Amongst my lifelong interest in things British like the Stones and the entire British invasion has been James Bond. Being the right age as an adolescent/teen in the 60s I loved Bond and all the spy shows like Avengers, I Spy and Man from Uncle. The main thing I remember liking about OHMSS which I recently watched a part of (have the amazing box set of all Bond films on blu-ray) are the skiing

QuoteGasLightStreet Bud Light is promoting free water in beer taverns. Wonderful. Seeing that Philadelphians love Cheese Whiz, that shouldn't be a problem at all. Agree about the Bud Light. The rest of your post is kind of trollish, but I took the bait. Philly is a long recognized foody restaurant city and every city is famous for some sort of local junk food delight that bewilders o

Parade starts at 11:00. Bud Light is promoting free beer in taverns/pubs along the route as part of their Dilly Dilly ad campaign converted to Philly Philly for the occasion. Expect this to be a raucous celebration but less likely to get out of hand with lots of families in attendance and during daylight hours with massive police presence. No late night drunks. Philly loves the Eagles, but

Perhaps I am oversimplifying, but what just happened in the NFC playoffs and SB seems to demonstrate that a good QB can win with the right pieces in place on the rest of the team. Foles was good enough to step in when Wentz went down because the other pieces were in place, especially receivers and O-line. However, he had to perform at a high level to make it all work. If the Eagles had a typical

Happens to me a lot, usually when someone learns that I am a Stones geek. But the conversation will often be that they remember seeing the Stones during some decade and, after I quiz them a bit, I tell them what year it was. HBK

I've been a Wishbone fan since the 70's and seen them in every lineup incarnation multiple times including just last September. Andy and Ted co-exist in separate bands now and some of the fans are in one or the other's camp. However Andy Powell owns the name and has has released many excellent WBA LPs over the years whereas Ted simply relives the older "warhorses".

In part, the ambivalence is due to the bad reputation Philly sports fans have which makes them easy to root against. That reputation is deb

Although technically a Mick solo track, his version of Memo from Turner is vastly different from the band version. Using that approach we could get into tracks like Lonely at the Top. HBK

Hampton video is much better because it was shot as a multi-camera professional pay-per-view television event. From what I can tell, Leeds seems to be taken from the cameras used for the video screens in the stadium and is almost all head shots or waist-up angles at best. The viewer rarely gets to see guitars being played or full band member camera angles. For this reason, I love the audio, bu

Not Fade Away and I Just Want Make Love ... listening to late night Detroit AM from my small town Michigan home. 1964 - 10 years old. It's all Over Now sealed the deal but, truth be told, I was into all the British bands equally and I didn't become a Stones diehard until Ya-Yas smashed me over the head when I was 17. HBK

I've posted this before on an Exhibitionism thread. ". . . There's a section on Stones in the studio where you can listen to several tunes with a fake studio mixing board. You can adjust the faders up or down for vocals and instruments. Listen to Rocks Off with just Nicky's piano. A true revelation of his subtle but important contribution to the band's sound in those y

Thanks to Hopkins for another brainy rant. One of my best friends is a Lou fanatic to the same level that I love the Stones. I've seen Lou with him maybe a dozen times over the years going back to early 70's. I love all the usual standards, but my go-to LP is Legendary Hearts and the track Bottoming Out. HBK

So this is possibly among the longest trips, but a little unorthodox, to say the least. I have to travel from Philadelphia to Sydney on business in October. But instead of flying directly back to the US, I will continue around the world and fly from Sydney to Paris, via Hong Kong, for the last show. Then home to Philly to complete the circumnavigation of the earth, thanks to the Stones (and

I think the improvement in the technology since the nineties in large hI res video screens and programable LED lighting has made fancy stage designs less important. The fans in the rear sections get am amazing visual display which may actually be better. I'd rather see twin 60 ft images of Keith in real time than a giant inflatable or fire breathing dragon. HBK

I'm enjoying the discussion here as it's evolved into a comparison to Ya-Yas and that's the basis of my reaction to LYL. LYL came out on or near my 24th birthday. I was already on my 3rd copy of Ya-Yas and had probably seen L&G 20 times by then. Not to mention my worn out cassette of Brussels 73. Saw the Stones for the first time in 72 at MSG and several times in 75, most

I attended most east coast gigs on the tour from Toad's Place (pulled some shenanigans to get in) to the final night in Atlantic City . . . maybe 13 shows total. Biggest positive - a great crop of new songs and rarely played oldies like Rooster, Play with Fire, 2000LR etc. Plus warhorses neglected since '75-76 like GS, MR, IORR. Biggest negative - What the hell happened to the gu

Nice archival footage of the '78 stadium experience and really appreciate the effort put into to sharing it. I kinda wish the audio was from any of the many 78 soundboards rather than a mix of Love you Live and 2000 era stuff. I get the Monkey Man tribute, but Just saying . . . . HBK

I came down from Philly for both DC shows. This was the first tour that I started saying to my friends that the Stones had something to prove to keep me traveling to their gigs. I loved the stage but was quite annoyed with some of the staging BS like the guy on stilts etc. Glad they got rid of it soon after. Live debut (for me at least) of Not Fade Away, Monkey Man, Memory Hotel, Hot Stuff

The evolution of the set lists is one of my favorite topics. Adding 60's gems back to the set list started in 81, continued with Steel Wheels with additions of Rooster, PIB, 2000LY, Play with Fire. Plus this was to me the beginning of the warhorse era by bringing back SFTD, MR, IORR and GS which were abandoned from 78 to 82. Then, despite all of the complaints about the warhorse era,

Yo Glimmerman! So happy to see you are still rockin' with the Pontiacs. Love that you are doing this. Wish I could be there with some of the old Philly gang. Will be thinking of you. BTW July 12th is our wedding anniversary and daughter Haley is getting married this weekend with some of the usual local suspects in attendance. Rock on my friend. Best wishes to family. HBK
