For those who have heard it, what do you think of the new, 2023 stereo-mix of Love Me Do, included as a 'B-side'? Yes, it does, to my ears, sounds a little odd, with McCartney's bass pushed to the front of the mix, and the guitars buried a little, but I do quite like how the vocals are centred. As there is no original stereo-mix in existence, I suppose one could argue that Giles Ma

I reckon he has used his time well monetising the LZ legacy (pretty much like ABBA's Benny Andersson), pursuing his charity activities and enjoying quality time with his young wife. I sense no bitterness or regrets in recent interviews he has give

QuoteDandelionPowderman Fun project, but a mediocre song, imo. Good to hear Lennon's voice, though. Paul should have skipped the backing vocals. Yes, I'm in agreement, unfortunately. I had a listen to Lennon's original demo, and that feels more interesting. This new reimagining of Lennon's song, feels like a bit of a dirge. Very downbeat.

Quotestonesstein Is there even a chart these days considered to be "the" chart like Billboard was when records were king? Well, Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 are still 'THE' charts for singles and albums respectively in the U.S.A., aren't they? Yes, there's all these 'Bubbling Under' and various others, but they are the main, industry-recognised ch

QuoteKoen Does she still make albums and play concerts? She's quite reclusive and inactive, generally, so who knows? I don't suspect she's retired. I don't think Kate Bush has ever enjoyed touring. Aside from a number of shows in 2014, she hasn't performed much since 1979.

Quotetreaclefingers Thinking about this today...if you took off two of the best songs, let's say the last two, SSoH and RsB what would you rate the album? Still a great album right? 4 stars maybe, 4.5? So how do you rate it with SSoH and RsB which are monuments on their own? It's a hot album. I'm giving Hackney Diamonds are respectable 3.5 stars. It's not quite a 4

I haven’t contributed very much to the Hackney Diamonds discussion, as I don’t believe I have anything particularly unique to say. I will refrain from offering a full-on review, here, but would like to say that I do think Hackney Diamonds is a relatively strong release. It does seem to me that it’s Andrew Watt’s production, and the overall sound, that the detractors have issue with. I say this be

QuoteKoen Are charts really still a thing? Well, they are still in existence. So, yes. Just because streaming is the main format, it doesn’t make the chart any less relevant.

QuoteBashlets And I bet actual physical sales the stones hit number 1 in USA. It’s the streaming that kept them off number 1. Oh, that's without doubt. I wouldn't imagine that many of, say, Drake's album-sales are through physical purchases, for example. He's for the 'streaming generation', certainly.

Quotelaertisflash It seems like the sales are really strong, globaly. Look at the whole picture, that's matters... Honestly, I can't undestand the complaints about #3 on US chart. If I count correctly, in the entire Stones history we only have 9 studio albums reaching #1 there and the last one was "Tattoo You". On the other hand, "Tattoo You", "Some Girls&quo

I find Andrew Watt’s production to be popish and contemporary; most recordings are layered with a sort-of pop-sheen, to my ears, anyway. However, I don’t think Hackney Diamonds is a pop-record, per se. There are elements of pop, perhaps; just like there’s disco, country, blues, and rock. It’s an eclectic mix of styles and genres; just with a poppy, modern production. There’s nothing wrong with th

QuoteTopi 4 new songs out of 7. Was the Some Girls tour the last time any crowd got that kind of ratio? Yes, it would've been. However, this was just a little promotional work for Hackney Diamonds, of course. If they tour behind this record, I doubt the ratio would compare with the 1978 tour. The Stones' set-list model hasn't changed much since the Steel Wheels tour. Remember:

My first impression wasn’t positive: sounds like a Never Mind the Bollocks outtake. However, I do like Paul’s fuzz-bass, and Ronnie’s lead-work that follows. Mick’s ‘mimicking’ Paul introduction is amusing. A pretty OK track.
