OMG, i had boxes of cassettes. They were my Napster of the day, I would record everything I could from friends and they would do the same w/ my albums. But yeah, way too many would break down, hissing, or the tape would tangle through and get stuck in the player, etc. I got rid of most of mine when I went to mp3s. I saved about 30 or 40, but I don't listen to them anymore.
