Quoteschillid Moonlight Mile It's not that sinister (rather beautiful and dream-like) and to me it ends on an optimistic tone, unlike GS or Morphine.

QuoteSwayed1967 extremely unambitious lyrics Well it's a love letter to Patti. The "I hope you find it funny That I've got no money" line is very revealing : he tells her he spent 10 years in a drug limbo, he did not manage his business well (unlike Mick) so he's "poor" (that is a poor rockstar). Fortunately, later in the decade, some lad named Michael Co

Morphine obviously! The cold acoustic guitar sound (how can you make an acoustic guitar sound cold?). Nicky's piano which is EQed to sound metallic and sinister and it does. Cooder's slide that sounds like slipping into death... we have a true gloomy masterpiece here!

Quotetreaclefingers you have no actual idea what you're talking about, as does everyone on this thread Speer in action : -Dora_concentration_camp "By late 1943, production had started. On 10 December, Albert Speer and his staff visited the tunnels, observing the terrible conditions and finding them littered with corpses. Some members of Speer's staff were so shocked that they

Quotegeorgie48 He was not a nazi, neither was Leni. She was a tool used by the nazis, just like my dad. I think your Dad was caught up in the terrible whirlwind of History but Leni knew perfectly what she was doing = she was a pure Nazi. But much like Albert Speer, she never wore a military uniform, never carried a weapon, and therefore she was more or less let go free after 1945. Me I wo

QuoteNashvilleBlues Pearl Jam is definitely on the level of Green Day and Foo Fighters. Yeah but Europe has a tradition of General Admission : I happened to see the Stones front row twice without coughing out the big buck. I just had to show up early and head for the rail.

Very strange... the band waited for Franco to croak to officially play in Spain yet Mick flirted with this pos. Maybe we can blame that on the trend of the times "nazi chic" which produced works by Guy Peellaert (the famous "Stones in SS uniforms" painting) or the shocker movie "The Night Porter". Anyway it's not Mick's finest hour.

QuoteStoneage I think it's partly an American phenomena. A large part of the Taylor Swift audience here in Sweden (Stockholm, 3 concerts, 150 000 audience in total) were flown in Americans. Apparently it was cheaper for them to fly to Europe and stay a couple of days at a hotel than the single ticket cost in the US... Same goes for the numerous (6?) French gigs. Lots of US fans. And they

QuoteRisingStone Who can prove the true value of an event? Tapes? The Bush one always left me cold. Mundane setlist, worthless one-off songs (Melody? Moon Is Up? Yawn!); And overall I don't think much of the Euro'99 "tour" : the gigs were bland, as if after discovering playing arenas and the genuine excitement it gave them, the band were back to the letdown experience of

Quotegotdablouse Quotedcba a bunch of almost-made-the-final-tracklist outtakes I don't remember reading about tracks that were discarded at the last minute, either in articles or interviews ? You're right. I should have written "strong contenders for the final tracklist imo". When the Brew/Stew boxes came out, I kept thinking they chose the wrong tracks.

QuoteMathijs This is a true blow. Shocking, shocking news. Universally loved by all who had interaction with him on any level. Mathijs I hope that one way or another he got to hear the unreleased part of the FFSO leak before his passing. And I remember we owe him - among other things - the liberation of the SW outtakes/rough mixes a few years ago. And didn't he post the rumoured

Terrible news! Some people come here stay a while then they go. Gazza was a true pillar of the site. Like most of you I never met the guy but I always read his comments with pleasure. I still remember that in 2012 he berated French fans for not doing their "job", that is sniffing around and finding the venue in Paris where a clubgig would happen. Most of us doubted Gazza's c

QuoteGasLightStreet And, of course, Keith and Ronnie recording backing vocals for You Got It Made is absolutely brilliant. "It's a tall order for two queers... bwa ha ha ha!" You get a glimpse of the Keith/Ron alchemy : Keith plays the patient master and Ron plays the dumb obedient pupil (and I'll add : dumb he is not). Does anyone remember "Possesses Me", a ty

QuoteTaylor1 Writers like Capote and Southern were following the tour .Celebrities crammed their concerts.LED Zeppelin was not even in the picture Yeah didn't LZ have a "rock low-brows" reputation (thanks to Bonham and Grant?) while Cavett would interview Bill Wyman on his show...? I'd put the album songs sung by Keef (always cool stuff) plus a bunch of almost-made-the-final-tracklist outtakes ("You Got It Made" comes to mind) and I'd finish the comp with some cool acoustic stuff (material from "Residue" or disc II of Brew : "Cocaine Blues" or "Make No Mistake"). Voila!

Live, the song (and its ad-lib end) allowed them to go "free form" and let the swing out. It's very notable on the (aud) tape of the end of the 94 tour : the fun was palpable. It's really one of these songs - much like OOC in 97/98 - that was meant to grow, expand and be explored/pushed to its limits live.

QuoteKurt What, do you think that all of his kids pay their own taxes??? So true and you raise an interesting point : Mick certainly does give a plump "advance on heritage" yearly allowance to each of his kids. So that money must be taxed according to U.S. laws, that is, what, 25%? Anyway the big news is, as Nils noticed, Mick has plans for 2025 and 2026?

QuoteProfessorWolf every which way but loose Part of Clint's attempt to destroy his uber-man macho image he gained after "Dirty Harry". Playing with a orangoutan... Quotedaspyknows Selling recordings and making money off of it is just not cool. What about the Crystal Cat label? Brooce fans would kiss his feet if they met the label's boss, and thanks to this guy we had a bunch of excellent Stones recordings. His 2003 Cirkus cd is a must... till the band releases a DVD of that gig.
