Quotememphiscats I just checked this list. It appears to be a moving target. I mean I just saw Exile posted at #79. Yes, of course, people are constantly voting. Quotememphiscats Frankly, I don't give a shit about lists like this. Example: I follow a lot of films and I've never seen a top 100 that reflects my taste (though some of my picks do make it onto the lists). No, every

Quotejamesfdouglas Quotetreaclefingers ALSO, there is quite a lot of incredible music out there, so the Stones do have a lot of competition. Quite right. I'll always have a soft spot for The Stones as I grew up with them. But I did keep growing - kind of away from them. It doesn't suprise me that their albums are ranked that low - they're not an 'album band' - they n

QuoteFather Ted I know how good most of the Stones albums are. The fact that some self-selecting does reflect my personal musical taste does not bother me one jot. It's only the insecure and terminally hip that need constant reinforcement of their own tastes. The rankings don't really bother me. But I'm confident enough about my own knowledge of music to say they're plainl

Usually when some magazine features a "Greatest Albums Ever" list, the Stones have a couple in the top 10 or at least top 20. However, on Rate Your Music, the rankings are : 55. Sticky Fingers 65.Let It Bleed 81.Exile on Main Street 84.Beggars Banquet 462.The Brussels Affair (Live 1973) 567.Aftermath 627.'Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!' 1746.Some Girls 2006.Between the But

Quotenoughties bliss wrote: "Perhaps best debut album of 1964?" Manfred Mann`s debut, "The Five Faces of Mann"; - more polished, better musicians. I like Manfred Mann too, but they are just not in the same league as the Stones. Better musicians ? Mike Vickers a better guitar player than Keith ? Tom McGuiness better than Bill ? Paul Jones a better singer than Mick ? No wa

The Rolling Stones no. 1 is great and is actually the Stones' biggest chart success ever, spending 12 weeks at number 1 in the UK. I'm not going to argue about which one is the best ever (sure Hendrix and Doors are great too!), but for me there is not one dull second on this record. Another pretty good debut that has not been mentioned here is The Angry Young Them (UK version far su

Quotehumanriff77 What is the best Golden Earring record?, I only know a best of and the hit album they had in the early 80`s. Somewhat off topic I guess, but I couldn't resist since I know this band very well. In fact, I travelled from Oslo to Goes (in Holland) a couple of months just to see them. On their first four albums they were a "beat group" and then they went heavy in 196

I quite like DW, although it is probably one of my least favourite Stones albums. Like someone said, I think it is very "guitar driven". I don't know any Stones albums where the guitars sound quite as agressive as on DW. Another good thing about DW is that it does not contain many "Stones-by-the-numbers" songs. What I found shocking when I first heard it, is the lack of m

Quotetreaclefingers These are the 'holy grail' for collectors. No actual retail release. Test pressings I believe and MAYBE a promo, but probably not even that. You're probably right. According to Roy Carrs "An illustrated record", it was assigned a catalogue number, F 11742, with Poison Ivy as the intended A-side. I seem to recall that I have read somewhere that it w

I love it and "Stealing my heart" too. Not so fond of "Don't stop" and "Losing my touch", though. I seem to remember that they recorded close to 30 songs during these sessions. What happened to the rest ?

I never understood why anyone would want the Super Deluxe Box Sets. Who wants 5 CDs worth of false starts for songs you can get in perfect condition ? Not me. I want something that I will actually listen to. The 2CD set, however, is precisely what I want. The original record plus 12 brand new songs for essentially the price of a single CD. That's a great bargain!

Here is a list of all the songs she wrote, mainly for other people, in the period 1958-69: . This is where the real meat of her songwriting can be found. Of her own records, I prefer the early ones : Now that everything's been said (The City) and Writer.

Quotebv I have the paper in front of me. The Varner brothers are of course proud to be pictured next to Mick, Keith and Charlie, even if Petter Varner is stating he is more of a Coldplay fan... But this is business. They say they paid 6 million US dollars for royalties, the rest is advertising and staging up the Dressman stores to look like concert venues. Your interpretation may be correct, b

QuoteRocky Dijon "Plundered My Soul" and "Following the River" were both singles and, to judge by the vocals, were new songs as far as most people were concerned. Since the band isn't in the studio working on a new album now and since it's even less likely Dressman would be given an exclusive Rolling Stones single cut specially for Dressman in 2011, I suspect a singl

QuoteVoodooLounge13 So what exactly does that mean they bought the rights to those 5 songs? I mean I know what it means, but does it mean only that they get a cut of the profits everytime that it's played, or are the Stones obligated now to play those songs? Some (OK all) of which I don't really care if I hear again. I think it means that they can freely use these songs in their com

QuoteRolling Hansie Quotewalkingthedog It says that there is a $10 million budget for expenses for concert stages, lightning, commercials and miscellaneous. To me that is a giant amount of money, but in Stones terms that would be a rather small budget. This would be Varners part. The total budget is something completely different, of course.

It says that there is a $10 million budget for expenses for concert stages, lightning, commercials and miscellaneous. Would this make

QuoteKuntaman The UK-tour 1966, Stones had the Yardbirds as opening act. At that point they had Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on guitar, had made great blues stuff for more than two years while Stones in 1966 played pop! Just listen to the "Got live if you want it" LP from that tour, sounds horrible! I have never heard anything from Yardbirds stuff from this tour, but I suspect that they pla
