Toronto 2 - MY chance to see Stones with Mick Taylor. CYHMK was not one of the better ones but MR was. Plus Woody was great. Best time I ever saw them since Wyman left.

QuoteAquamarine Quoteslew JamesfDouglas is spot off Freddie Mercury in no way is better than Mick Jagger. he has a better voice technically and that is where it ends. They're both amazing frontmen/showmen, with different styles. One doesn't have to be better than the other. Add Springsteen to the trinity, too! Freddie Mercury may have been a great frontman but unfortunately h

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteJustin I can't say I'm surprised by most of the comments here because most of these comments reek of typical "classic rock" mentality. In a genre comprised mainly of guitar heroes/gods, it's no surprise why Presley is generally misunderstood to most classic rock fans. The lack of songwriting, the crappy 60's movies, Vegas and whatever f

QuoteEddieByword I don't think that photo of Mick coming out of the restaurant did him a disservice. Lou Reed once wrote "there's a bit of good in everything". Rightly or wrongly over the decades Mick has had to wear the reputation of a "take or leave it - heartbreaking heart of stone". The report that he had tears rolling down his face in the restaurant an

Taylor isn't a Rolling Stone. Oh yes he is. Agreed. Keith said he was in 2012 when asked if Taylor would be invited to rehearsals.

Quoteliddas Frank's purpose was to provide a point of view that would balance the flashy "superstar" public image of the Stones. To do so he chose the form of documentary, but the film is not at all an "objective" account of the STP. Keith's comment on the use of black and white is spot on: B&W does add drama. C Peter Rudge commented in the Bob Spitz book ab

Quoteflilflam I nearly threw up listening to Howard Stern just talk about seeing the Hyde Park concert on Showtime over the holidays. He sounded exactly like the average fan Mick Jagger must be painfully aware of. Howard said the setlist was fantastic, with hit after hit. Howard has said in the past he hates it when groups play anything but their most known songs. He went on to say it was great t

Jack White works like Bob Dylan does. He even uses tape in the digital era because it makes the band concentrate on the performance knowing it can't be fixed later.

I think the original idea behind this post is accurate. In fact in 72 Jagger said "We're not very hard working really. Some bands stay on the road all the time. The Stones played 250 gigs in the seventies. The Who and Led Zep had similar numbers. Some musicians romanticize the time spent on the road but in the seventies they made sure demand was bigger than supply.

I cannot add GHS to any essential list primarily because I really think Dancing With Mr. D is pretty bad. I like the early Brussels version and all that but I think that song is one of the weakest Stones opening songs ever. Put Criss Cross in its place and I am more open to including GHS as an album I really love but I can't get past that opening song on the album as is.

There was a book by Jimmy Guterman Greatest Rock & Roll Records (Every Picture Tells A Story is #1) Exile is #3. He says Keith Richards proves he is the greatest backing vocalist in rock n roll history on Exile because he is the only vocalist to sing in several keys at once. Great quote. Captures the essence of what the Exile Keith vocals sound like.

QuoteChris Fountain I prefer the Tots sound over Hunter & Wagner because their vesions seem to sound closer to the studio versions and still provide ample & respectable lead guitar. Obviously, H & W can tear down the building with guitars as the forefront. However, the mood has to be correct in order to listen. Don't get me wrong, I love R & R Animal/ LR Live and listened

I'm tempted to say its a compilation, because what are the chances he would play Kill Your Sons, Romeo Had Juliet, Ecstacy, and The Blue Mask all in one show? Seems like thats too big of a collection which he rarely did. Does it sound like a compilation since you've dow

I think there is a case to be made that of all the sixties icons that made music in the 1980s, Lou Reed had the best decade. Growing Up In Public may not be that great but beginning with The Blue Mask (my favourite song is The Gun on that record), Lou had a great run (Mistrial excepted). Agreed Fernando Saunders makes Legendary Hearts sound great (The Last Shot my fave). New Sensations is a great

I need to book a train home. The 'Retarded Tour of Europe' took place in 1991. Most people though just assumed he was plastered. He's been mostly compos mentis since the mid 90s.

Bob Dylan's Too Much To Ask. Surely the thread means that the phrase has not shown up in the song until the end so Virginia Plain qualifies but many of the others do not.

Absolutely ridiculous that Warren Zevon is not even on the ballot. The Replacements were a great band and at seven albums I can understand why people don't think their career was substantial enough but if you are talking about rock 'n' roll attitude, The Replacements fit the bill. I saw them open for Tom Petty in 1989 at Canada's Wonderland outside Toronto. They went on record
