The '78 show even had Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue in the press box just above us. A friend shouted to Phil that his mother loved him, to which Phil waved and smiled.

An odd debate, as many bands with all or almost all original members consider themselves cover bands of their younger versions. We saw The Yardbirds a few years ago with the original rhythm section to kill some time at a festival and, after a couple of songs, we realized we were seeing a very good cover band which we quite enjoyed. This also happened with Foghat; in fact, a recent festival show w

Saw the Chicago show and it was amazing. Throwing in 10...1 in its entirety was incredible, given the complex arrangements and instrumentation. While Garrett is front and center, the entire band was spot on.

Last time we saw him was at Legends and the place was packed, possibly since The Stones were in town for a show the next night. Great set, ending with an announcement that The Rolling Stones were not and would not be in attendance. RIP, harp man

I talked my wife into seeing one of his '08 Dublin shows. She was mesmerized. We enjoyed two more of his shows (Chi. and Milw.) which were also incredible experiences. Then he leaves us with the gift of You Want It Darker. Thank you Leonard; Ní bheidh/bheadh a leithéid ann arís.

Of course, a precursor of this was used in 1975 for outdoor shows, including Milwaukee (note beer barrel, giant beer mug and chalet behind stage - yup, Wisconsin)

Saw him a week ago and it was one of his best shows over the forty+ year span of seeing his shows. Tight band, great fx, and plenty of (gallows) humor.

The flip: about ten years ago, I was working on a Sat. at a book bindery where the local classic rock station was aired over the shop floor. The owner, a great gentleman in his late seventies/early eighties at the time, was a music fan and we often talked about performers like Artie Shaw and Duke Ellington. Well, the radio station aired Monkey Man and Mr. Bud was aghast, "What is that noise!

Needless to say, it left me 'gobsmacked' and frustrated. I did tell him they are still together and they are VERY GOOD! but he balked and mumble something about someone I had never heard of. So, after dumping on him for not knowing The Stones, you do the same thing about the music he likes. Ignorance can come in all shapes, sizes, and ages.

Journey in 1978 was the first band at a baseball stadium show and were horrendous. Two weeks later, they were entertaining (probably because Chicago was a Journey town at that point) in the slot before the Stones at Soldier Field. The all time yuk would have to be The Grateful Dead in '77. Band PA was so low, you could hear the crowd blather during songs - most people felt the same way about
