clip Fix, some tracks have subjective improved but I do not know to what extent that is because of the volume drop and to what because of Clip Fix. I wish the album had been mastered differently. But the tracks are good and bands performance is great.

Yes they did it right except mastering. I have only audacity with clipfix (e.g. decrease volume by 2-4 dB and the clipfix with 95 per cent) , so my possibilities are limited, but I have already made an attempt with slightly increased DR (+2-3 DR) on tracks 2,3,4,5,7,9,12 and slightly 11. The result is subjectively much better, since distortion has decreased. I never did this with Stones' alb

From this outcomes that the slower tracks with lower DR like I Gotta Go, All Your Love, I cant quit you baby, Commit a Crime or Hoo Doo Blues can benefit from declipping.

So it is clear now. Whether intentional or not, that "overdistortion" thing I spoke about is a matter of production/mastering, not a bands own performance. If you want to try it then decrease volume and declip in Audacity, or try to use some other plugin. Still some (good) distortion is present, but it is not as intrusive as on the CD. On some tracks this is prominent, some sound +- OK

By the way, when declipped the distortion seems to me less problematic ... If I decrease volume and declip in Audacity the harshness is suddenly at acceptable level ... I wonder why loudness wars still continue

Yes I agree 24 bit is an improvement since the sound does not have big quantization error and does not have to be strictly dithered.

Voodoo Lounge had good impact. Undercover also in the sense of more modern style. Some songs from Bridges to Babylon also. Just to add up - Everybody Knows about my good thing has completely OK sound.
