QuoteMisterDDDD Wouldn't say they peaked in the early seventies, but don't believe there was a better time for the J Geils Band after perhaps the mid-seventies. They achieved more commercial success in the early eighties with Centerfold etc., but as a band they peaked years earlier.. Second best live band I've ever seen ..and they opened for the Stones back in 1982, just af

Quoteastmalia In the seventies, I liked: The Rolling Stones - An illustrated record by Roy Carr ..which is still great IMO though it ends with the Tour of Europe 1976. A very bad book was written by Barbara Charone About Keith Richards. She admires him so much that it is very boring to read. In her opinion, everything he did was just great, and she thinks he is the center of the Rolling Sto

QuoteRollingFreak Its one of the saddest stories in rock. For 10 years, he was basically perfect. Then in like 1976 he never did another good thing again. Its absurd. And its amazing that first 10 years was SO good that it can overshadow 40 bad ones. He's as lite and Vegas as you can get now, with songs that were SO good. I saw Rod Stewart in concert back in 1986 and he and his band we

QuoteKingbeebuzz On the TAMI show Brian used a 6 string. On Joe Loss BBC Radio Show he used a 6 string. Is Wikipedia entry wrong?p I always thought the on the TAMI Show the Rolling Stones performed to a pre-recorded instrumental tape with only Mick Jagger singing live. It could be the same on the Joe Loss Show but I know nothing about it.

QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotewindmelody That was a great show, and I prefer most nineties concerts (and 89 of course) to the hyped 81/82 shows. In 81/82 Mick Jaggers vocals were often nothing but shouts, and his wardrobe was absolutely horrible. I find that strange. In 1973, 1975, 1976 and partly 1978 his vocals were often shouts. 1975/1976 in particular. In 1981 he obviously had been taking

QuoteRuediger "The Rolling Stones Live in London" Recorded live at Wembley Empire Pool, September 8, 1973 (RS 2001 - Forbidden Fruit Productiones,USA 1973) I bought this VERY expensive record at a shop in Berlin in 1980. My first Bootlegs, which I bought in 1977 in the city of Tuebingen, were Welcome to Frankfurt 1976 colored Vinyl - great to look at but shitty sound (Bill

Quotejlowe Here is a stab at Question 1. Whilst not word for word, it summarises the situation Bill found himself in 1971 (Stone Alone book). In 1970/71 The Stones (minus Mick T) found themselves each with tax debts of £100k. Their income (less tax) was insufficient to quickly pay the amount off. Rather than do a deal with the Authorities they went for tax exile (though not in itself a cheap

Being the archivist of the groug, Bill Wyman might be the most interesting band member to ask quastions about the early years of the Rolling Stones. Unfortunately, some time ago I learned too late that he was at Zurich which is not too far from me, and the People were allowed to ask him some questions. Apart from asking him which early concert recordings from the Brian Jones and Mick Taylor era

QuoteRedhotcarpet There are no bad songs on it but I see Salt of the earth as a part of the album, a finishing touch - not a strong song but a nice performance. Come on, Salt of the earth is my favourite Stones song! Always has been for 40 years now. Beggars Banquet is a classic in teh entire album department athough a song like Dear doctor surely is no classic (in fact, it only works o

A friend of mine gave me a cassette with the early hits back in 1975. I was amazed (and still am) at the variety in their Music and their creativity during the Brian Jones years. Then I heard GYYYO with Mick Taylor. An I bought the first bootlegs in 1976 which was quite an adventure back then.

Quotedcba "He has more material than the stuff which appeared on bootlegs" I always thought what's been "handed" to Scorpio Records was a sort of "worst-of" of the June 23 tapes. All the boring/unimportant stuff is here, all the inspired music isn't. Hopefully Jagger will acquire this tape for an official release... I don't think the owner of the ta

QuoteCamRS I think some of you are missing Bjornulf’s point. Of course the Stones care about their performance and entertaining the fans. What they don’t care about are the fans who are complaining they only played 19 songs instead of 20, or complain that they should be playing Citadel instead of Miss You. Those are nitpicking types of complaints. -Cam No, they are not! Nobody expects

I have often wondered why there is a piano audible on the Get Yer YaYa's live album. Is it an overdub, or did Ian Stewart actually play on stage? If you listen to the Oakland November 9, 1969 soundboard recording there is no piano to be heard on any of the songs.

As far back as during Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) at Hamburg, October 2, 1973, evening show, Mick tries to sing a verse while the others are singing the 'doo doo doo doo doo' Chorus. After a line or so he joins in.It adds to the live experience on that Special night, and we have enough intact live Versions from that tour, so I find it charming. You can hear the song on the bo

He plays 30-34 songs over 3+ hours (without an intermission) and plays at least 20 Beatles songs each night...both hits and album cuts. He changes his setlist just enough on each tour to keep it interesting and he is always "on." His band is excellent too. Looking forward to seeing him again soon. Really? I c

QuoteHMS QuoteOpenG Musically the stones live during 1969 thru 1973 with Taylor in the band was the best lineup how can one argue with that is beyond me Taylor played way too much. He was - maybe still is - an excellent player but in those live years he often played too much stuff on songs that do not need that kind of playing. Some songs do even suffer from his playing hundreds of notes not b

How about a 'rarity corner' with one real rarity being played at each concert? I'm sure People would not walk out!
