QuoteLongBeachArena72 "100 Years Ago," though, I found completely bonkers. What was this clavinet bullshit? Clavinet Bullshit!!!??? What? It's a funky beauty..... Love the psychadelic atmosphere of GHS. So much better than the average "rocktunes" from IORR.

QuotePecman .I'll give you my Top 10 Post Tattoo You because it's not fair to include that as "80's" because the whole album will probably take up half the list. Yes. Already done a list of songs from 86-15 If from 81 it would be the all songs from Tattoo You + feel on baby Tattoo You is actually the only Stonesalbum where I like all of the songs. Beggars Ban

QuoteGasLightStreet Why wasn't this track included on REWIND, JUMP BACK or FORTY LICKS when something... lesser or considerably worse was (Fool To Cry, Respectable, Rock And A Hard Place, You Got Me Rocking, Stealing My Heart, Keys To Your Love)? Agree. It's a bit sad. Should have been included. It's time for the mainstreamaudience to hear this great song.

I wasn't that thrilled about the studioversion but the one from Hampton 81 is fantastic. Better live in 81 than in 78. IMO.

A little bit of discofunk (Thinkance pt 1/Everything is turning to Gold/Sweet Thing) 1 Reggae Tom Waits kind of jazzyballad (Keith singing) At least 1 with the Micks falsetto MT guest on 1-2 songs 1-2 dirty blues numbers (Thinkarachute Woman) 1 soulgospel (but don't written to work in arenas) (Think Let it loose. Don't Think Saint Of Me) And some other tunes... Maximum 11 song

Quotegeordiestone The first Bootleg i bought. I felt disappointed at the time at the lack of any audience noise. It makes it sound very odd imo. Agree. One of my first bootlegs. Took many years for me to revisit the 72/73-tour after this experience ....but suddenly ..thanks to other bootlegs....it's now my favourite tour (together with 73 and 81)

No of course ...a lot of it was of course Micks fault. And I'm a great fan of Keith. But Keith for sure had his responsibility for ww3.

Country Honk Love Is strong You Got me Rocking Out Of Tears I Go wild Luxury If you really want to be my friend Harlem Shuffle (like the original though) Rock and a Hard Place Hold on To Your Hat I've never listened to side B of Dirty Work and I don't remember any tunes from that record apart from HS, OH and Fight. Otherwise more songs from DW could have been in bottom 10.

QuoteTurner68 To a new Stones fan I'd think the '89 sound is much more attractive than anything between 75 and 81. Yes the polished versions on the 89-90 -tours attracted the mainstream audience. And that was very important for the future of the Rolling Stones. I can agree. But I'm myself not a big fan of the the versions from 89. But Bitch was really good....but slick

QuoteHMS It is fast and it has punch, but to me it sounds a bit slick. And look at those awful costumes they wear! Agree Great energy but sooo slick. Compare it to the 72 versions. And the awful clothes. Their worst ever. But you have to remember it was the late 80's.

It happened a lot in Music between 89 and 94. The most important thing was the new rocksceene....grunge and britpop...and also bands like Black Crowes and Primal Scream. Guitardriven rockmusic was - once again - the coolest thing. And the coolest record of them all was Exile on Main Street. Definatelt the most hip record of 92/93. Mick was very aware of the new trends...which suited him

QuoteRobertJohnson Nothing like that, the 69/78 line up is the best, the great five + piano player (or: the five + MT + piano player). I must say I do think sax, horns and organ actually very much add something to their Music. That's why 72-73 and 81 are my favourite tours.

Quote1962 Singer/harmonica, 2 guitars, bass, drum, piano, maybe some sax, rarely Hammond organ: that's enough for a blues band who plays rock'n'roll !!! Sax - very important in my opinion. RIP Bobby and Ernie Watts was incredible. Hampton - Best version ever of LIB Horns (yes but only for a limited set of songs like Rocks Off or Bitch) Strings ...no....however... I woul

Was that an intentional effect or just a result of the size of the stage (their biggest ever?). Great setlists and great energy in 89. And a very important - and successfull - tour for the band. But the sterile sound - and buried guitars/late 80's keyboards - gave the songs almost a robotic feeling. A very strange sound. The warm and organic sound was back a couple of years later at t

The album is really good. And their "desert disco rock" from 79 (78)-81 (or 83)" sounds very fresh and modern today. I actually think these albums - in later years - have been more influential to new bands than Exile, Beggars, Sticky or LIB.
