Quotedcba QuoteRockman Unfortunately, nothing is on a par with his work with the Stones Yeah that pretty well sums it up ... Imo that is the problem all the band’s sidemen face : Nicky or Bobby Keys were there during the bands golden age, they added beautiful things to Mick and Keith’s songs. But if you listen to their solo albums made during the same golden era (the early mid-70s), well t

Unfortunately, nothing is on a par with his work with the Stones.I don’t think his playing suited Dylan at all. I do love his CYHMK at Glastonbury. There are also some excellent Midnight Ramblers from 2013-2014.But I’m satisfied with his work while a member of the Stones, which for me has never been topped by the band or anyother band

There is no percussion on this album of the kind employed on Sympathy.Brian was by 1967 already introduced the band to the Pipes of Pan .None of the bands you signify were into that. Sing This Alltogether contains Brian playing percussion which you can hear influenced Sympathy

Quote24FPS It's always good to have perspective when it comes to Brian. Yes, he had some genius moments. The recorder on Ruby Tuesday was ethereal and made the song. Like on No Expectations. He could be very spiritual in parts, like his Pisces pal, George Harrison. There are few that play like that. Communicating deeply without words. But he was either lazy or just wouldn't leave the se

It would have been funny if all the Stones on the 1975 tour and Billy got marine style crew cuts like Charlie.

QuoteMathijs Quotefilstan I thought then, and still think they should have given Ronnie a turn at the mike to do a number from his 2 solo albums, but hey it's 48 years later and this still hasn't happened. Well, they sort of did that in Kansas and Milwaukee -he sang Sure The One You Need with Keith instead of Happy. I agree though, it would have been fantastic is the Stones would

Billy was the only keyboardist who on stage did more than just play the keyboards.Whereas Nicky Hopkins just played the piano, ( brilliantly), Billy sang background vocals like on You Gotta Move and Ain’t too Proud to Beg.He sort of did a little of what Bernard Fowler did later

QuoteStoneage I remember when Clapton had a guest spot in 1989. No one can deny it was sheer brilliance on "Rooster". He was probably too good though because it became obvious what the Stones don't have in their guitar section (solo brilliance). So I guess the three guitarists concept was dead from the beginning anyhow (not in recording though).I think that Keith and Ron were sti

Maybe because the1975 set was so long that Mick needed a breather and because Billy was a pretty big star in his own right.Didn’t the whole band minus Mick back him up on one of the 2songs.

Wood was a great addition. But to say he revitalized the band, I disagree. It was only a year earlier that they had come off maybe their greatest live shows The albums GHS and IORR may not have been as great as Exile, but were still big sellers and in retrospect are excellent.I once read a quote from Wyman that Taylor had spoken to him about rejoining. In 1977 it’s common knowledge Mick reached out

Quotedcba Quoteslew I like GHS a lot and IORR is good but Taylor's frustration, Keith getting elegantly wasted and he and Mick not writing together much any longer was taking a toll on the creativity. I really thin the band needed a change. Everything happens for a reason. Yup and imho the main, and now unmentionable, reason why MT left was he wrongly thought the band was spent, and it

QuoteHalfNanker what's great about it is that they weren't "icons" yet, so their comments are down to earth and fun; not yet so guarded or scripted. And also they still were willing to admit that Mick taylor and Brian Jones were in the band! None of the modern day airbrushing that has gone on.The Stones were icons from at least 1972.The 1972 tour was THE event of the 1972
