First of all, my answer to the question of the original poster is no. But...I also really love Tommy James. Just finished his new book called "Me, the Mob and the Music" which I would highly recommend. It doesn't go really deep into details (225 pages), but enough that you get pretty much the entire story of Tommy James and the Shondells. And the Mob. By the way he's still roc

QuoteNickB Quotetrainarollin Who are the Drive-By Truckers ? Probably one of the best bands ever. Really good live. Mike Cooley is the new Keith. I can't recommend them highly enough. Just a great ethic when it comes to recording and songwriting and playing. A must listen to / see band. Nick - I've heard great things about DBT, but I don't have any of their stuff. What CDs woul

QuoteElmo Lewis I play guitar and a little piano. Not a pro, but play some paying gigs during the summers. A fool on a stool - I call it EagleBeatleBuffettStones music. More for fun than money. Have a 15 year old son that's awesome though. He's got Zep, Hendrix, etc. covered. He's my lottery ticket! Taking him to see Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes next month. Sounds like me, E

QuoteNikolai It was a lot better than I thought it would be. Roger's voice held up fine, but The Who's songs aren't really suited to the medley treatment. 'Best halftime show ever?' No, sorry. That was Prince. While I enjoyed Prince, Stones, The Who and Bruce...in my opinion Tom Petty put on the best halftime show.

QuoteNo Expectations Wouldn't root for the Yankees if they were the only team playing. Hopefully Phils will be the first NL team to repeat since the Big Red Machine in 75/76. Happy Pete gets a second ring. (Giants reference) Big Phillies fan here. I was at Game 4 last night. Devastating loss for the home team. Yanks will be tough to beat. Oh...I picked up on the Happy Pete reference. Al

Slightly OT, but do any of the guitarists here know what model Takamine Jagger is playing in the Toronto 1989 video?

It seems as if the audiophiles and purists are anti-iPod and the "convenience factor" folks are pro. Count me in the later group. While the iPod compromises somewhat on the full sound there's something to be said for carrying around your entire collection in your pocket. Before posting I just checked mine. I have an 80gig model. Among countless other artists, my iPod has 1,252

QuoteGazza QuoteElmo Lewis Thanks. I wasn't aware of Max's son coming on board. Only for a few (unspecified) shows. My guess it'll be the first couple of weeks of the Euro leg while Max is needed in LA from June 1st for the start of Conan O'Brien's new-look "Tonight" show. The ESB have a couple of weeks off from June 14 before they return to Europe and play Gl

Gazza Like a few others, he has a near "encyclopedic" knowledge of Stones stuff. But unlike some others, he has a knack for cutting through the BS and getting to the heart of the matter. The fact that he's also a Springsteen and Dylan fan is a major plus of course.

Quotescottkeef Quotemr edward Boring song. At least for anyone not from Texas. They've recorded plenty of decent country songs themselves, perform on of those! If you choose to play a cover song, play a tasty one. This is a pastiche. Just a thought-dont ya think the song selection might have had something to do with the fact they were performing IN Austin,Tex. I'm sure it had somethin

I just happened to have watched this DVD last night. Absolutely love this song. I think the combo of "Bob Wills is Still the King" and "Learning the Game" at this show is just amazing. But then, that's probably why the show was included in the Bigger Bang DVD set.

QuoteCousinC Thanx for that Aaronson story! Another one from the list . . Interesting stuff! It's a bit like in 74. They kinda knew from the beginning who they were aiming for. But neverless they fooled around a bit and tried a few others . . Glad to contribute. As I mentioned, he told me the entire story of the audition. The best part was...he gets a phone call while in the shower.

A guy named Kenny Aaronson was one of the bassists who auditioned. He currently plays with John Eddie, a local (New Jersey) artist I've followed for the better part of 20 years. Kenny told me the entire story once after one of their gigs. He said it was the coolest experience of his life, and he has quite a resume, as the attached link details. The link below also has a picture taken with Ke

Not sure what to really make of it. I think the whole concept of sound engineering on a scale as large as the production of the Super Bowl halftime show is beyond the comprehension of most of us. Take "Born to Run" for example. There were three electric guitars, two acoustic guitars, a bass guitar, piano, organ, saxophone, drums, plus a horn section. That's a lot of happy rock n ro

Quotedrewmaster I wonder if he will lip-sync? Apparently, there are reports that Petty's show was lip-synched, while the Stones and Prince were the real deal. What do you guys think? Drew Petty was NOT lip-synched. Many INCORRECTLY pointed out that he appeared to lip synch during Free Falling. Here's the deal: The chorus (the "Freeeeeee Faalllllin" part) is sung an octave
