49'ers vs. Patriots...Jimmy G's much anticipated return to New England! After last week's debacle vs. Denver, NE had a normal week of practice and will also be getting some key personnel back on the field for this game. As a result, most pundits expect the Patriots to come away with a 'W' but I'm not quite so confident, even if SF's roster has been wracked by

Just for you KevinM...a concert/hockey story: Saw Elton John, at the insistence of my then-girlfriend (was never a fan of his...nor her as it eventually turned out), at the Boston Garden in September 1973. Had to travel to Boston on a Saturday morning in order to buy tickets when they went on sale and those of us waiting in line were ushered into the Garden itself prior to the ticket windows o

Well, my greatest fear came to pass on Sunday: the Patriots looked like a team that hadn't practiced in a couple of weeks (they didn't) and played a sloppy and mistake-filled game against the Broncos as a result. Despite their unproductive play, they actually had a chance to steal this one in the final minute, thanks to some bonehead calls by Denver's offensive coordinator/coaching

I'll throw 'Tie You Up (The Pain of Love)' into the mix. May not be the "nastiest"...per se...but I feels it warrants consideration. For me, the overall sound of the recording gives it a bit of a rough, nasty edge that serves to embellish its' subject matter; it's a perfect marriage.

Hello Chris... Don't want to hijack the thread but since you brought up Lajoie and Hartnett, I thought I'd mention ex-Brooklyn/LA Dodger pitcher Clem Labine, who was born in Lincoln, RI, but grew up in Woonsocket. My Dad, who spent some time in the minor leagues (Cardinals), had played some ball with Clem. After Clem retired from baseball, he returned to Woonsocket where he worke

Greetings from a fellow Rhode Islander Chris! I lived in Woonsocket until moving to the San Diego area back in 1981. Ah...Pawtucket. I used to work at the Star Market on Barton Street back in the day. It's a shame the Red Sox chose to abandon McCoy Stadium; went to a few games there myself. Also spent some time shopping at APEX too. Before relocating to California, I saw quite a few show

Good stuff...well done...I like it. The uptempo treatment gives the song a totally different feel from what I'm accustomed to but it works nonetheless.

Finally! Broncos-Patriots...unless same-day test results reveal more COVID-19 exposure. Melvin Gordon and Noah Fant out for Denver; Cam Newton and Stephon Gilmore back for NE, who are heavily favored. Only thing that could possibly derail the Patriots would be some rust due to their inability to get any meaningful time on the practice field over the past couple of weeks, resulting in less-tha

I immediately questioned Minnesota's decision to try to pick up the first down when they could have kicked the FG to give them an 8-point lead with two minutes to play. Even had they has missed, Seattle would have taken over at exactly the same spot on the field. Was Zimmer that concerned about screwing up because of a wet football? Bad call on his part which ultimately cost them the game. S

According to what I heard the other day, the NFL does not want players intermingling once the game is over. Therefore, I'm curious if the league made a point of reminding teams and players about this guideline after Stephon Gilmore and Pat Mahomes were seen having a helmet-to-helmet conversation following Monday night's NE-KC game. Just conjecture on my part, as I'm prone to giv

I feel the Bears were fortunate to win tonight after totally mismanaging the clock in the final two minutes. Made no sense to me whatsoever. However, despite the additional 30 seconds gifted to him, Brady then channeled his best Brian Hoyer impersonation by being unaware of what down it was. God one Tom. Wouldn't be fair to overlook the Bears' defense on that final series though; the

Without a doubt...Bill. Listening to the Stones' older albums, I sure do miss his rumbling bass and can't help but wonder what the 'newer' material might have sounded like had he been laying down the 'bottom' rather than Daryl Jones. Same holds true for the bands' live performances. While Taylor's departure definitely changed the dynamics and sound of th

Yes, the game was played under trying circumstances, but a lack of practice time cannot be blamed for Hoyer's glaring mental errors: the sack prior to the end of the first half and the sack/fumble in the third quarter in a similar third down situation were inexcusable. This guy has been around for a dozen years yet made two costly mistakes, ones you'd expect from a rookie or second-

Such a frustrating game tonight; Patriots basically beat themselves...thanks to Brian Hoyer's total ineptitude...and their failure to hang onto sure-fire INTs (McCourty, Jackson) as well as routine pass completions (Edelman). The defense did all Patriots' fans could have hoped for...for three quarters...which really is a testament to Bill Belichick's ability to implement game p

Looks like the Patriots-Chiefs game is 'ON' as no further positive COVID tests have arisen since Cam Newton's diagnosis on Friday. This was always going to be a tough test for NE, even with Newton behind center, but will be even more of a challenge with Brian Hoyer as the starting QB. I look for NE to try to establish the running game in order to buy some time for Hoyer to thro

Guess I'll have to hold off on my Patriots-Chiefs preview now that Cam Newton has tested positive for COVID-19, resulting in the postponement of Sunday's game. Absolutely devastated to learn of this development and would not be surprised if more players/staff members test positive in the days to come...similar to the Titans' predicament. Game is tentatively slated to take place on

Yes...absolutely love 'Blue and Lonesome'! Yeah, the blues are pretty basic and somewhat repetitive, but I can literally listen to that stuff all day long. I had longed for such a release from the Stones for years and was thrilled when it became a reality. Love the way the album was recorded and, in my view, the song selection was just varied enough to keep it interesting. My only

Bit of an ugly Sunday for Cam Newton but, lo and behold, Rex Burkhead and Sony Michel inexplicably morphed into Jim Brown and Gale Sayers, leading the Patriots to a decisive win over the Raiders. Credit must also go to the O-Line for creating some wide open running lanes, not something we're used to seeing from NE. So we went from a QB who ran like crazy in Week 1, to a pass-happy QB in

Gale Sayers...The Kansas Comet...one of my all-time favorite players. Built more like a safety (6'0" 200 lbs.) than a running back, he was a truly dynamic talent whose career was, sadly, curtailed by injury. Will never forget the 6 TD performance vs. SF in 1965.

Brutal week for injuries, wasn't it? But I digress... Tremendously entertaining game Sunday night between NE and Seattle yet, despite the loss, I am encouraged with the way Cam Newton ran the offense and threw the ball. If the Patriots can continue to build upon his performance...and the fact that he distributed the ball among a long list of targets (something Brady was unwilling to do la

Crholmstrom... I'm also looking forward to Sunday's game with much anticipation, as I expect the Patriots' offensive scheme to be quite different compared to what I saw vs. Miami last week. Newton may still run the ball some 10-12 times but I expect to see an uptick in the passing game, despite the fact that NE's receiving corps, other than Edelman and James White, is unpro

Well, at least for the next week or so, Boston sports writers and radio hosts will be able to bask in the afterglow of a Patriots' victory and Tampa Bay loss. Brady faced a lot of criticism over his decision to leave NE so I expect more 'piling on' as these two games are disected and analyzed by the armchair QBs. Looking forward to hearing Felger and Mazz's hot takes tomo

The key to NE's success this season was on full display today: methodical, ball-control offense coupled with a stout defensive secondary. Newton wasn't required to do anything outside of his comfort zone and his running game definitely showed that this isn't Tom Brady's offense any more. Game really shouldn't have been as close as it got but the enigmatic N'Keal
