I know it is a current day highlight but I have never been wild about the live Gimme Shelter with the featured female vocals. It makes a very deep song come off like a Vegas show tune in my opinion. Just my opinion. I think the band could do a very nice 4 minute version with the iconic intro and outro and skip the female featured part.

One thing that always stuck with me from the movie "Gimme Shelter" was how centered and caring Charlie was. He came across as a very thoughtful person. It is really rough without him in the band for me.

Talented but very troubled person. Chris Hillman's books shed a bit of light on him. How he described young David in the Byrds era sounded like undiagnosed mental illness, which back then wasn't even remotely considered a big deal.

Comparing F1 to NASCAR is the same as comparing football(soccer) to football. I like both and consider the series extreme examples of apples and oranges.

>I was told of the existence of an Auburn soundboard in the early 1980s by Tom Beech .At the time,Tom owned a record store in Maryland ,and was a respected, and well connected collector, dealer. He did not have the board, and had never heard it.I also have a fairly strong recollection of having read about it,either before or after talking to Tom,in a Stones fan publication. However,I spent the mor

Yeah, I gotta believe there is a tape somewhere in a box that no one knows about. Probably will never see the light of day. It was pre internet when I met this tape guy and didnt really know that Auburn was rare. He was an older guy and I suspect is long gone. He would have made the rounds in the Midwest. He was probably 60 longer grey hair, LOTS of cassettes in case someone here was a tape colle

It is sad and stunning how the hall has shunned the pop/rock bands that brought rock and roll to the masses on TV in the mid 60's. Without Hermans Hermits, Monkees, Paul Revere/Raiders, Gerry and the Pacemakers and others, who know what rock would have looked like. Like it or not these groups and other artists brought "rock and roll" to the masses. My belief in most of these n

I like to ask every couple of years. I believe there is a tape of the show. I was at a Record show at Serb hall in Milwaukee in the early 80's and a tape guy claimed to have a rare tape (Auburn 69). I was too young and dumb to really follow up and ask the right questions, and left as I wasnt really into tapes. Just checking to see if anyone has heard of a cassette (I assume) circulating

Quotemattleeuk Quotetimmyj3 I received your book for Xmas and love it. Have you ever thought of doing a price guide for Stones memorabilia and records? Glad you love the book... I have indeed thought about a price guide, in fact the publisher wanted to call the book Priceless! However I wanted to avoid prices as they can be as misleading as they are helpful. The market has moved significan

My opinion is that U2 stole the show. They planted their flag as one of the all time great bands. I think the Stones could have been a tour de force if they would have been on stage as the Stones. I also heard that that jackoff Geldof blew off The Kinks who were interested in perfroming. Could be BS but have read it a few different time.

I bought this album in the import section at Peaches Records in Milwaukee, WI in about 1976 thinking as well it was a live LP from the movie or 69 tour. Ugh. Was a nice sounding LP as I remember.

Yeah, I listened to Wembley 82 in the other day and Wyman is blowing folks away with that base line. I know things always change but he was a way bigger part of their success than some seem to acknowledge. He was/is a force.

Quoteryanpow The sound mix on LYL is excellent. They had a lot going on around that time sound wise with Billy and Ollie in the band and it brings it all together in way that 75 boots do not (IMHO), and creates a distinct atmosphere and feeling. I just never like the sound/mix of Love you Live. It never felt like a live LP to me. When it came out I was disappointed. I always prefered my 75

Here is how clueless I am. Never heard of Damon Albarn in my life. I thought Taylor Swift was an actress until about a year ago when I saw her in a commercial and my wife clued me in. I live well, and dont need to know who folks are. God save The Kinks and The Rolling Stones.

Just pulled the trigger on the Ron Wood artwork of the 1975 flat bed Brown Sugar tour announcement. I am so excited. they had 25% off to get it in my budget. I figure $250 for framing. I cant wait to receive it. Just excited here.

I just looked at the book again page 91. Seems like it was about a flight and Roger commented they were 7 miles high but that wouldn't be a good song title, hence the 8 mile high.

This discussion had me take a look at their discography and its sterling by any judgement. Looks like only a handful of their LPs are RIAA certified Gold. Sad and disgusting. Any Kinks fans here really really love "top of the Pops" live from Everybody's in Showbiz? It was like grunge and a 69 live stones song thrown in a blender. Magnificent.
