I did not think so until I heard her sing with Tony Bennet. That gentleman would NEVER come together with anyone who was not an elite-level talent. It has been a very long time since an epic Rolling Stones ballad sent genuine chills down my spine... the kind I got when listening to You Can't Always Get What You Want, or Moonlight Mile, or Shine a Light, or Winter, or Waiting For A Friend, or even Time Waits For No One. I put my headphones on (loud) and listened to the just-released Sweet Sounds Of Heaven... and it gave me those fami

Jagger in 1969 basically changed the equation of Rock Performance. He was incandescent in his Uncle Sam hat and devlish outfit... after the Stones' '69 Tour nothing was ever the same in rock and roll... Jagger owned the stage in a way no rock music performer ever had on the tour and everyone from Iggy to Bowie to T Rex immediately knew that a new era had begun and began to emulate the a

Whew... let's hope not, Rocky! That might be "fitting" on a bootleg greatest hits package of all their most libidinous songs... but NOT for their first album of long-awaited new material presented to the world in nearly 2 decades. I hope they put as much work into the album art and package as they used to in their heyday. As the Olympian Gods of a dying art form - and as dedica

Better yet, a totally new and creatively inspiring cover, design, and overall layout - like the old days of Exile and Some Girls... and a tribute to Charlie integrated into the inner sleeve contents. I assume the entire album will be a tribute to Charlie's indomitable spirit... and I am looking forward to the tracks where he will be heard, and REALLY looking forward to hearing what Jorda

After a decade and a half hungrily snacking on singles - both new (Living in a Ghost Town, Doom and Gloom) and gloriously brought back from the dead (Plundered My Soul, Scarlet) - and dreaming of new music... here they come... post-Charlie but liver than you'll ever be... ... looking so forward to a beggar's banquet of new material from these stout, lascivious old souls... one last

Quoterayrad great (and long) piece here on exile by bob lefsetz: he gets the release date wrong too (though corrected it in his next post) but gets so much else right about what makes EOMS the pinnacle of a career not short on dizzying heights So much to disagree with. So much fun to read, though. Everyone has a different "Exile" experience, and perspective.

QuoteProfessorWolf well if they do nothing else to celebrate the band should book a club date and do the whole album live then release the show like sticky fingers come on mick even the casual fans have to know most the songs on exile you think there gonna walk out if you play turd on the run? I would be terribly insulted.

QuoteThommie Today we (at least I am) are listening to Exile on Main Street in its entirety. Exactly 50 years after the official release date 12 May 1972. No matter if it’s your favorite Stones album or not, it has an exceptional position. No other Stones album is that mythical, periphrastic and surrounded by history, stories and opinions than Exile. Did I say it's my favorite album...?

I will probably miss my first Stones Tour since 1972. I have been to every tour in the last 50 years - including South America. But the cumulative effect of everything all of you gentlemen (and ladies) have mentioned on this thread - insane prices in a dire and precarious economic climate, no fresh new material that they are willing to play on stage, (though through their re-issues they have unea

QuoteKevinM By '89 it was obvious that Mick's voice wasn't what it was compared to even the early 80's (their last tour at the time). Even noticed a difference b/w '89 vs. '94 voice. I saw all those tours (in the US and Europe) and, in my opinion, it was obvious to me that Mick's voice was much better in the 1989 / 1990 tours than in the 1981 / 1982 tours. I

Spectacular photos... really visceral. I saw the Stones several nights in New York that tour (also slept in front of Madison Square Garden the night before in order to get tickets... alas no front row) and I still think, to this day, that they looked like the coolest band in the history of Rock and Roll on that tour. Jet-set outlaws, dripping decadence and danger and pure sex...

I totally agree with you... I also struggle with this album in the sense that it could have been a stone-cold, epochal classic on the level of their many other masterpieces preceding it (and the few classic albums that they recorded following Goats Head Soup). The Stones, in the mid-1970's are a huge puzzlement to me because -- in popular mythology -- they hit a "creative nadir"...

Stunning work. Gorgeous posters. The entire Olé Tour poster lineup was excellent but Arian Buhler's work stands out as extra special. His Sao Paolo and Bogotá posters were as beautiful as his Habana work. Bravo!

Absolutely spectacular work on ALL the tour posters. Some are true highlights, but all are (in their way) beautiful. The Cuba poster is absolutely cool...(even though it looks more like Beverly Hills or Miami Beach). BRAVO!!!

QuoteMadMetaphoricalMax IORR-ers might enjoy reading through this review and appreciation of LA 75 and Hampton 81 on my Huffington Post blog. The music is mighty, mighty fine... Superb commentary. I very much enjoyed it. The comments on the difference in Ronnie from 1975 to 1981 are particularly poignant...his decline was palpable. Keith's crude, brutalist brilliance was (for me) in t

At the eleventh hour, all those in the joint diamond and gold circle queue were told that the three left-hand aisles would be for gold circle only and the fourth right-hand aisle for diamond only. I will arrive with the last flight tonight. Johanniter at 7:30 will probably be too early for me because I have to go to the Hotel (Crown Plaza - next to the stadium) and then back into the center of town. I would like to meet at 9:30 or 10 somewhere for drinks. Is there a set meeting place for IOORers after dinner? A bar? The Altstadt is a large area and there are tons of bars so without
