I found this quote by Jagger that is quite self explanatory “I didn’t particularly want it out,” Jagger said about Circus. “I don’t particularly like it. But see, he and London and Decca have the rights to repackage all our old material between 1963 and 1969.” C

QuoteSpud QuoteNashvilleBlues QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteSpud I'll stick with their first two albums I think. I haven't been too enamoured of anything they've done since...either collectively or individually. You better check out Before The Frost. Yes! I'll give that a go then. Frost is a must, but also Amorica and Snakes are extremely good albums. A

QuoteJMoisica There is a Stones needle drop in Wim Wenders new film, Perfect Days, which has got to be in the running for the deepest Stones cut in a film, rivaled only by Scorsese using the Stripped version of Gimme Shelter in Casino, and Keith’s cover of the Nearness of You in Basquiat (which I think takes the #1 slot). Of course Wes Anderson has used some great deep cuts (She Smiled Sweetly,

As far as I know, influenced by the great american black popular music, in the 50s and early 60s a new exciting music scene started in many countries in Africa. I assume it all started from there. C

DP and Spud, sure you have an argument there, yet Fingers and Exile, as I see them, somehow develop what was already there in Banquet and Bleed, they don't really add anything new. So, yes, if I lost all my post 60s albums, I would miss Fingers and Exile, but still I could survive. On the other hand, the big pop hits of 65/67 that literally "made" the stones huge, Paint it Black

QuoteSpud Right then, here's a difficult question. If you could only listen to albums from the 60s or albums from the 70's ? No matter how much I love Ronnie's contribution, 60s without a doubt. The singles from Come On to Honky Tonk is all that I need to live happy for the rest of my life! C

QuoteDoxa But what goes for the three guitar concept, Keith also seemed to be initially thrilled about the idea, but afterwards came to the conclusion that it does not work. I take the latter mean that the arrangements, including the guitar parts and roles, of modern Stones shows are so carved in stone after so many tours that it asks too much for the old men to think about changing them. - Do

Bad Stones' album is an oxymoron. Sure, its a fact that Dirty Work is no Exile, but when I stop comparing Dirty Work to the Stones' big ones and I put it in the context of the music released in 1986 - well, quality wise, I say it was a great release. It was the Stones, and the Stones are always something else. Not necessarily better, but something else definitely yes. Same with H

Could be Kid Creole and the Coconuts but I really can't remember! The oldest ticket I have is for Prince in 1987. Sign of the times tour, to this day one of the best shows I've ever seen. But I'm quite sure it was not the first. C

QuoteLeonidP And I'd remove Connection, Keith is just background on that one. I know he did it live w/ Winos, but I don't think he ever did it w/ the Stones live. He sang it at least twice with the stones: it's on the Shine a Light movie! C

QuoteSighunt Quoteliddas Never understood why people consider the 89/90 tour to be a sort of recreation of the studio versions. Only because Devil returns to be a piano driven song? Very simply it was Jagger's 88 solo show template adapted to the stones. It is easier to find cross-party consensus in the Italian parliament than in a group of Stones' fans. There is a reason for this. Music fans in general don't like changes, and the Stones changed continuously along their whole career, following different trends, replacing key members, compromising between opposites, including in the mix new instruments, technologies etc. As a

QuoteMonkeyMan2000 And in Angry it's especially noticable, and IMO badly done, as we all know how Mick actually sounds. His voice is still so powerful and probably more "in tune" than ever, as can be heard on the less processed vocals on Get Close and alike. I think it was supposed to be as it is. It is not a fix. The artistic decision is to have a contrast between the "mode

QuoteSpud We around here are never going to like the idea of the Stones sound being sanitised to please the casual listener... But I suppose needs must...and a successful album may arguably justify it ? I wonder why so many music fans - and not only Stones' fans - have this idea. As I see it, to "please the casual listener" is exactly what pop music is all about! Or, f

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteSpud Digital audio today is potentially great.. The problem is that the industry has not settled on a universal format or on any accepted standards for true High Fidelity reproduction. It could be better than records... ...but it isn't because the industry is only interested in catering for the mass low and mid-fi markets, where brick wall compression
