As a guitarist, he was not a flashy Van Halen type soloist, but the man could rock a riff with the best of them. Here's a link to an article that really sums up what he was all about. J. Geils, the Prototypical All-Around Guitarist

Man, this is painful. I wore out my copies of Bloodshot, Nightmares and Blow Your Face Out when I was in school. Time to pour a strong one and listen to Full House at full blast.

Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Journey, Steely Dan and more have all been confirmed to perform at new festival ‘The Classic’. Full dates and ticket details are below. Rumours and reports of the new event emerged earlier this month, but now Fleetwood Mac have confirmed that they’ll be performing at the festival alongside The Doobie Brothers and Eart, Wind & Fire. They will perform at the Cla

Going from memory here, but in the BBC broadcast from 1971 I think he uses open E tuning on Stay With Me and Love in Vain. Maybe some others as well, but I have not watched it in awhile. Outstanding performance - Faces in all their glory.

I went about a month ago on a Monday afternoon ($30 tickets) and spent about 3 hours in the exhibit itself, but there was not much of a crowd at that time. As DEmerson said, it depends on how much time you want to spend reading the various descriptions. I spent a lot of time looking at the vintage instruments, stage outfits and album covers, and not so much listening to Don Was talking about th

We were headed out the door to an activity of some sort at my kid's school and I frantically searched for a blank cassette to pop into the VHS to record this off of MTV. I didn't get a chance to watch it until a couple days later, and Out of Control blew me away. It was a much longer version than they play now, with Mick crazy dancing all over the stage and a screaming wah-wah solo fr

I believe 'Shot of Salvation' also has Brown Sugar. At the end of the song, Mick says 'Hello Newcastle, are you alright?' or something like that.

I've always liked the guitar/keyboard interplay on the Making Movies album, especially on Skateaway and Expresso Love. Producer Jimmy Lovine brought in the Professor, Roy Bittan, and he and Knopler meshed nicely.

I sensed this could be a great show when Keith practically ran to the front of the stage after the introduction, then paused briefly as if to soak it all in before launching into JJF with a huge grin on his face. I was 8 rows back on his side, and I saw that grin a lot the rest of the show. No one was sitting down in my area except the guy next to me who had some back problems and had to sit oc

I was at the Houston show as well and thought it was great. Agree with the comments about Joan Jett, excellent opener. Pete was in good spirits, telling stories etc, and the banter between him and Roger is entertaining. He still drives the band and his fingers are quite nimble for someone about to turn 70. They may be war horses, but I really enjoyed Magic Bus and My Generation, especially

Fingers crossed that Slip Kid stays in the setlist. For me, that would be like seeing the Stones perform something like No Expectations or Ventilator Blues, etc.

Thanks for the report Simon. I hope that set list lasts til next April in the States. With the double whammy of both Bobby and Ian passing this week, I am even more appreciative that Pete and Roger are still chugging along after 50 yrs. I've never been a Who fanatic, but I can't imagine my life without their music.

"Flash of gold in your ears, child Flash of gold in your eyes Saw the gleam in your mouth Saw the steel in your thighs" I have no idea if this is right, I copied it from a lyric site. I never could understand what Mick was singing anyway, even though I wore out the grooves on the record when I bought it.

Thanks Deltics. That's one of the more unusual edited versions, but I seem to remember an alternate studio version, maybe in a lower key. Maybe I have it confused with another song.

Listening to Goats Head Soup Reheated and I seem to remember a thread on here a while back that had a link to an alternate version of Star Star. Does that ring a bell with anyone? Maybe I'm just losing my mind, but I've searched here and on Youtube but can't find anything. Any help is appreciated.

I posted this in the Petty thread, but I saw the show last week and Winwood was fantastic. His voice is as vibrant as ever and he sings all of the old classics in the original key. I wish he would have played more than one hour. Before the show I could see him standing by the side of the stage, casually talking to some people. If you didn't know him, you could easily assume he was a road

Saw Petty's show a couple nights ago. I sometimes forget what a stash of hits this guy has - on stage for two hours and the set list didn't even include such radio staples as Listen to Her Heart, Breakdown, The Waiting, I Need to Know & Don't Do Me Like That. Great party atmosphere with the crowd dancing and singing to most every song. You usually see the word underrated whe
