Well, I told the whole story some years ago on a board (IORR?). I hesitate to tell it all again as some won't believe it anyhow. But I give a glimmer . . I'd met a lot of musicians in the 70's as I had worked for one of the biggest European promoters. It's been completely different times to now. I've been on both the 73 and 76 tour. Well, part of it. just a bett

@ Tatters I don't know that film. Was it a cinema movie? Who else played in it? Perhaps it wasn't shown In Europe/ Germany . .?

@ Mathijs That's the problem with being a Stones fanatic. The more you know about the stories and the real circumstances the more you loose your original enthusiasm ! I think LIb,SF and especially BB were all more or less late. But Exile not really.

In his new Exile book Greenfield tells the story again and this time says it's been Stills! The story had been told before various times but only guessing the name. Keith had thrown Stills out of his place (hotel?) after he had been beggin for more coke and making trouble. After that he sat fuming in his car outside the hotel with a big knife and theated to go back stabing Keith. (

Yeah, Turd but that is the difference! The fills and his hi-hat work has changed! And that was the best and most special from him! Just listen to YaYa's and his 70's stuff. The rest is mostly straight back-beat. And the "sound" doesn't really come from Charlie. Engineers work on that!

Sorry but his playin has become very unimaginative and stiff over the years. He was on top of his game in 69! 72-73 was still good as well. In those days he was in competition with all those superdrummers of those times. He could never play like them but at least he was stimulated from the mood of those days. Live he's now just playin straight on without imagination and all those l

When I did H.T. Woman with my band (some time ago!) we did it more like the Pie version from Eat It! Man,they had power! And I liked their drummer! Steve was great but for the Stones job his sidemen Frampton or Clempson would have been a better choice.

If you guys don't know about Blondie it is your fault ! He's been a great musician and known for years. In the early 70's he helped the Beach Boys to record their 2 best albums.(At least to me.) He is playin guitar, piano, perc. and sings. And the Stones use him for many things on and behind the stage. And it's been getting more and more. The boys are 60+ and need helpin

A very old-fashioned list! Bonham is No 1 course of that Zep craze. And there are better drummers these days than G. Baker . . Well, Charlie - technically he's not even in the Top 1000 list. But of course he's Charly and great for what he is!

Anybody could do it ?! Maybe, - but the thing is HOW they do it!! And to Beck, - that's why I didn't put him on my list. Although his playing would be great on some tracks! Beck and Jagger could work well with each other musically! (Have my doubts about Keith).

This is a Stonesforum. So everybody can live out their fantasies! Even if the same threads come up again and again. I think on the long run Ron was surely the right choice. Personaly I loved the Faces and especially Ron's early solo-stuff. But in the Stones there was always something missing to me! And many others who worked with them said the same! (Glyn Jones, M. Chess . .) I&

If I go back to those days there were quite a lot of players I would have liked in the Stones: Wayne Perkins,Mick Ronson, Nils Lofgren,Little Steven,Harvey Mandel(at least in studio),Rick Derringer,Clem Clempson,P.Frampton,James Williamson,Bobby Tench,Andy Taylor,Joe Walsh, Blondie,Steve Marriott . . And - if that would count - many players in Punk/ Post-Punk, plus all those guys in the da

This again shows the difference between records/ boots, etc. and the real shows! I've seen all Stones tours in the 70's (and many gigs) and in the flesh most of the 76 gigs had been really good! (Although I had been shocked by the first boots from 75 with Wood). On the other hand,- there was no Eurotour in 78 but everything you got to hear from that tour was disapointing and seem

One of my all time favourites! Loved both the stories and pictures. I got it in the mid-seventies from a friend who had been to the USA. I'm collecting Stones books for years and have lots of them. Unfortunately I lost this one from D. Dalton years ago. I've always been looking to find it again! So if anyone got one to sell/trade . . Greetings

Bjornulf - of course you are right about the behaviour. On the other hand when 40000 people behave civilized it's not the hottest Stones audience in the world ! LOL

Nobody seems to know what they really have in their vaults from those magic years! Fact is that a lot has been stolen, lost or ruined. Nobody really seemed to care about it in those times! Still there must be some pearls. Funny that nobody knows where they are and who owns them at the moment. Some has to be reworked - like G. Shelter negatives. Maysles told so but it would be expensive and

Listened to some 69-73 Taylor boots yesterday - and they were soo good! But in 73 Taylor was already keeping distance a bit mentally from the group. Some days were still awesome. On others he seemed bored. So the 69-72 stuff is more soulful. 73 had that pace ! Unbelievable !

It's always been one of my secret favs! I have a very nice extended studioversion of it on that Laid in the Shade Vol. 2 bootleg. Sound is not the best.Seems to be from radio-brodcast. Is there a better full version of this anywhere?!

I think they mess it up on purpose. They want to give some sugar to the fans but don't want to have it on boots, etc. But there is some real nice stuff on the board now. Unfortunately I don't get access! And they don't seem to answer anymore. Shame as I would like to see that stuff!

I've been reading and posting on this board for years. (Had a break for private reasons). One thing that is annoying me more and more is that the forum became so short-lived! There are many very good and interesting topics but on next day there are dozens of new ones and the more interesting themes are right away forgotten! No time to go deeper into anything anymore. No big problem

Good post, Turd! I have similar thoughts! Particularly real big fans often tend to be a bit more critical about the band. And that's fine! Being a fan doesn't mean you take everything! Unfortunately some guys don't get that!

To me only counterfeit stuff is a real problem and should be looked after. There will always been boots in whatever form. And they are mainly bought from huge fans who have all the official material anyway! But want more and special (live) stuff!

What do you find so special about Werchter? Been there and to me it wasn't that good. Neither musically nor setlistwise (for a touropener!) I find other dates more interesting although I had hoped for more for 07 Europe.
