Fun to read the comments regarding AARP sponsoring the tour. Like others, I wondered what kind of merch could be sold beside posters, t-shirts, etc. I pictured walkers with a tongue badge attached to the front bar, transport chairs with a tongue logo on the seat back, supp hose with tongues running up and down their length, a dentures case with a tongue logo on its lid. The mind boggles at the am

A nice read on how the cassette tape revolutionized our listening experience. I still have a box full of tapes, full albums by various bands and any number of mix tapes that required sitting with headphones on for hours, days it sometimes seemed, trying to capture that perfect groove on one side of the tape and then the other. Embracing Mother Nature and JD back then helped me get through all tha

Listened to the Fallon show cover of LARS. Nice cover band working hard at trying to emulate Dylan's original, but there ain't pizzazz in the sound or groove, IMHO. Regarding Cat Power, again, IMHO, her vocalization is very affected. The whole thing reminds me of a Las Vegas lounge act.

The Isley Brothers cover of Ohio/Machine Gun. What a groove. Y'all might also wanna check out their covers of Carole King's It's Too Late and Seals and Croft's Summer Breeze. They have a catalog well worth exploring.

Interesting. I hear somewhat echoes of Hot Stuff by Donna Summer in part of its beat, mechanized whatever throughout it and the coming of AI to popular music. A brave new world of music, among many things, awaits us.

Hmm...can list albums but songs vary from day to day. The Rolling Stones Now! American version. This was my go to everyday Stones listen for years. It was the music I turned many people onto regarding the Stones. They had never heard the Stones this way. Exile - what can I say? Not every song was/is still liked by me, but overall...damn! Beggar's Banquet - the quintessential Stones

Came across this. No idea if this has been posted previously. It could be considered a shoe gazing version or your being in a smoky bar, sipping a glass of absinthe to get buzzed, dreaming on take. It's different.

Someone posted "Soul's Chapel" by Marty Stuart. Oh, what a great collection of Southern soul/gospel/country which can all be sort of the same thing. The guitar work on this album is stunning, IMHO. Marty's doing "The Weight" with The Staple Singers as his duet partners is also worth checking out. Also, George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" (a hymn for all

Just passed due to cancer. He played Shaft in a few movies and worked in other movies and television work. One could say his role as Shaft kicked off not only his career but also gave a big boost to Issac Hayes who composed the theme song for the movie. This led to the era of Blazploitation movies some of which were good but many weren't. Richard Roundtree, ‘Shaft’ Star, Dies at 81 (Varie

Just passed. He played Paulie in the Rocky movies of which I've watched each one more than once. He also worked in many other films and t-v shows, but Paulie will always be his main legacy.

What a great read regarding Robert McCormick's blues odyssey. One can only imagine how much is to be discovered in his collection efforts. Hope the link works for y'all.

Wow! Try Me - what a great song - is pure James Brown. The sound, voice, pauses in the music bring to mind when Brown would stop in a song, fall to his knees, and a band member would come out seeing if he was okay, eventually placing a cape or such on Brown, which he'd shuck off and get back into the song, the crowd going wild. Such showmanship. Wouldn't you love to see Mick do similar

Came across this. No idea if it's ever been posted before. Pretty cool and definitely rock'n'roll. Amazed at how polite and well dressed the audience is. Enjoy.

He made such great music. To this day I highly recommend his Indianola Mississippi Seeds album as a great way to get into BB King. Regarding Bobby Blue Bland, saw him a number of times. IMHO, Bland was the best blues singer around. His voice just drew you in and made you feel the music. Here's one of my fave cuts by him - Memphis Monday Morning.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that Keith is pictured with a Gibson guitar and not a Telecaster. What is this world coming to?

Wasn't sure I wanted to wade into this, but here I am. Many moons ago Rolling Stone magazine (yeah, news print folded over days and then slick pages) was a constant for me. Even Joni mentioned Rolling Stone in one of her songs. Then, it wasn't. I'd grab a copy off of the newsstand occasionally if it had something that seemed interesting, but it no longer seemed relevant to music (o

Oh wow. I had forgotten that big hair look. I can only imagine what she looked like back then when she let her hair down and removed layers of make-up.

Oh, how many of us watched this show. I like that they mention the character Eugene Victor Tooms. The episodes featuring him are two of my faves. If you were a fan of the series you probably have your own.

Cool. His "No Other" album is still a wonder of cosmic cowboy music meant for cruising under the stars in the cool desert night. Thanks for the post.

I know it'll be blasphemy here, but as I scrolled through these images, some of which are pretty cool, I couldn't help but think Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days" should be blasting in the background.

What a fascinating read. I never thought of me as a music/movie/tv archivist with my boxes of records, cassette tapes, 45 rpm singles, reel to reel tapes, all kinds of stuff I came across online from the arts on storage drives. I might have to get a t-shirt or two made with the slogan "Proud To Be A Pirate Preservationist" emblazoned on them. I am sure many folks would look at the sloga

Oh, man, new era? I think it's more about relevancy in the idea of "Hey, remember us, we're still around making records." I know, a bit of snark, but....

What an interesting read. That Des Barres is still called a slut is amazing to me. Her tales are of a certain time and place and space in our lives, summed up as sex and drugs and rock and roll. Times change, we change (many of us), what was once wild and cool seems like someone else's life so we distance ourselves from it (Hello, Mick, give Pam a ring). I can still recall the Plaster Caster

The longtime host of the game show, who retired some years ago, has passed away at age 99. The show, The Price Is Right, for those who don't know of it, is still on hosted by Drew Carey. I used to watch it for an hour of amusement. Barker was also big on animal care and well being mentioning pets in almost every show. RIP, Mister Barker.
