Abraham Lincoln was giving a speech once, and a heckler yelled out: "Tell 'em all you know, Abe. It won't take long." Lincoln paused, and said: "I'll tell 'em all the TWO of us know COMBINED......and it won't take any longer."

OK, this 63 year old Stones Fan since 1964 feels the need to lighten the mood. A couple in their 90s is sitting on their front porch, enjoying the sunset from their rocking chairs. After awhile, the man looks over at his wife and says: "Honey, I just have to tell you. All these years have been so happy for me, and it's all because of you. I love you more than life itself."

The good news for my Bracket is that I picked both Villanova and Kansas for the Final Four, with Kansas going all the way. The not so good news is that the other half of my Bracket has been shot ever since North Carolina lost! Oh, well, still not too bad!

QuoteLeonioid D.O.A. by Bloodrock Lord, yes. What a horrifying song! Just the kind of thing to get you in a good mood for the rest of the day, right? I remember when that song first came out, and a friend brought the album over (which, I think, was "Bloodrock 2"). There was one passable song on it called "Lucky in the Morning," but that was about it!

Several years ago, the American Idol TV show had a theme episode of "60s British Rock." One of the tunes that contestants had to sing was "You Really Got Me." A co-worker the next morning and I were talking about the previous night's show, and she said, "I got so upset, they got it ALL wrong!! 'You Really Got Me' is not 60s British, it's a VAN HAL

I have to admit, while I always liked Neil Young's songs to a certain extent in the past, I was never really what anyone would call a big fan. I really wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. Then, I saw this Buffalo Springfield show, and I finally got it. This particular Bonnaroo also had Robert Plant, Gregg Allman, Mavis Staples, the original Meters with Dr. John, Loretta Lynn

The one year I've gone to Bonnaroo was a mighty good one to choose, because I had the great fortune to see Buffalo Springfield. This is a better quality version of "Rockin' in the Free World" than has been on YouTube previously. One of the top 20 concert moments in my life, and also one of the best "extended endings" to a tune that you'll ever hear! Put

Happy to say I saw him live during his 1974 US Tour, here in Atlanta, with Ravi Shankar. Yes, his voice was shot, but no one really cared. We just felt like we were in the presence of greatness. (Tickets for that show were nine dollars! It actually seemed a little high back then, because concerts were always about five bucks.) A brief clip that show:

We are from a similar NASCAR fan generation. Those Earnhardt - Gordon races were great, and you still had guys like Harry Gant and Alan Kulwicki out there. My first races were Modified cars, in Martinsville, 1967. First Grand National race was 1968, same track, won by Cale Yarborough, and featured Richard Petty, Elmo Langley, David Pearson, Bobby and Donnie Allison, Buddy Arrington, some vin

QuoteLeonioid The Daytona 500 race is tomorrow? I had no idea. I liked stock car racing as a kid, started loving it in the 80s and was a rabid fan in 90s and early 2000s... then the horse crap started when the old man died and the stupid punkass kid brian france took over. Brianboy is an idiot riding out the last days of what his Grandfather started... really he has been running it into

Any NASCAR fans out there among the Stones faithful? With me, it was genetic. Born in NC, raised in VA, started out a Richard Petty fan, then Dale Earnhardt, then Dale, Jr. Now, I have to go with Chase Elliott. Nothing quite like 40 cars at Talladega or Daytona going by you at 200 mph, each of them the volume of Blue Cheer. "I just feel bad for them boys back in the shop. The S

Reasonable face value tickets were gone here in Atlanta in about five minutes. I suspect the scalping ticket brokers snatched 'em up. Love to see him one last time, but I saw him twice in his prime (70s & 90s), and I really don't need to spend hundreds of dollars for another show. Maybe I'll win some on a radio contest or.....something..... Cheers

Happy New Year! My wife and I were invited to spend the New Year's Holiday with friends in Copenhagen. It was our first visit there, and we very much enjoyed Nyhavn, Rosenborg Castle, Tivoli Gardens (stunning with the Christmas lights and decorations), the Torvehallerne, Amelienborg Palace, and much more. (Not so excited about the Little Mermaid statue, though. Sort of a "well

The very first one I heard on the AM radio, in 1964, Martinsville, Virginia, nine years old, riding in the car with my dad.' IT'S ALL OVER NOW Bought that single (as well as TELL ME) within about two days at one of the local record shops, and played both of them to death. By the time SATISFACTION came out, the song that made my friends finally discover them, I already felt like

The Zombies (Odessey and Oracle tour)in Atlanta. And, unless I forgot someone.....that's it for the entire year. Used to go see bunches of folks all the time, but just not that excited these days having to spend a hundred dollars to go to a concert. I remember when we paid $9.00 to see George Harrison in 1974, and we were OUTRAGED at the price! At this point, I still want to see

A common theme among everyone in this list is "poor record sales, dropped by label." Interesting. All those millions of viewers, all that attention and hoopla....and, since very few people actually buy music anymore, they're done. Or, pretty much out of the music scene. I'm sure that pop radio gave all of them at least a little bit of airplay rotation, but only for awhi

Another great example of this problem is the current Blood, Sweat, and Tears, without one single original member. Bo Bice, from American Idol, on vocals. I'm sure they perform the songs well, and if all you want to do is hear those tunes and sing along to the hits, more power to ya. However, in my book, anyone who leaves that show and says, "hey, I saw BS&T last night,"

When you get in your 60s, I guess SOMETHING is gonna get you, right, and there are a lot worse things to come down with. My sense of humor has gotten me through a lot of rough times in my life, and I think it will help me through this as well. Should be extra easy to play the tambourine now! All I have to do is grab one, and instant music! I want to tell my band members we should learn

Thanks, folks. I watched the CBS News five hour "as it happened" video on YouTube this week (in stages, since it is five hours long). It starts with the first bulletin on CBS Radio, goes to the TV break in (on a "Bulletin CBS News" shot, since they didn't have a studio TV camera warmed up yet, I think it took something like 20 minutes before you could see Walter Cronk

OK, I guess we'll find the "over the age of 60" IORR members such as myself, now. For those of us who can remember November 22, 1963, it is just like 9/11 in the "where were you when you heard the news" category. In my case, I was in the third grade at an elementary school in Virginia. Nice fall day, we had just walked in from recess. Mrs. Stone, our teacher, would

CONGRATS to the Dodgers, 2017 NL Champs! My Yankees need to win this thing tonight. I am concerned that the day off, travel, having to face Verlander again, sold out maniacal crowd in Houston, Severino (who you never really know how he'll do until the first batter), etc., etc., might mean this thing goes seven games. What I want to hear WFAN announcer John Sterling say later this eveni

This is one of those lists where I'll give you five albums, and an hour later think, "how could I have forgotten (fill in the blank)? My best barometer of this would be: which albums just stopped me in my tracks, made me want to immediately listen to them again, have stood the test of time, and dramatically influenced my future appreciation of music. (And, having said all of th
