Quotepadre69 I’ve always wondered this. What was the occasion behind Keith’s honeymoon session? Yes, I know, wedding. I just got the 2cd set. Who else attended this, there seems to be more than Keith and Patti in the room. And why would one record your honeymoon strummings? And what, 51 songs? ”Listen to me, dear Patti, when I sing you these 51 songs, I just plug in my electric guitar and put

Quotekeefgotsoul Good stuff Mathijs. If you had to guess which Exile song or songs Keith played the Flying V on, do you have an idea? I think that's quite impossible to hear, really. A Telecaster through an Ampeg amp is quite distinguishable (Casino Boogie, Happy, Turd on the Run, All Down The Line, Soul Survivor etc), Taylor's use of the vari-tone on the ES-355 can be heard quite wel

Quotedanicarton That Flying V ruined the Hyde Park Concert being out of tune for most part of the show...Can someone please set fire to it? That really had a lot more to do with the tuning capabilities of Keith: he was out of tune for most of the 1969 tour. Mathijs

Brian's Gibson Firebird VII In several threats there were discussions about the whereabouts of Brian’s Reverse Firebird VII that he used in 1965 and 1966. The guitar -a 1963 model- is or was owned by British guitarist and collector Neil Flemming, he also owned Keith’s Flying V. The guitar was sold by Mick Taylor in the mid-1980’s to Neil Flemming through mutual friend Phil Harris, who

QuoteHis Majesty QuoteMathijs The Firebird now has a refinished body, all else original. Patterns of the inlays and grain of the wood match with Brian's guitar. Mathijs Believe it when I see it, but I won't see it. Who refinishes a guitar with such a connection? You previously said the wood grain wasn't visible because of the refinish. I asked how do they know it's Br

QuoteHis Majesty QuoteMathijs So Brian smashed a guitar in 1969 that he gave away in late 1965, and after being played throughout the 1970's ended up with full provenance with an UK collector? Wow man. Brian played both his reverse and non reverse Gibson Firebird VII guitars during the summer 1966 US tour. The Rolling Stones still have the non reverse VII. The reverse VII used in 196

Quoteslewan An answer to the question why the Rolling Stones don't do it they was Sony does might simply be that they don't have enough or good enough stuff left in their vaults that might appeal to wider audience. It's anybody's guess, but I'd say it's a fair estimation that all outtakes leaked combine about 20% of what they actually have available. Also, they r

QuoteGasLightStreet QuoteKeVvV2011 QuoteGasLightStreet That's been a consistent piss me off forever. That live version is so much better than what's on GYYYO, the studio version and anything live since - superior Rolling Stones, the ultimate Stones in that particular performance period. Here I was listening to the Racket release thinking JJF was cooking quite nicely, and then you po

Isn't this fake? I mean they took a mono mix and added reverb and delay to it to create a spatial effect. Mathijs

There is something timeless about the song. It's not part of classic Stones, it's not part of the 'new' Stones starting with Some Girls, it really stands on its own. This is amplified by the terrific sound of Black and Blue, probably the best sound they ever achieved. Mathijs

QuoteRocky Dijon I love posts by His Majesty and posts by Mathijs. They both have helped make IORR the best Stones resource online. Can we please get a ceasefire in the hostilities so both can share their knowledge and passion here without forcing us into picking sides? Just to get the record absolutely straight -there have been no hostilities or harassments from me to His Majesty/Phillip Johns

QuoteGJV It's not that I dislike the song, but I remember the frustration at the time was mainly for me that instead of these two new songs, there could have been two extra live songs on the record and I would have much preferred that, after all it was a live record. They could also have added, for example 2000 Light Years, Gimme Shelter, Undercover, or Harlem Shuffle. The added Rock and A

QuoteGasLightStreet How? I Go Wild is guitar driven. Winning Ugly is synth driven. And comoletely different songs. Uh? Winning Ugly is driven by a slap bass, a walking bass, a (great...) guitar riff by Keith, and some ambient synths in the back. It's quite an awful song, but it is not synth driven. Mathijs

I really like Sex Drive. I love the guitars, which are far more intricate than you would think on first listen. Great sound. And as I remember, it was a real hit in the clubs and on MTV in 1991 as I recall. The entire summer of 1990 and 1991 the Stones were huge in The Netherlands, with the tour, Flashpoint, Tour of Duty, IMAX. A time when nobody complained if I proposed to put on the lat
