QuoteHis Majesty QuoteMathijs ... on CCC it is Jack Nitzsche on piano, as Hopkins did not do a session with the Stones before 1967. Mathijs It's most likely Stu on piano. It's got a minor chord in there somewhere. Is the Stu statement "I don't play minor chords" actually true, or was he just putting us on? Or maybe "Okay, just this once." There's cl

The 1975 lotus stage that unfolded was the best ever. As I've said before, you had to see that thing to believe it. It was awesome to see. I also like the outdoor design for 1978; something about it always appealed to me. I understand why they did the huge stages from Steel Wheels to whenever; it was necessary for the times, and it eventually got kind of silly, at least to me. However, the

Get Down (1973) was a great AM-radio single. Very McCartney-like. Great record.

Regarding of what they could hear onstage: They were using Vox AC-100 amps. I don't know if any of you have stood in front of one, but I have, and let me tell you: they're loud! Really loud. So I think they could hear something onstage. What the audience heard is a different story. Comparing it to what's available today is rather moot. In Atlanta 1965, they did have a primitive mo

Quotetatters No one, probably not even the surviving Beatles themselves, seems to remember that they also played there (with 10,000 of the 55,000 seats empty) on August 23, 1966. Funny you should mention that, because in the Anthology, George says he can't remember playing Shea twice. Promoter Sid Bernstein blamed the empty seats in 1966 because the also played stadiums in Philadelphia, W

There's one from 1982 where he says, "And on guitar and drink, Ron Wood." However, I never understood his intro of Ian McLagan on the 1978 tour as usually "Mac from the Small Faces." It always sounded to me a bit disrespectful; as if, who cares? Most American audiences at that time had no idea who the Small Faces were or that McLagan was in them.

Quotestonehearted QuotemosthighI like the 'tea room music' they play just before a live version of 'Hey Jude' on The David Frost Show, 1968. They did have their guitars on for the 'tea room music', but on the performance of Hey Jude only Paul's mic was live; the backing track comes from the studio version. It's actually a tune written by George Martin c

QuoteMathijs Quotetomk If I remember the story correctly, Keith's original was a prototype which was later stolen or lost, and the replacements were not as good. This is about the Dan Armstrong he used from 1969 until 1971, which has a prototype pickup. Stolen in July 1971, and replaced for the early 1972 shows and abandoned ever since. Mathijs No, he said this about the MM Silo. Wh

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteGasLightStreet Quotethegreenmanalishi Does anyone know Keiths basic rig for those late 80's gigs? Was he hitting a pedal on the SFD and GS lead work? A Marshall head was the source for the leads in Sad Sad Sad etc. Only at the US leg? I don't think KR or RW have had a pedal onstage since 81/82.

Quoteaudun-eg In the video from the Guitar Legends show in Sevilla '92 you can see and hear the high E-string gets stuck in the fret ends, so Keith has to pull it out. A guitarplayer needs his tools to be flawless and work smoothly all the time. Obviously the Silhouette didn't, so out the window it went. Can't say I blame him. Watch from about 4:10 in this video of Going Down:

If I remember the story correctly, Keith's original was a prototype which was later stolen or lost, and the replacements were not as good. I've had two Silhouettes , and I think they're excellent guitars, the one's like KR and Wood used. I've always thought KR was attracted to it because the neck is similar to the Dan Armstrong.

QuoteHis Majesty No recording took place in September 1966. He hadn't even been asked to write music for the film at that point. An error that keeps getting repeated. It's most likely all recording took place over a few sessions in February 1967. Really hope the soundtrack gets a proper release some day. Copyright might have run out on it in 2017, but probably runs out in 20

I have my sister's mono LP from 1967 (US), and that's my go-to version. It can't be beat, really. All of her Beatles LPs, which I have, were mono (I don't think she knew the difference, she just grabbed), and they still sound incredible, despite all these years. I was playing her Beatles 65 the other day. Fantastic. Even with all that reverb.

Jazz. It's only been the last five years or so that I've really gotten into it. My wife and I went to the Monterey Jazz Festival last year and the time of our lives. I'm just sorry I never paid more attention to the genre years earlier. Better late than never.

It's what turned me on to the band. When I played my original vinyl copy last year, I noticed that it was pretty worn out. So guess what my wife got me for Christmas? A vinyl GHS. It's not that funny, is it?! Sorry, could resist that one. The last interview I read/saw with LB was before those FM/Eagles stadium gigs (was that last year?), and he said he wasn't looking forward to them and was just doing it for the cash (with a wink). Since Tusk, he's always tried to be to cool for school for this band, trying too hard to be the black sheep. Sometimes

QuoteGazza How would you get a deluxe of Tattoo You when it was almost entirely made up of unfinished songs from previous albums and where Jagger did most of his vocals on his own in a studio in Paris? There could be alternate vocal and mixes that were done. And there may be other songs Kimsey picked that didn't make the final cut. Kimsey would have the best answer for that. Keep in mi

You have to give a thumb's-up to Chris Kimsey, and Jagger, for resurrecting the tune for Tattoo You, putting the vocals on, editing it down, getting Sonny Rollins and all that. Keith didn't do it, Kimsey and Jagger did.

Quoteduke richardson Quotefilstan Quoteduke richardson the reference to Keith is bad, in this. Whitlock says he (Whitlock) played the electric piano on 'Just Wanna See His Face' without coming right out and saying it... is that right, am I reading it right..? Interesting Duke that in Whitlock's book he talks about the sessions when JWSHF was recorded, and he did not mention
