QuoteGADAWG QuoteR It's worth noting that blockbuster lighting, special effects and multiple, massive, hi-res video screens, along with the people who make them function, are not free. All add to the cost of a ticket. And imagine the cost when rolled into only 5 shows as opposed to 140 tour dates. I don't think all the bitching has been entirely fair. I have no doubt the staging,

QuoteGravityBoy He stood up to the oil industry. Good for him. Now the real trouble will start. He nationalized the oil industry and bankrupted his country as a result.

QuoteErik_Snow Concerning that tour with Bowie in the clip....that's Bowie's worst ever tour (IMO), Glass Spider 1987, so I don't listen a lot to them performances I walked out of that show. I had no idea Charlie was in it. I think Peter Frampton was. I was at the opposite end of the field.

His "Under The Wishing Tree" from 1995 is an absolute masterpiece. I saw him with the Arc Angels many years ago. It was NOT a pretty sight primarily because Charlie was trying to be heard above a too loud and too wasted Doyle Bramall II. SAW HIM AT AUSTIN CITY LIMITES ONCE. HE WAS GREAT. He's the only reason to go to a Dylan show anymore.

"Why have The Stones never gone on The Howard Stern Show?" Unless you are a pathetically desperate, attention whore there is no need to go on the Howard Stern Show.

QuoteTurner exactly...Bells is in Michigan LOL. As is New Holland and Founders. I have West Michigan's longest running Stones exhibit in my house. No need to go to Cleveland.

I saw Toler and David Goldflies with Dickey's band a few years ago and they were just off the hook, AMAZING! Of course drunk or sober Dickey is apparently such a bastard he can't keep a band together. I knew people in the '70s who attended college with, or somehow knew, Goldflies and Toler and apparently the story of Dickey discovering them in a Cincinnati bar are true.

Quotegotdablouse That thread title got me excited but, a bit poppy, no? Kinda 80s? The voice sounds a bit "processed" too... Wait'll you hear the auto-tune effect on the new Rod Stewart single. OMFG.

He does Beast of Burden as an encore, too. Then he appears at the front of the house, with a big smile on his face, to shake hands. Classy act.

The bottom line is the Mick and Keith are cynical opportunists. They ceased to be artists about the time Nixon was elected to a second term (though one had nothing to do with the other). Most of us have never known a world when the Stones WEREN'T cynical opportunists.

I saw Johnnie sit in with the Stones at Busch Stadium, St. Louis, in 1989. It was just a week or so after I'd seen Sugar Blue sit in with them at Alpine Valley. near Chicago.

Good grief. I spent yesterday preparing advertising for a venue here in Michigan that has a blues series. I read about Magic Slim here this morning but it it didn't click until the client called to let me know they had to replace 'Slim and I was to change the materials accordingly.

QuoteKeithNacho It shoul be nice to re-release the album with no edits. The Rocks Off thing is terrible, it rined the whole album. Once you listen that you do not want to hear more AT THE TIME a new album, rumored for fourth quarter, was said to be in the pipeline. Apparently, when it didn't come fruition in time for Holiday gift giving, Live Licks was quickly cobbled together using a lot

When LIVE LICKS came out we had a pretty robust discussion here regarding the shameless edits thereon, notably "Rocks Off." I was even able to get Bob Clearmountain to go back and forth with me, via email, on the title. Oddly enough, he had prepared the marvelous, guitars forward mastering but hadn't actually listened to what he was given all the way through. Hence, he didn't

The 1994 Virgin remasters are superior in every way to the 2009 UNI, made for MP3, 'remasters.' They are still easily available, mostly in used bins and online. The 2002 SACD hybrids of the ABKCO era are the penultimate. They are getting scarce, however.

Quotejamesfdouglas I don't own Grr, and don't plan on it. But from what I've read here, if you have the 1994 Virgin releases and the 2002 ABKCO releases, you're good. Yes and yes. The 'edited' songs are single versions so they are legit. Most have been unavailable since '40 Licks' went out of print.

QuoteMax'sKansasCity She asked me why the singer's name was Alice I said Listen baby, you really wouldn't understand Made loud to play LOUD! We had a drink or two... well maybe three Indeed. There is like NO production extras on that record at all. Just a dirty rock band recorded in the raw.

Quotekowalski Instead of an iPod, how about putting your music on a multimedia hard drive or digital media player? Indeed. And then you really need one of these to upgrade the sound. They are amazing. I put together the same concept except I've got a laptop holding hours and days of boot stuff, Stones and otherwise, as well as other incidental music I don't want taking up space

He sang great and moved great but he sure as hell was nervous. His onstage banter was the most halting and stammering I ever remember. I noticed it in Brooklyn and he was the same way a week later on TV.

I saw the '97 opener in Chicago. The bridge wasn't finished yet so the Stones had to trot out to the B-stage while at audience level. Mick was nervous but the mini-set (Last Time, Let It Bleed, forgot the other) was just stunning. Bear in mind, nobody'd really seen them do that yet.
