The first disk has some of the beste grooves the band ever put on record and Keith plays an important role in these.

Can't believe why All down the line and Rocks Off are scoring low. These are absolutely two of my all time favorites and represent almost everything I love about them Stones.

QuoteStoneage For those interested in history: Yekaterinburg (after Catherine I, Peter the Great's wife) where Sweden won against Mexico today was the place for the execution of The House of Romanov. The second dynasty to rule Russia since 1613. On the night between 16-17 July in 1918 Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarina Alexandra and their five children were executed by Bolshevik troops. Their ser

The Licks Tour was exciting because of the format with three different kinds of shows and the ever changing setlists. It was fun to be surprised at a show, not to know which song will be next. Maybe not all performances were flaweless, but they compensated for that with a great choice of songs.

QuoteStoneage Do you have to predict all the games (in the group stage) at once? No, you can save your predictions for the first round and fill in the second round (and further) later.

QuoteDoxa Silver Dagger, thanks for your superb capturing of "Midnight Rambler"! Yeah, that was a hot version! Well, you've got me watching a youtube video, and I don't regret it! It is fascinating to see Ronnie taking the song in another direction. Unexpected surprises like these are one of the reasons why even those who think they've seen it all, are still c

Interesting credits for Stop Breaking Down. I guess it's a "traditional" at best, maybe a Robert Johnson song.

Quotemtaylor This video shows Bruce Springsteen has turned into a clown..... Well, to each his own. Moments of improvisation, like shown here, are part of the fun I get from going to a Springsteen show. I can understand others have different opinions, that's why it is good that there's more than just one artist we can choose to see. In a couple of weeks I will be seeing Ro

QuoteROPENI Not to start any wars, just would like to get your opinions. Here the excuse given most of the time is that The Stones must play basically the same set in every show with approx 90% made up of the "warhorses",because most of the audience doesn't really know anything else of their catalog except for the said "warhorses"and if they were to play lets say 50% of de

It's not a subject I care about, but this morning I head (for the first time) the song Outlaw in 'em that the Dutch contestant Waylon will be singing at the Eurovision Song Contest and I noticed he is mentioning Mick. It's not a very original songtext (what rhymes with "swagger"), but I thought it is worth to be mentioned in this forum. Here's the full lyrics

Where is the Department of Historical Accuracy when you need it? I am stuck at this point. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Boudoir Stomp or Midnight Rambler? Will we ever know for certain?

QuoteHis Majesty Various sources come together to place them there in April 1969, including being filmed for UMANO NON UMANO whilst being there. I'd say it's most likely they recorded it after they had wrote it, so mid to late April 1969 at the earliest. Umano non Umano was filmed in Roma, right? About 300 km from Positano. As I added later: according to the Mick Jagger bio

QuoteHis Majesty February seems very unlikely. They wrote Midnight Rambler and Monkey Man in Positano, Italy in April 1969. Okay, maybe not february, but march 10th or 11th according to Nico Zentgraf. Don't know his source, but perhaps it's in Martin Elliotts book? Have to check that out. How come you are so sure they visited Positano in april? And do you have another po

As far as I know the recording sessions of Midnight Rambler were in february 1969. (Olympic Sounds Studios London). The Boudoir Stomp was recorded at the jam session in april 1969. Then in july 1969 Midnight Rambler was performed live at the Hyde Park concert. In october 1969 they went back into the studio, but as far as I know only recorded Gimme Shelter, All down the line (accoustic versi

To my ears How can I stop and Slipping Away are complete different songs. Ballads, yes, but one is made for singing and the other for crooning. And yes, I've seen Slipping Away in 1995 in 2003 and in 2017 and each time it was great!

Parodies of a genre are different from parodies of themselves. Was the first parody of a genre "Something happened to me yesterday"? Could it be "Gomper" was a parodie of psychodelica? I love them doing parodies that are musically great, but give us something funny too. .

If this is the one from the SNL rehearsals it's both of them most probably, because they were both there in october 1978. But the song was also done at the RCA studios in august 1978, with only McLagan present. I don't actually hear a Wurlitzer on this version, do you?

Maybe we'll catch their attention... I don't think so. As someone posted before: there was a massive protest after the Rocks Off carnage on Live Licks all over the internet, but not a si
