QuoteEdith Grove A little known fact about the first manned moon landing is that you have more computer power sitting in your lap or on your desk than the Apollo 11 capsule had. Imagine the audacity it takes to strap yourself on top of a Saturn V rocket and shoot yourself 384.000 km into space and become the first person to set foot on another world. There are very, very few explorers in th

I've been to Natchez, beautiful town. But I'm curious - what is the special interest in Natchez from a former spanish teachers point of view? Is there a Spanish connection to the place? Natchez was part of the Spanish kingdom in the late 18th century. The urban layout of the town is similar to the French Quarter of New Orleans than anything Spanish colonial that I've seen, but t

Ok, thanks for the info! I passed by the Clothes Spin by chance the first time I was there. Bourbon Street...been there, done that...I prefer the rest of French Quarter and the Garden District. Going to check out that website now...

I am stationed in Louisiana and will be going back to visit New Orleans for the long weekend. What are the Stones-related sites (besides the Superdome) there? Thanks in advance!

As a Spanish language and literature major in college, I frequently read language and linguistics journals. I do remember coming across a journal article about the Stones' use of African-American slang in their lyrics...I seem to remember "Monkey Man" being cited. I don't remember any bibliographical information - I have been trying to locate the article since I found it the f

I'm going to Athens to run in a 5k Monday at 8am. I'll have on a Stones shirt. Hope to see some people there. The more I visit GA, the more I like it. Has anyone ever eaten at the Swamp Guinnea (sp?) in Hartwell?

I've been on a Robert Johnson kick since this thread appeared... In the latest issue of Harper's there is a review of the Wald book as well as an interesting story of blues detective work: Harper's November 2008 "Unknown Bards" Unfortunately I am unable to scan/post the article and the link only has the title and other info (article/pdf for subscribers only); I wan

I'm not sure if that's it. Otherwise that sound would be heard during almost the entire song, or at least when Ronnie is playing.

Thanks for the article. I was led to youtube to listen to some RJ songs there: Clapton's "Me and Mr. Johnson" sessions as well as the Stones' "Love in Vain" from 1994. Question: On "Love in Vain" from Stripped, there is a "knocking" sound around 3:35 and 3:50. Any ideas of what it is? I have always wondered about this. Sorry if this info is

Thanks for the photos of Budapest and the Cavern Club...cool thread. Currently living in Greenville, SC. I think the only landmark nearby is Death Valley Stadium at Clemson Univ., site of the 11/26/89 show. Interestingly, i've seen two Stones books that refer to this show and list it as having taken place in CA.

RW was a great musician and also seemed like a cool person all around. I have always enjoyed his music. He contributed a lot to PF. Will never forget the one PF show I attended in Cleveland around 1993.

Nice thread, thanks for posting these videos. I really like this video, mainly because it is long and has some substance to it, similar to the BBC Stones in Morocco video that is also on YouTube.

I think golf is generally cheaper in the US than in Europe. Another reason is the exchange rate (booking hotels, restaurants, advertisements, etc.)
