The flip: about ten years ago, I was working on a Sat. at a book bindery where the local classic rock station was aired over the shop floor. The owner, a great gentleman in his late seventies/early eighties at the time, was a music fan and we often talked about performers like Artie Shaw and Duke Ellington. Well, the radio station aired Monkey Man and Mr. Bud was aghast, "What is that noise!

Needless to say, it left me 'gobsmacked' and frustrated. I did tell him they are still together and they are VERY GOOD! but he balked and mumble something about someone I had never heard of. So, after dumping on him for not knowing The Stones, you do the same thing about the music he likes. Ignorance can come in all shapes, sizes, and ages.

Journey in 1978 was the first band at a baseball stadium show and were horrendous. Two weeks later, they were entertaining (probably because Chicago was a Journey town at that point) in the slot before the Stones at Soldier Field. The all time yuk would have to be The Grateful Dead in '77. Band PA was so low, you could hear the crowd blather during songs - most people felt the same way about

It was an incredible show last night in Milw., full of inspired moments: Jake's sax solo during Jungleland, Nils spinning guitar solo during Because the Night and Bruce into and above the audience. The stories gave context to the album and the band's relationship with Milwaukee going back to the bomb scare show ("Are you loose?). The only problem is many newbies will be unfamiliar

Quotehot stuff Used it in the 2 shows I saw in Philly. I think it was used at every tour in America. Didn't close and open at every show if I remember right. BEST STAGE EVER.Not used in Milw.

Just finished watching the pilot and enjoyed it despite some "holes" (my fave was the Dolls/Slade thing since I remember Creem's tendency to compare the two on a USA/UK vibe). The scene with zep going onstage reminded me of almost taking the steps onstage before an usher (nicely) pointed me in the right way to my seat at the old Chicago Stadium for the JP sickness show in '77

On the other hand, we won't be around forever (well, I will - somebody has to keep Keef company), so why not take a dance with other acts? We saw All Them Witches a week ago and they were fun, as were Bully, Lucero, and Birdcloud. All enjoyable in their own way and band members like to talk to codgers like us who have been around the block.

Caught him this past weekend as well, on Sun. night. Another fine performance with good stories to boot. We've done the long haul before, so decided to get there around 7. Standing room, of course, but right at the edge of the tables. Buddy played a two hour set with a good mix of songs, even though my wife isn't a big fan of medleys (sniglets is my bride's term for them).

Quotecrholmstrom Packers sure are a whiny bunch. That was a fantastic game. The NE/KC game not so much. Hope we get 2 good ones today. Whiny? They played a good game and almost won on the road against a tough team. Nothing to whine about. Now you want whiny, check out the boo hoo when the Seaturkeys lose

Quotecrholmstrom Definitely a fan friendly band. I seem to gravitate toward bands like that. For instance, they allow taping at their shows with few restrictions. & keep their costs down for music, tshirts, tickets to realistic levels. I do not love spending $35-40 for a tshirt. Some other bands that operate in a similar way that are amongst my faves are Wilco & the Flaming Lips. I really

The band members, past and present, have always been friendly to fans. Fave Cooley songs would be Daddy's Cup, Birthday Boy, Carl Perkins, Space City, Where the Devil, 72, Checkout Time and Whiskey w/o Women. What about Hood songs? Living Bubba, Sinkhole, Pauline Hawkins, Drag the Lake, Ronnie and Neil, Steven McQueen, etc. Jason and Shonna also have tossed in their share of great tunes. Sup

The White Buffalo is another dandy. We caught him twice in Sept. and were blown away both times. First time we saw him was a couple of years ago at a Harleyfest and we had no idea who he was (never really watched Sons of Anarchy), but we had some time to fill. He came on and it was "Oh my!" He can go from upbeat rock to spooky death dirges in quick succession. That Harleyfest also fea

Great live set, good sound and nice overview of their career. Saw last week in Memphis where they put on an incendiary show and will see them in two weeks. My favorite "new" band for some time now, very few bring it like DBT. Jason wasn't fired, he was ready to go solo when he left, much like his ex-wife, Shonna Tucker. There is a recording of a great acoustic set by Jason, Patter

Actually another act usually does the acoustic set based on the 20 years we've done a Jan. show, including this year. If you go and want a seat get there when the doors open - the seats are gobble up fast and if you're late, you are kept behind and to the sides of the seating area. Good policy: if you are willing to do the long haul you should have precedence over late arrivals who want
