Quotetimbernardis And what is the deal with Roger wanting Zac behind his plexiglass, why? As with so many things, it goes back to Roger's 2009 tour, when he put Scott Devours in a plexiglass cage and discovered it made his monitor mix far better. As mentioned earlier, what Rog really learned on that tour was that he could tour on his own in a sustainable way, and so could go back to Pete

QuoteHairball "...but if he missed a show, it would be the same as if Keith missed a Stones show - the difference would be visual, not audible". In other words, and the way I interpreted this, is that Pete is basically a prop, isn’t an active participant in the live shows, and adds very little if anything at all. But glad you were able to clarify what you actually meant in the end.

Thanks all for providing those quotes and corroboration above. In no way was I suggesting Pete isn’t an active participant in the live shows, he strums guitar, he solos in the slots designated for it, he jumps about, he banters between the songs. But the days of him leading the band from the front are over. Check any version of My Generation from 2006 - Pino, Zak, and Rabbit all following PT’s le

Quotebam Roger had bad voice problems and had to leave the stage at the Chicago show I saw on the Endless Wire tour; Pete continued without him. I, too, thought they were done. I think Roger had throat surgery after that. They also made a bigger point of forbidding smoking in the post-2012 shows. I was wowed by how much better they were on the Quadrophenia tour. It’s true that Roger had so

QuoteHairball Pete played electric at the Desert Trip shows, and was the dominant force imo - musically as well as all of the in between song banter. Also, last years shows he played electric and was an intergral aka MAJOR part of the show - very much so. Ultimatelty, all of the shows I attended in 2016 and 2019 would have been much weaker without Pete's involvement - visually, musically,

Quotetimbernardis what happened in 2012 that made the Who "Roger's band"? plexi Basically, in 2009-11, Pete didn’t want to tour, so Roger mounted a successful arena tour with a solo band. He suddenly had the experience of being in complete control of everything, and he liked it. In 2012, he said he would only tour with The Who if he got to do things his way. In practice this m

Quotetimbernardis Quotetommycharles I’m sure everyone’s seen it who wants to, but the Hyde Park gig is very good. It’s nice to see one from when Pino was still with the band - I much prefer his bass playing to Jon Button... Jon is a fine player in his own right but he sees his job as an Entwistle impersonator, where as Pino brought his own thing to the gig. Jon joining prompted Pete to comment th

Interesting, the whole Shea was released by Eagle Rock a few years ago, it’s not like they couldn’t just show the whole thing...). I hope the unreleased gig is from the orchestral tour last year. Those shows were brilliant. (I also doubt they have any Moon-era video in the vault that we haven’t already seen... given they’ve released things like the London ‘69 show with bits of songs missin

Neil Finn & Friends - Seven Worlds Collide (2001) Great guest spots from Eddie Vedder, Johnny Marr, Lisa Germano, and Phil Selway/Ed O’Brien. All tracks are great, but in particular Anytime, Take a Walk, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, and I See Red from this disc are worthwhile additions to anyone’s library.

Listened to The Game straight through just now, as it was 40 years old last week. Sonically, it shares a lot with News Of the World, insofar as it eschews studio excess and focuses on the sound of the 4 of them playing together. But in terms of the songs themselves, The Game is very much a singles album. The ones you know (Play The Game, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Another One Bites The D

+1 to all the mentions of Nassau. It rocks so hard. I’d say my favorites are 1. Nassau ‘76 2. A Reality Tour ‘03 3. Glastonbury 2000 4. Stage (2017 mix) Stage us a bit weird because the songs available elsewhere are generally better elsewhere. But it has some kickass versions of What In The World/Beauty And The Beast/Breaking Glass/etc.

QuotePaddy video: Dunno why, but I always loved this performance. Having just watched it, I don’t know why either ;-) Roger coming in too early on the Bridge, then deciding to bail on singing it completely (and the “know that the hypnotized never lie... do ya?!” moment is a key part of the song’s flow)... how many times had he sung WGFA by that point? Hundreds. Kenny and Pete are both a

QuoteRoll73 Quotetommycharles But what the hell was Keith playing in the intro? The ADTL intro is not hard... That's actually the closest I've heard him replicate the Exile version. Not that I've heard EVERY live version but of those I have heard he usually plays the riff from the end of the chorus as the intro (if that makes any sense!?) That’s a fair point - the riff from t

Third “All Down The Line” we’ve had as part of these, and this definitely the best one (which stands to reason, it was ‘94, not ‘15/‘16). But what the hell was Keith playing in the intro? The ADTL intro is not hard...

QuoteGivenToFly15 Let's hope Eagle didn't @#$%& this one up like everything else so far: the mix better be good! I know other people here are convinced otherwise - and I’m not a conspiracy theorist so I’ll just admit that I’m wrong about this - but it’s so hard to believe that the mixes on Voodoo Lounge Uncut/Bremen/Buenos Aires/No Security were done fresh in the 2010s. It still s

Quotepowerage78 It's a colorful, joyful and moving show. Musically, the band is far from the top. It starts out pretty strong, but the way all the guitars fall away in the third verse of Brown Sugar is pretty dispiriting. You didn’t expect us to keep playing through the whole thing, did you?!

I know it’s not unique to this show, but hearing it again today reminded me: the tom-driven thing Charlie does during the piano solo in HTW really really doesn’t work.

Quoteyeababyyea It's very likely Charlie's drum track is quantized since it's so common nowadays with all instruments. I think it's better to correct mistakes/fix timing than leaving it be, like they did with Charlie's drumming for the live tracks on "Honk" where you could hear missed drum beats on LSTNT and other tracks. Fixed in post or not, Charlie’s drummi

QuotePaul KerseyI'd like more audio only releases. Not sure why they stopped doing them. It’s a record company issue. A physical release of an audio product is Universal’s territory. A bonus audio disc with a dvd is something Eagle Rock (who is responsible for the From the Vault series) can do. You’d think everyone would learn to get along by now, but some things never change.

Quotejbwelda So these are basically front-of-house stereo mix soundboard tapes? jb I don’t know about that, but I’m confident these are the mixes as they were done in ‘94/‘98/‘99, rather than one done in 2019.

This release, as well as San Jose and both Bridges releases, make it pretty clear that they didn’t remix these for release. I don’t believe for a moment they’d have let these go out like this if they were mixing them from scratch, it’s just that in this case they either didn’t have the multi tracks or didn’t want to spend the money to mix them again, and they had existing serviceable mixes they c

QuoteRollingFreak QuoteChris Fountain Didn't Pete Townsend have hearing loss circa 1990? How was it repaired? I don't think it ever was. He just learned to live with it. The main thing Pete has is tinnitus rather than hearing loss per se, and as mentioned, he mainly just lives with it, but he also keeps his strange volume very low compared to other acts. His Fender amps on stage a
