People tend to lump anything from 1968 as Beggars Banquet era material, but really, anything post the sunset Sound mixing sessions in July? 1968 is music made for their next album... There is no real evidence to show that Midnight Rambler appeared in any musical guise during the BB sessions. Have Mick or Keith ever said a date when they wrote those two songs?

Yeah me thinks 1969 for Mick with the Maton guitar. Also, Mick can be seen with the same shoes in 1968 on the set of Performance. To keep things flowing in an Anita way, there are LOADS of great pics to be found here...

Oh man, that is DEFINITELY Marianne! Is there somefink in the air today? Their look isn't too far of from this... Keith has that cool little twsity thing on the top of his mop that seems particular to mid 68. Maybe they nipped off for a few days to bonk and get a rest from Brian(not turning up!) hahaha.

Yeah, I'm just curious as to where the April 1969 date is coming from. In one of the quotes about when they wrote in Italy, Keith mentions they visited the same place before. Of course, they could have visited anywhere at anytime, so it's all a bit, erm, somefink...

I always thought that stair photo was somewhere in Europe, maybe Italy earlier on in 1968, perhaps when they wrote Midnight Rambler and Monkey Man. Keith's hair looks much longer at the airport imo and in other pics of them in Brazil. But if Getty Images says it's Brazil, I guess it probaby is.

Brian's slide playing by 1968 was pretty fragile. The outtakes of No Expectations and the playing on Still a Fool show that. The slide on Jigsaw Puzzle is too 'solid' to be Brian. The playing has an authority to it that is very Keith. It's freaky, but assured!

On the sacd version... The bass is mixed left, I dont hear it as two seperate parts as the bass is just playing fills as opposed to keeping a solid rhythm. Two acoustics mostly to the right, one through the philips tape machine the other recorded in a more traditional way. Then there's the electric lead guitar, with some slap back echo on it. Charlies drums and the acoustics are
