I thoroughly enjoyed this programme. Very informative about the life of a "sidey", as Earl Slick referred to the various sidemen and women featured. Bernard came accross very well. He seems like a genuine guy and is clearly loved and respected by The Stones. All of our guys had great things to say about "Brother B", as Keef calls him. There's no danger The Stones w

Quotestone4ever I know its not the Stones at their best musically but Still Life gave me more pleasure than any album ever. The atmosphere of it more than makes up for any weaknesses in the guitar or vocal department. The video release Lets Spend The Night Together was just incredible for me at the time, i kept renting it out from the video store, i just couldn't get enough of seeing the

Edinburgh Playhouse 82 was my first Stones gig, and also the smallest venue I have seen them in. Over the years, another 19 gigs have followed, from Miami to Berlin but nothing can compete with the sheer excitement of seeing them in my hometown at the age of 17. Tickets were very cheap - £6 if I recall correctly. I got one for the balcony from a tout in advance, and then just prior to the sh

Hate to go against the grain, and fly in the face of all the glowing reviews but I was at the Glasgow show, and was not quite so impressed. The show started brilliantly with Neil in fine voice, however I felt it lost momentum towards the end, and that he was very self-indulgent. I was expecting a few long guitar solos but there was just too much pointless noodling for my tastes and not enough ac

Quotestanlove Quotecamper88 Quotestanlove I thought that past 1971 Ali was a very boring fighters except for the Foreman fight. His fights were so full of non fighting and game playing. I didn't enjoy his fights at all when he got older. Not sure how you can exclude his Frazier fights (II and Thrilla in Manila). If you include them and the Foreman fight (as you do), you could say he was

Well I hope we're not too messianic or a trifle too satanic. She was common, flirty, she looked about thirty. I heard you got a friend and she's wilder than you, why don't you bring her upstairs? If she's so wild, she can join in too. Oh when you call my name, I salivate like a Pavlog dog.

I had the pleasure of seeing Rory Gallagher live in Edinburgh way back when I was a lad, and it was a fantastic experience. Raw, noisy rock n roll with Rory doing a Berry-style duck-walk on stage with his trademark check shirt. An accoustic interlude with a great version of "Out on the Western Plain", and a very noisy, enthusiastic Scottish crowd. Listening to some of Rory's li

I'm from Edinburgh so will always be bias, however Glasgow too is a great city with a buzz and vibrancy about it. The people are a bit more extrovert than Edinburghers ("You'll have more fun at a Glasgow funeral than an Edinburgh wedding" said Billy Connolly). Having a quiet beer in Glasgow - it is more likely that someone will engage you in conversation - whether you want to

Quoteteleblaster QuoteHonkyTonkJan To answer Duke Richardson's query, The Rightful Laird of Pittenweem is what Stu used to refer to himself as, according to Keef in "Life". "Laird" is just the Scottish way of saying "Lord". Not quite. "The term ‘laird’ has generally been applied to the owner of an estate, sometimes by the owner himself or, more com

Thanks for all the suggestions, especially "Who's Driving..." - I'd totally forgotten that one. And I learned something new too - I didn't know that was Stu on "Rock n Roll". Listening to it now, it seems obvious. When you look at the early photos, you can see why it was thought that his image didn't fit in with the others. They are all skinny with lo

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I wonder if I could have a few suggestions for Stu's finest recorded moments with the band. I work as a tour guide in Scotland, driving a minibus and giving commentary on the places we visit to tourists from all over the world. I also select music to play on the tours, which has to be Scottish or have a Scottish connection (sometimes a fa

Would just like to mention that Glasgow was the first city in the world to grant Mandela the freedom of the city, whilst he was still in prison. Edinburgh and Aberdeen followed suit later. The Glasgow city council also renamed the street that housed the South African Embassy. It had previously been called St George's Place, and they renamed it Nelson Mandela Place. Must have p\ssed them
