Didn’t Keith call TSMR “psychedelic bull*#&!”? The Stones, other than Brian, seemed to mostly keep a distance from the psychedelic scene. Their big attempt to insinuate themselves into it failed miserably at the debacle at Altamont. It would have made more sense for them to have courted the company of the U.K. Blues & R&B-based Rock bands of the latter 60s like Fleetwood Mac,

In 2019, the first Thursday was a “locals” day, with discounted tickets for Louisiana residents, and the Stones were scheduled to perform on the 2nd Thursday. The Stones seem to have crossed stars when it comes to appearing at NOLA Jazzfest. It will be interesting if it happens but I’m not holding my breath.

QuotePhil Good QuoteRisingStone “Robert Plant performed ‘Stairway To Heaven’ solo for the first time” Watched it twice. Horrible. I'm glad now that they did no reunion tour. Strongly disagree. The Celebration Day audio and video recordings are evidence that Page, Plant, Jones, and Jason Bonham had put in the work to rehearse the show. It sounded fantastic. With a state of the art

Bobby Womack opened my first Stones show in 1981. Buddy Guy was fantastic on the Zip Code Tour in Milwaukee. For the most part, the other opening acts I’ve seen have been average (Promise Of The Real) to lamentable.

B.B. King was a force of nature, and a true road warrior, who for years performed close to 300 shows a year. He literally, as he put it, paid the cost to be the boss. No need to sully up a perfectly good thread by comparing him to a pop milquetoast like Don Henley. As far as being the best Blues Vocalist, I’d agree that Bobby Bland is among the best Male Blues Vocalists (a list that fo

I’ll just wait for someone to sell me their used copy at my store, then I’ll give it a spin, and most likely flip it. Don’t really care what color. It used to be that black vinyl was superior audio fidelity to other color variants, but they seem to have solved that problem. Lately though, I have developed an appreciation for any translucent black vinyl pressings from the early 80s to early 90s.

Tonight’s the night. Neil, Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina, Niks Lofgren, and Micah Nelson, billed as The Santa Monica Flyers, are all set to perform tonight and tomorrow night to celebrate the 50th anniversary of when they (minus the late Ben Keith, who’s role will be reprised by Micah Nelson) opened the venue. Neil says they will perform two full albums of songs that date from before the Roxy opene

No wonder his magazine became irrelevant. If I understand his analysis correctly, he’s saying that he can’t come up with any black or female artists with philosophical depth? What a bunch of horsecaca. Jimi Hendrix, Patti Smith, Allen Toussaint, Carlton Ridenhour (aka Chuck D), Gil Scott-Heron, Nina Simone, Laura Nyro, Tina Turner, Tina Weymouth, Polly Styrene, Loretta Lynn, Exene Cervenka

Feels like some of the responses here are prudish and a tad sanctimonious. From my perspective, many women (and men) at the last couple of Stones shows I attended (Lyon and L.A. #1) still like to dress up, look sexy, and draw attention to themselves. Objectify gets tossed around like a condemnation, when it’s just reality, and been going on for as long as humans have walked the earth. FWIW,

Wishing Bruce a speedy and complete recovery. Wonder if Nils Lofgren might now join Neil Young & Crazy Horse on September 20 & 21st at the Roxy in L.A. for the 50th Anniversary of when Neil, Ralph Molina, Billy Talbot, Nils, and Ben Keith (R.I.P.) opened the venue. No offense to Willie Nelson’s son Micah, who was slotted to take Nils’ place, but Nils should be there.

Talking of "dynamite riffs", I wonder what Keith would consider his "dynamite riffs", if any, over the past 40 years to be ?<<<< They may not rank high on the streaming list, but Hand Of Fate and Slave are two of my favorites. Pretty exciting to now be less than 24 hours to the official announcement of an album of new Stones compositions!

They were both participants in The Band’s Last Waltz, so their paths have crossed at least since Thanksgiving Day, 1976. That they are still here sharing a stage, nearly 47 years later, is a wonder. The caravan keeps rolling!

Amazon appears to have an indifferent attitude to selling bootleg material. I see many recordings that Discogs properly identifies as unauthorized and blocks from sellers being able to list, that are blatantly being trafficked plain as day there. eBay similarly lets a lot of bootleg material be listed. It’s surprising that Amazon gets away with it.

As apparent by the brilliantly clever guerrilla marketing sneak announcement of Hackney Diamonds in the Hackney Gazette, the Stones organization (and presumably, Mick Jagger) haven’t lost their touch for gaining maximum publicity for minimum investment. Based on the opening acts they’ve selected for the last several tours, they are still reaching out to the younger demographic. I’d love t

When I saw Joni Mitchell’s triumphant comeback show at The Gorge a couple of months ago, I also got to see Brandi Carlile for the first time, as she played an opening set with her longtime collaborators, twin brothers Phil and Tim Hanseroth, before returning to emcee the festivities and perform with Joni during her set. Brandi and the Hanseroth twins did a great, rocked out version of Fat Botto

The Band did survive into the 80s, just without Robbie. I saw them on November 12, 1983 at Memorial Gymnasium in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Cate Brothers opened, and one of the Cates (Earl?) filled Robbie’s guitar spot. Garth, Levon, Richard, and Rick were all there. Really good show.

She’s decent, but I honestly don’t get all the hype. Big stage production sure, but I’m not hearing it in the music. Then again, I’m not a teen girl. Good for Taylor for getting it while she can though.

As far as musicians, Bob Weir has Mick and most others beat in terms of live performance. He’s younger than Mick (he’ll turn 76 in October), but has been touring with the Grateful Dead and side projects for 60 years now. A Rock ‘n’ Roll road warrior.

If so, we may see a Stones set, but with no time for rehearsals, an all-star birthday jam sounds fun. Hope we see some photos of the festivities.
