QuoteDoxa QuoteDandelionPowderman It's up there in top 5 or 6 quality-wise among their best tracks, too, imho. What goes for those highly popular slow songs, they seem to have them in rotation, just playing about one of them per gig, since Mick sees that too many slow songs is not good for the flow of the concert (or something). So it is hard for a ballad to get a 'war horse' st

Quotebv It is my policy, running IORR since 1980, to give the band members respect of their private life at their homes. No need to stalk them at their homes. Dear Bjornulf, you are absolutely right but do we really think that it would be interesting to see Mick Jagger's living room as a fan, only to say 'Whow, this is your living room'? How boring would this be? And if you wo

QuoteRawIguanaCologne Anyway, I try to imagine those days in the mid 70s with 2 shows - I know they were in their early 30s and the drugs did work for some of them these days... ...but still it is an exhausting schedule! Even LISTENING to 2 Stones shows (by the likes of 1972, 1973 or 1976) in a row is a roller coaster. I knew some local bands who used to play for 4 or 5 hours, with brea

QuoteNeverMakeASaintOfMe The mix is truly horrible but The Troggs were pretty solid and for sure took on the early punk or garage rock feel in the 70s. Yes, indeed the mix ruins it all.

There were some reasons for the double-show concept: - They were much younger back then and had lots more energy. For insstance, Mick Jagger sang quite 'natural' without much effort up until 1973. Only on the last number Street fighting man he pushed to the limit. - There were some ballads in the setlist (eg. Love in Vain, Prodigal son, Angie). - The setlists were rather stale so a

Quoteslew I agree with Van! I have been an ardent Van Morrison fan since the early 1980s, owning most of his records and many, many bootlegs, attending many concerts, but this does not mean that everything he does, says (and puts on record) is really a classic. What he says about Covid is wrong and reckless! I can understand that at 75 he suffers by not being able to perform like he was use

I remember how blown away I was by the brillant Sound of the Brussels and London recordings when I bought the NASTY MUSIC double live bootleg back in 1977. It's a shame they obviously did not record any of the two or three liver versions from the 1973 Tour of Europe professionally because that would have been a substantial addition. Neverthjeless, this demo is great, regardless of when the vocals were recorded. If Mick could sing now on a Studio recording like he did in the 1970s it wopuld be unbelievable!

QuoteRisingStone Bob Dylan - At Budokan Largely disparaged, dismissed or ignored by critics and Dylan enthusiasts alike over the years as his “Vegas” album. I feel there is rich musicality in the kaleidoscopic arrangement adopted for reinventing the material when it comes to the performances recorded and heard on this album. FYI see the customer reviews on amazon.co.uk — most of the voices are s

There was a Stones release of STAR STAR some years ago in which the part "keep your pussy clean" was overdubbed in such a way that the words could hardly be heard. Can we expect the same mutilation in the new GHS release? What's the general opinion on such alterations of past Stones songs? Some of t

Quotedjango I remember that show very well. It wasn't my regular TV program at the time but I had to watch it because of the Stones topic. A snippet of the Respectable video was shown and the final master question was: Who was the father of the Rolling Stones? Instead of the expected answer "Alexis Korner" the guy said Muddy Waters. Alexis seemed a little disappointed when he enter

Fourty years ago, on July 13, 1980, the Rolling Stones were the topic of the German quiz show 'Der Große Preis' which was broadcast via ZDF television and was hugely popular in Germany back then. The candidate was 22-year-old Eberhard Fritz, and he won the quiz show, being entitled to reappear in August, where he went out second. They invited Alexis Korner to appear on the show, and he

Having attended the most memorable concert at Nürnberg (Nuremberg), Germany, on the Zeppelinfeld on July 1, 1978, I am still waiting for another live compilation from that tour besides the Budokan Album. IMO this was a great tour, so different from the legendary 1974 tour, and Dylan invented himself anew. Like for instante the live versions of Mindight rambler from Leeds 1971 and Brussels 1973

I must agree with Bill Wyman. Tt would have never worked for the said reasons (same goes for Eric Clapton, btw). But it would have certainly interesting if he had had the chande to contribute on one or two songs, like the other guitarists on Black & Blue. And Rory Gallagher would have been prevented from making those great records back in the late 1970s.

Then, back in 1977, I heard the live version on the Brussels Affair Bootleg. Af

Quotebritstones The professional recordings I’ve heard from the ‘72 and ‘73 tours are atrocious! I don’t listen to Ladies and Gentlemen much either because of the sound. The drums sound terrible, the kick sounds like a cardboard box for the most part. The bass sounds like what Jaba the Hut looks like, fat and shapeless. Everything sounds lifeless. The ‘69 and ‘71 tour recordings are miles better.

Quoteironbelly One should keep in mind that Brussels Affair 1973 (2CD) was re-issued two times in vanishing quantities as a part of the box and as Japanese Ward Records bonus to Marquee 1971. This one is the easiest choice because they do not need to do extra work. Everything is ready. No need to mess with outtakes. Being a historian I must say that we simply do not know if the Rolling Stones will be remembered 100 or 200 years from now by a broader audience.Of Course there will always be some aficionados but it could be a very, very small number after those who actually lived through the Stones era (e.g: WE!) hwill have passed away. History shows that it will me more or less an accident. There were very
