Its ok. I go through long (multi-year) periods where I don't listen to any Beatles- its so ingrained and Ive heard all of it so many times that when I put one of their records on, the whole thing flashes by. Easy to forget they actually did rock....

Avant jazz legend Carla Bley has passed away at age 87- better known in these parts for her 1975 collaboration with Mick Taylor and Jack Bruce. Very talented, very original.

From their first LP- different vibe than what came after. UK hippy flavor.

The closest equivalent that I can think of- not stylistically but in that seriously weird but totally original and over my head most of the time way- would be Bjork. I don't own any of her stuff but major props and artistically streets ahead of alot of whats out there.

So eccentric, so English and super talented. David Gilmour sponsored her when she was still a teen. Its a mixed bag but her best stuff is amazing.

Saw the show at Largo MD. The crowd enjoyed themselves but the playing was surprisingly haphazard given the lineup and the vocals (I'm looking at you, Ronnie Wood) got grating after a few songs. I know lots of people here enjoy the Buried Alive release... but I cant figure out why.

Saw BB with Bobby Blue Bland at the Roanoke Civic Center in 1977- we may have been the only white kids in the place. Amazing experience. Listened to this tune when I was kid and it scared the fertilizer out of me- don't answer the door for your sister, your mother, the doctor...or else.

"I remember going into a music store on Shaftesbury Avenue when we were about to make "Lola". I said, "I want to get a really good guitar sound on this record, I want a Martin". And in the corner they had this old 1938 Dobro resonator guitar that I bought for £150. I put them together on "Lola" which is what makes that clangy sound: the combination of the Martin

They re-issue so much stuff theyll probably get around to the later years before long. Interesting promo here, everybody on board except Dave..a little dated production-wise but its a good tune.

For the hardcore fan, a soundboard rehearsal from Konk Studios in the 90's- essentially a long medley- where the band runs through rarities like "Uncle Son", "Have a Cuppa Tea" "Autumn Almanac" and "Muswell Hillbillies" which were not played on tour (a shame...much prefer these than hearing "Lola" or "You Really Got Me" for the umpt

Almost sure to be his last new release- he's gotten frailer since. But its pleasant enough and well played- and sank without a trace.

Bear with me here- I'm binging on Youtube. Out promoting "Phobia" which was a massive commercial flop but theres something really appealing about this performance. Their time was up but they still had that certain something...

Ive owned loads of guitars- in the long run, generally regretted wasting money on the cheap ones and rarely if ever regretted spending more for quality.

Bought the Epiphone Limited Edition Custom Shop ES-175 (made in Indonesia if memory serves) when it came out several years ago- a very substantial, well made and attractive guitar for that price point (under a thousand)- my only complaint is the Alnico Classic pickups are under-powered (the rhythm pickup noticeably muddy). Purchased a pair of Gibson '57 Classics to upgrade- and they're

Cant recall seeing any discussion of this incredible group here at IORR- "Odessey and Oracle" is one of the top Brit albums of the Sixties and a must for any serious record collection...baroque pop psychedelia at its finest. Not to mention a string of top shelf hit singles.

Searched but couldn't find a "Kinks Stuff" thread to stick this in- looks like 1978 judging by the presence of ex-Pretty Things keyboard player Gordon Edwards. Never seen it before, must say they sound great.

He put out a well received bio a few years back- apparently Morris Levy and his Mafia cohorts in the Genovese crime family stole all the money from Tommy's commercial prime.
