Willy DeVille is dying of pancreatic cancer. Fans have started on online petition to enter him in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. You can sign the petition here: An anecdote about Mick Jagger and DeVille from the liner notes to "Cadillac Walk: The Mink DeVille Collection." Ben Edmonds relates how Mick Jagger dropped by the Hollywood recording studio where Jack Nitzsche was prod

I was there! My memories of the event: getting my bottle of JD confiscated after being searched at the Winterland entrance, why are there hippies in this crowd?, the Nuns really suck, especially the lead singer, Johnny Rotten closing a nostril with one finger and blasting snot out of his other nostril, Rotten examining the loot that had been thrown on stage and asking "Whyn't you thr

I'm very sad too. I just love his music. And I almost hate to say it, but his "Better Move On" is even better than the Stones' version.

"Should anyone hear any news of his progress please post it here." More bad news about Willy: He has now been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His wife Nina writes, "It is with a broken heart that I have to tell you that while the doctors examined Willy to prepare him for the Hep C treatment, they discovered that he has pancreatic cancer. He is doing okay and is not in pain

A very sad and beautiful song. It should be noted that "Goat's Head Soup" is a melancholy album, if you take away "Star Star" and "Silver Train." "Winter" is a sad one, and "Heartbreaker," while it is upbeat, is about tragic death. "Angie" is about the end of a love affair. "Hide YOur Love" and is about unrequited

Dylan's influence on the Stones reached its zenith in "Beggar's Banquet" in songs like "Jigsaw Puzzle." "...and the queen is bravely shouting 'What the hell is going on'" is very Dylanesque. Dylan was a big influence on everybody in the 1960s, the Beatles as well as the Stones. I remember at interview with Jagger where he said kinda sneerin

I have a hunch it wouldn't work out. What Taylor and Keith had 35+ years ago was very special. They were really attuned to each other. They complemented one another perfectly. Many years have passed and I don't think they could recover that. Lightening doesn't strike twice in the same place.

It's great to see so many Stones fans wishing Willy DeVille well. After the Stones, Willy is my all-time favorite rocker. He's like the Stones in that you can listen to the albums over and over again and get something new from them each time. And also like the Stones, he has always worked with superb musicians and collaborators (Doc Pomus, Jack Nietschze, Eddie Hidalgo, Mark Knofler,

Is she singing in Swedish or something? I couldn't understand a word. I always thought it was funny that Faithful claimed Jagger was "middle class" as if it was an insult. And here she is living off his reputation 40 years after she was his boyfriend. A musical leach, in other words.

Waylon Jennings' song about Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. Includes the lines: "If you ain't been there, I guess you ain't been told/You just can't come from Texas unless you got a lot of soul" Blatant pandering to the Dallas audience!

I just went on LimeWire to look for some Stones songs. The service used to be a good one, but now the search mechanism brings up all kinds of junk. What's the best file sharing service? Do you know one better than LimeWire?

I love Mink Deville and Willy's solo work after he left that band. He had a drug problem for about two decades, which soured his music career, but he was extremely talented. A lot of people don't know that he got his start at CBGBs, were the Ramones played. He was sort of a man out of his time. His musical vocabulary extends to blues, Latin soul, and country. He's very much a

YouTube has a bunch of great Stones material circa 1972 from "Beat Club," a German TV show. These videos were made on May 18, 1972 at the Rialto Theater in Montreaux, Switzerland, when the Stones were rehearasing for their 1973 tour. Tumbling Dice: Hipshake: Jammin' with Stu: Loving Cup: Also try searching "Beat Club, Germany" at YouTube -- you'll
