QuoteStoneage In what way do three young girls playing fifty years old, outdated, rock music give you hope about the future of rock music? (I'm not particularly impressed by them anyway. They sound like any replica band. A bit more amateurish though. The difference is sex and age.) I find hope in seeing them enjoying themselves playing old tunes and they are good at it from my perspective

Some nice covers collected here for our enjoyment. Chris Robinson Brotherhood also did a long version of Let it Bleed that rates in my book.

They give me hope as well! I liked their performance of Crossroads. Maybe they should add Dance Little Sister to the repertoire...

I agree with OP, Greta Van Fleet make good music. Everything is derivative if you are honest but these guys know what they are doing. It's fun to listen to and especially because there isn't enough of that ilk to be found anymore. Fratellis are great too. I also recently discovered Nick Waterhouse and Samantha Fish...was delighted to hear musicians that can still create tunes that swi

Sorry if I missed it in over 200 pages...has anyone discussed the possibility that a new album may drop as surprise release before the tour? I recall that U2 and Bowie (sans tour) pulled this stunt and younger acts (Beyonce, JayZ) are known to do so and generate buzz. Simply curious what people think...

QuoteHairball Quotemaumau in retrospective I must say that Steel Wheels is the lowest point for me. Not much in songwriting as soundwise. That is an album that tries hard to "fit in" certain '80ies trends. The result I dont like, and it spoils also the good songs for me. In some ways Steel Wheels it can be seenas a "case study" of Mick's falling short of his ambit

QuoteBoognish This article might be morbid and poorly written but the author does have a point. There will be a time when the artists we love from the 1960s and 1970s won't be here anymore. And it'll be soon. It's weird to think about but that's life. We're not immortal. Look at the jazz greats from the classic era, the blues greats, they're all gone (with an excepti

Quotefranzk When you think of dying artists think also how many great artists are being born but we don't know them yet. I agree with that! I see the Chronicle "story" only as a conversation starter about simply an obvious and inevitable truth...people do die. But the conversation is healthy too because often the artists who ought to be cherished and discussed don't remain

He's got a point and it would probably sound pretty good if they actually collaborated on the music and spent time as a band massaging the tunes like they did in the old days.

The rock-star die-off to come The demographics spell doom By Craig Hlavaty January 13, 2016 Updated: January 13, 2016 9:03am 4 The Rolling Stones. Image 6 of 16 The Rolling Stones. This month two deaths rocked us rock fans. The first was Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, a gravelly-voiced pirate of a man. I revered him as a leathered deity. For 70 years, he kept the volum
