QuoteEleanor Rigby A nice full concert video of Pittsburgh would be nice..:-) Get in touch with this guy Pittsburgh Post Gazette January 21, 2007 Pat Murphy, Hidden Valley, Pennsylvania ... The second memory occurred on July 22, 1972 when I attended a Rolling Stones concert at the Civic Arena. Having a super 8 mm movie camera in hand, a friend and I managed to work our way behind the s

QuoteHis Majesty Hyde Park and Ya-Ya's have been the only really generally available, officially released Taylor era live stuff until fairly recently. The movie Gimme Shelter was rebroadcast on PBS stations regularly. Probably at least as "generally available officially" as Hyde Park, and much more so before the VHS era. There also were midnight showings of Stones movie

QuoteDandelionPowderman Keep in mind that the Mayall tours were fitness camps, compared to a Stones tour. Mayall didn't drink, and expected sobriety from his musicians, according to Claptions bio. What's the point? The fact remains he had done more touring during that time. There is only speculation that he was not tour rugged. By the way, "expected sobriety" see

QuoteDoomandGloom Smokey, That is 3 months so there's no point made. I was trying to be polite in my assessment of why Taylor left and the dreary condition he was in by the time he exited.. After all the cancellation of tour plans should have opened him to other projects including his own, all this without quitting, according to Keith himself... Instead he made some token contributions with

QuoteDoomandGloom Mick T. was not a rugged touring guy like the rest of the group. What does this mean? He had toured far more than the Stones from '67-'69. Those tours lasted weeks or months with shows on many consecutive days of the tour (typically two shows per night) and crossing the UK, Europe and the USA. Factual info is readily available at www.nzentgraf.de. 690221A 21

QuoteMathijs QuoteFP Any idea who plays what on Brown Sugar? Richards plays all guitars. Taylor's original part as can be heard on the outtakes, have been removed completely for the released track. What you hear is about five Keith parts. Left is the original open G track from Muscle Shoals, right is a rhtyhm track by Richards that is composed from three or 4 tracks. There's 2 guitars

Quotekleermaker Indeed, two exceptions to the rule. I don't know any more by heart (if there are any). In Wild Horses, the opening acoustic is in Taylor's channel. I recall hearing a version that started center and panned to Taylor's channel but cannot locate it now. It's been a while since I listened to Sticky Fingers, but my recollection is that Richards is in

QuoteRobberBride QuoteStoneburst Most if not all of the band members have suggested that it was a spontaneous, one-take thing at some point or another, presumably to feed the song's undeniable mystique. It obviously isn't: the changes are far too carefully worked out, and that isn't how the Stones played anyway. Concur. It sounds way too worked out.I have never ever believed it b

QuoteMathijs QuoteFP Any idea who plays what on Brown Sugar? Live in 1972 and 1973 Taylor would play very close to his original rhythm track, which is a tremelo picked guitar. Mathijs Rather than the "I hear it"/"I hear it not" thing, you can see in both CS Blues and the Dick Cavett Show during the third verse, Taylor appears to be playing a "Berry-like rhythm"

This means that Taylor is not on the official version of Rip This Joint. What's the source for Taylor's absence at the LA overdub sessions for Exile? He appears in the Robert Frank video footage, which was reported by Frank to be from the time of the overdub sessions, not the tour.

Quotekleermaker Exile coulda been so much stronger when Taylor had been used more, and not per se solos or lead guitar, but bits and fills too. The "Nicky Hopkins" outtakes have Taylor's unedited parts for Rocks Off and Rip This Joint. For those two songs, I prefer some of the versions on the '72 American and '73 European tours.

QuoteRockman Interview with Jagger on "I Wrote It In My Garden": Happy. That's the one that Keith sings. We wrote the words in Los Angeles. It's a happy song. You know, it's very bouncy. And I think Keith sings it quite well.

QuoteHis Majesty Note the levels of the guitars and sax change throughout the concert, th sax gets boosted so much because it is so reliant on the mixer/pa for it's volume. I think it's very likley that all the guitars are loud onstage, but that Taylor has been mic'd up and is going through the soundboard mix as well. His sound is too direct sounding and fluctuating like the others

QuoteFuman2 The guitar that many believe to be Mick Taylor sounds clear as though it is from the soundboard. Yet another reason I don't think it is Taylor playing. Doesn't the solo at 1:16:33 sound both like only Taylor and dry like a soundboard?
