The main thing is that they have finally released a new album. That's good enough. Ranking it I would compare it to albums in their latter day production.
In line with that. Still, it's a good thing that they got this one together. The Rolling Stones' core production ended with TY. But that is another story. Forum: Tell Me
Shattered, Tumbling Dice and, maybe, Sweet Sound of Heaven are the listenable songs on the live CD. The others, except JJ Flash, are simply unlistenable fake recordings.
Simple as that. No need to defend or overanalyze that. Forum: Tell Me
Basically, albums don't matter to them since they are mainly a touring act since decades. They have a big back catalogue so they don't need new hits to sell out tours.
And the big money is in tours these days. No wonder, considering the ticket prices... Forum: Tell Me
...It was the Steel Wheels press conference...
Ps Keith defends his band no matter what. So I wouldn't draw any conclusions from that other than that he is very protective about the band. Ds Forum: Tell Me
So, the logic is: If you don't like it you're allowed to state it once, maybe a couple of times, but if you like it there is no such limit? I get it if people tend to be repetitive though... Forum: Tell Me
So, a junkie song? Seems like Keith is imitating Lou's way of talking rather than actually singing. Suits him well. The song is a bit one dimensional, more of a groove rather
- if you listen 30 seconds you have heard the whole song. Nothing wrong with that though. Forum: Tell Me
It's the rule of market economy - in the end the price will be what the consumer is ready to pay - supply and demand. And the dinosaur acts are in a favorable position here.
People save money for the dinosaur and then spend less on smaller acts. Forum: Tell Me
Firstly, it was a good thing that they finally released a new album. Much better than another tour or re-release. It was the best thing that could happen. A breath of fresh air.
Secondly, I think there is a pattern of hyperbole for a long time when a new album is released. This was the case even for "Super Heavy". The negative criticism usually comes later on. Forum: Tell Me
I remember Sway. She was a French girl who used to post in the Cars thread. I wonder if she's still here? I don't remember her full poster name... Forum: Tell Me
Come on, I think the ceiling height should be at least 2,40m on this forum. Not 1,80. GSL can be a bit hot-tempered sometimes but he's not wrong here. This forum is not a church. Forum: Tell Me
As I understand Keith is an American citizen and Ronnie an Irish citizen. Sir Michael, due to tax reasons, is a citizen of nowhere. Is the Grammy's an American price award or is it open to the world?
It's a bit odd that they are nominated for the Brit Awards since none of them are British. But I guess that how it works in this new brave world. Forum: Tell Me

so in other words...It's all b*llocks.
Sure, in a way it is in another not so much. People like parties and people like to get recognized. Nothing wrong in that.
And it's an opportunity to meet people in the industry. It's like your ordinary office party at work but maybe on a larger scale... Forum: Tell Me
Not PC now but no one cared about that in the 70s - except for Reverend Jesse Jackson. I guess the title Some Girls is a euphemism for groupies. Forum: Tell Me
Basically these award shows are an excuse to throw big parties for the industry. The prizes are commercial vehicles. And a great opportunity to meet people in the industry.
Furthermore, for the women, a great opportunity to dress up. In a way these ceremonies are also fashion awards. Think the Oscars...

But in fact their equipment was hooked up and they did perform live, (probably one of the smallest venues they ever played at) and it was video taped (I have a copy of that). Mick seemed quite drunk (IMHO). One song they did perform live was Jimmy Reed's "Baby, You Don't Have To Go". This was in July 1981
Which other songs did they perform on that location? Forum: Tell Me
Why is this important at all? Ronnie would be the only Stone available for the ceremony. In the old days the band didn't care about or attend award ceremonies.
Imagine they win: Will we see Sir Michael on Teams from south of France thanking the jury? Or what? Forum: Tell Me

Jagger solo material, really. I can't take the lyrics seriously. A polygamist singing about fidelity? In all the Jagger songs he's always complaining about all the women leaving him and treating him badly.
Really? I'm supposed to believe that?
Actually, it wasn't. Mick had a ballad he wanted on the album, but Keith and Watt didn't Forum: Tell Me

I remember when Clapton had a guest spot in 1989. No one can deny it was sheer brilliance on "Rooster". He was probably too good though because it became obvious
what the Stones don't have in their guitar section (solo brilliance). So I guess the three guitarists concept was dead from the beginning anyhow (not in recording though). Forum: Tell Me

If you follow the standard setlists the last decades you will see that new material is included in the first set of the show, usually between song 3 and 8. After that it's the usual suspects.
Usually they include 2 new songs which sometimes ends in 1 song before the tour is over. My guess is that the 2* new songs will be upbeat songs since that is the pattern of t Forum: Tell Me
Another thing with SSOH is that it's a ballad (soul) which means that they have to move either Gimme Shelter, Miss You or YCAGWYW to make space for it. Which calls for a decision to be made... Forum: Tell Me

I think the difference is that Taylor is expected to shine on solo parts when Wood is not. So Taylor is judged harder than both Wood and Richards. And I don't think Taylor is as sharp as he used to be.
In the end it's all about what you add to the mix. On the other hand, the premises weren't that good to begin with as Wyman told us. He wasn't allowed to chose songs or even a Forum: Tell Me
Taylor and Wyman got involved solely due to the 50th anniversary- not because of anything else. Wyman didn't bother touring with them for one or two songs and was openly disappointed by the arrangement. Forum: Tell Me
