I was really disappointed with this album when I came out, and it hasn't grown on me. I think the main reason that I don't love this album is not that it didn't measure up to the albums before it, so much as it was the first time the Stones started to repeat themselves, instead of reaching out for something new, At the time, that hit me with Dancing with Mr. D. While it had a

Not terrible. It doesn't break new ground. (I also here a bit of "Don't Stop" in here.) But it's a Stones song.

Or stay at the Hilton, which is a few blocks from the Prudential Center, and right next to the train station. You can get into Manhattan in 20 minutes, and spend any free time there. Your hotel will be in safe walking distance to the concert (at least safe right before and after the concert).

I saw Blondie with the Beach Boys. This was the period when the influence of Carl Wilson was at its peak, before the Endless Summer compilation and 15 Big Ones turned them into a nostalgia act. Carl took the Beach Boys into a more soulful direction. They played a lot of Pet Sounds and Smile-era music in those concerts, and Blondie and Ricky Fataar gave them a harder edge. Blondie didn&#

Damn. I was looking for $150 tickets. The best I pulled just now was 14th row, Ronnie's side, for $480. No thanks. Sigh.

Look at exactly what Ticketmaster said. Tickemaster may not move tickets between the sites. But the promoter may. The act may. The agent may. An affiliate of Ticketmaster may. Etc. It's a very carefully worded denial.

To me it kind of sounds like Rough Justice, except not as catchy. (Now, let's see if I can post this on 6 other threads.)

There are supposed to be four shareholders -- Mike, Brian, Al, and Carl's estate. I haven't seen any reports on the length of Mike's license, or whether it is revocable.

Sort of like the Beach Boys (though I don't think Mick will be taking out a Rolling Stones cover band without Keith after the first 50 dates).

5. "I'm the lead singer of the Beach Boys." No, the real Beach Boys always had at least two lead singers -- Love and either Brian or Carl Wilson (or both). Part of what was special was the play of the two voices against each other in almost every song, along with the blend of the group. Since Carl's death, until this tour, there was only one of those voices in Mike

A few of the many thoughts about why Mike's current story is misleading, at best. 1. Pet Sounds wasn't the issue, as much as Smile. He doesn't deny that he hated Smile and didn't back it. 2. He could have arranged to go on with the others, either without or with a break. He doesn't want to share the stage. 3. He wrote some of the songs with Brian, but not al

There's an unconfirmed report on the shidoobee board that the Stones are in France rehearsing. I'd be really bummed if that is true. I flew back from Paris Friday to the States, after a week vacation. I checked this board a couple of times this past week to see if -- by any off chance -- the Stones were rehearsing in Paris and the location was known. I would have taken a day of my t

Mike doesn't own the trademark. It's owned by Brother Records. I think that Al, Carl's estate, Brian, Mike, and maybe Denny's estate own Brother (or some affiliated entity). Mike has a license agreement to use the Beach Boys name for his shows. I'm not sure how long the license lasts. There was litigation several years ago between Mike and Al because Al wanted to

My own hunch is that this may be about insurance. The recent articles about the withdrawal of an insurance claim by Michael Jackson's promoter, AEG, suggest that (a) you have to demonstrate health to get insurance for concerts, (b) promoters really want insurance before they book a large number of events, and (c) the industry, having been burned in the Michael Jackson case, will be looking

I suspect that the latest digital technology is capable of delivering a good and involving musical result via both digital media and on tranfer to vinyl. The problem is the required skills and willingness to do it...which sadly appear to be long lost. A digital source will never have the complete range of sound that an analog source will on a good vinyl pressing. It can be good and i

What would message boards have said about the White Album? They would have said it was an awesome cover, great insert pictures of the guys, three great sides worth of stuff, but did we really need Revolution No. 9, and is that Yoko's fault, but . . . .

It is true that the Beach Boys put out a very good new album this year that, while it doesn't stand up to their greatest work, was surprisingly good. And they followed it up with an excellent tour. And, G-d only knows, their personal relationships have been way worse than the Stones -- Mick and Keith never sued each other. Let's hope something more is coming from the Glimmers.

Hmmm. Rollingstone.com still doesn't have this story up. Wenner probably got it, embargoed, weeks ago. I bet he has to get clearance from Mick even though it's run elsewhere.
