I recently heard a bootleg CD called "Bright Lights, Big City" which included a true stereo version of "The Singer Not The Song". I have been a Stones fan and collector since 1965 and never knew of the existence of this stereo track. Does anyone know if it was sourced from an official LP or CD? And if not, does anyone know where it came from?

Maybe it's just a freaky looking image that startles/amuses the viewer...something submitted by an artist that was approved by the Stones for the same reason-they thought it freaky/amusing/funny. Sometimes we may have a tendency to read too much into things like this. The flip side of the album insert is just a bunch of wavy lines, something of an optical illusion. Was this chosen for some

When the Stones performed on Ed Sullivan's show in 1969, Mick sang live to pre-recorded instrumental tracks, all identical (and shortened) to the released versions. His vocals were mixed low, just in case he decided to sing something naughty. Girls screams were also mixed into this audio. I've just watched Amazon's promo video for the DVD release and on "Gimme Shelter"

some thoughts... which "Claudine", the slow or the fast one? and as much as we discuss the merits of these selections, bear in mind that someone chose them for their individual merits as well as how they sound together, sequenced on a CD. The Stones have always put together records using a bit from these sessions and a bit from those sessions. In Jagger's mind, these may

I was happy to see the 3 non-LP tracks (Everything Is Turning To Gold, Dance Pt. 2, and the live version of When The Whip Comes Down) but the rest of the stuff seems just a grab bag of tracks that lack any cohesion-the remainder of tracks were NOT all hit singles, nor were they a true "best of" sampling of the previous 3 releases as was the case with Made In The Shade (Mannish Boy? grea

lukpac writes - While (IIRC) all of the studio tracks on the US OOOH were recorded at RCA and Chess, The Last Time, Satisfaction and Play With Fire are the only tracks that are known to have existing stereo mixes. While the rest of the tracks could be remixed to stereo in theory, 1) that's a step above and beyond simply remastering, and 2) it isn't clear if all of the multitracks exist

I was walking around backstage at the New Barbarians show in Milwaukee, Wisconisn, in 1979. The area was relaxed and uncrowded. Keith was leaning up against a wall, having a smoke as I walked by and I thought, "Damn, that guy is short!"

Quotehbwriter i'm late to the dance i'm sure with this one - but the maysles grabbed the "we leave you to kiss each other goodbye" bite from altamont and cut it into the garden footage? For me, time is not kind to that movie - they took so many out of context liberties to create their own drama that it really doesn't hold up for me anymore - the live footage is killer - t

QuoteErik_Snow Quote71Tele This one is without the face paint, and in black & white. Sounds like a rougher mix of the studio version. Have they ever played it live with the intro like on the record since then, or have they always started with the main riff? Yes that's a great promo video.....Jagger's looking quite high - or stoned or something. They did it live with the "

The original lyrics 'hear him whip the women' were still be used intermittently on the 72 tour. They were sung at the Chicago show, as heard on a bootleg. I believe it was Jim Dickinson who said he had to remind Jagger to sing those words during the original recording, as Mick often forgot them. Perhaps it is just sloppy/forgetful singing on Jagger's part. I doubt the lyrics wer

a couple things I noticed while listening to the samples: 1) Satisfaction is not listed as one of the stereo tracks on Big Hits, although the sample IS in stereo (albeit the newer, remixed version with the guitar centered) 2) Jumping Jack Flash, on Through The Past, Darkly, is listed as having a playing time of 3:42, which is longer than previously released versions.

Thanks for the responses. I noticed that there are a lot of fan-created stereo mixes/outfakes of Beatles material (e.g. stereo matrices of mono Nagra reels from the "Let It Be' sessions. Also things like a blend of 2 different mixes of the same song with different lead guitars-the Let It Be single/LP mix for example) There doesn't seem to be much Stones stuff like this. My cu

Does anyone know what software might allow for an easy synchronisation of 2 sources of the same performance to create a 'stereo' matrix. I have Audacity, which allows for multitrack mixing, and it allows for speed and pitch correction, but this has to be done by guess work and is not always successful. Is there a program which can sample both sources and establish an exact sync?
