Sounds great, except that it seems they're going to make Deluxe editions of albums, with bonus tracks. I'd much rather have boxes and "authorised bootlegs" without recycling the official stuff we've had for half a century already.

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 Quoteemotionalbarbecue I cant play guitar and I don´t know anything about them. The only thing I know is that I love how they sounded at the time of iorr recording. How did they get that sound is a mistery for me. But it sounds glory. That's interesting. I love the IORR album, but IMo the outtakes and roughs sound better than final release. It's like the en

By the way, if this site is to be believed, the Stones' biggest sellers are: Hot Rocks (6,9 M) Some Girls (6,3) Forty Licks (5,3) Tattoo You (4,9) Voodoo Lounge (3,8) Let It Bleed (3,6) Sticky Fingers (3,6) Steel Wheels (3,3) GHS (3,2) Jump Back (3,1), and so on. Exile is only at 18th place at 1,5 million, less than Blue And Lonesome and Dirty Work, which I find really hard t

Interesting list. I too, was suprised to see that Thriller's position is so much higher than that of the next on the list. I calculated the average release year on that list: 1989. You can tell that record sales were high in the 1970s to 2000. Many blockbusters like Dark Side of the Moon and Rumours in the 70s, but I realized that many high selling records a bit further down in the lis

Majesty, your isolations of Street Fighting Man are awesome! That drum/percussion sounds incredible. The whole song sounds incredible, and I already knew that for decades, but this reveals new dimensions in it, at least sound and production-wise. Impressive that you managed to sort out the sitar and tanpura separately. It's really the droning tanpura that's most obvious in the origina

Thanks for all your great analyses about Brian's contributions! It's always interesting and great fun to read, still after all these years of Stones listening.

Awesome! Gotta be worth a fortune too, these days! Cool to see the sleeveless tongueshirt that Charlie wore at some shows.

Listening to it on Spotify now. Sounds amazing, definitely a top performance, the whole band sound inspired. I've never cared all that much for Billy Preston's contributions to the Stones, but he sure plays well here. The mixture of new material from '76 together with the oldies and some mid-70s rarities is fantastic, of course. All songs are good, but this has got to be the bes

Yes, I'm quite sure that's the one he used with the Faces. He played it quite a lot during those years '73–76. Did he use it in Australia '73 for the first time?

I've never bothered looking at that Cologne footage because of the low picture quality, but it's pretty cool if you get into it. HTW, for example, sounds really groovy – band in top shape – and Keith uses the Ted Newman Jones there.

QuoteHis Majesty Re acoustic on Sympathy. I include it as it is something we know he played during the sessions, that it was recorded, but ultimately mixed out. It is slightly audible at times like you note. Thanks re the site.. Note it is a work in progress and the information is open to change. It's been a while since I did anything on it. It needs tweaking and updating, but I've

His Majesty: Great site you have, I haven't seen it before, although I've read many of your insights here over the last decade or so. Knowing you here, I believe the info on the site is quite trustworthy and well researched. Interesting to see that you state that Brian plays acoustic guitar on Sympathy for the Devil. I've seen the pics from the '68 sessions where he has

Great to hear the sample! I agree it has too much of an arena sound, but it's okay, still very enjoyable. I guess you'll have to imagine that you're standing in the very back of the club.

Always interesting with more '72 literature. Hope it'll be good! As for who blew who off stage, it's usually a silly and subjective comparison (except in some cases where the "big" band was going downhill and the "small" one was truly special and full of energy, maybe like Sabbath and Van Halen in '78 or so).

Great! The Stones at the height of their 1973 glory. Great shots of Keith, cool to see what guitars he used on what songs (LP Jr on Rocks Off, Ted Newman Jones guitar on Happy, etc.).

I'm kinda surprised that the Some Girls disc gets so much love. It's not bad, but I find it a little boring. The compositions don't stand out much, and the instrumental parts, so to speak, are a little repetitive. I guess I'm too much of a sucker for the '68-73 era, where almost everything sound interesting to me.

QuoteDoxa Quote24FPS I was hooked the moment I heard Bill's taut but rubbery bass encircling the whole thing. It sounded like it belonged to the Exile era. I can see where the end product was a little too much like Tumbling Dice. To me it's the best song of all the bonus cuts. To each his own. I think it is a magical track. Mick does a wonderful work but the true magic - or somethin

Sounds like a fun thing to investigate. As ya'll know, there are several versions of Brown Sugar with different guitar overdubs on the same basic backing track from Muscle Shoals. But I suppose they used the released version as the backing track for TOTP. The Altamont recording of Brown Sugar is also very close to the original; I suppose they had it fresh in mind at that time. By 1972, it

As usual, a quote is blown out of proportion. Sure, it din't sound exactly positive towards the Stones, but he didn't say they were lame or that he dislike them. He used the Stones as an example of – probably – simple rock 'n' roll, which in his view isn't challenging or interesting enough for him to play. From a progressive or jazzy perspective, the Stones and the Who co

Gotta say I'm warming up to this release. I'm an "archivist" by nature and always skeptic of hodge-podge releases without proper historical facts, and newly updated songs that should have been left alone. But on the other hand, it's great to hear listenable songs over unfinished outtakes and I have to say they have done a good job at making these songs sound good. Even th

Just listened to the outtakes disc. As usual with these Stones deluxe versions I'm sort of split between really enjoying them and being annoyed by various things that could have been done better. For starters, this one feels more random than any Stones outtake disc (which says a lot!), with stuff from Some Girls, IORR, Goats and who knows what sessions. Yeah, I know Tattoo You was like th
