Quotetatters QuoteRokyfan I believe there's one from Miami beach from 64 when the Stones were on tour and Ali was in training for a fight and they visited his gym. . That was the Beatles. Some footage of the beating with the Meetles, meeting with the Beatles. Just before the meeting, John suggested that they not meet with Clay because he was a bigmouth and was going to lose, and th

QuoteKoen Which Stones records did he play on? Not Exile. While the Stones were recording and releasing Exile, Waddy was working the ocean liner circuit, playing on the SS Poseidon on its last voyage . . . Most musicians wouldn't survive a disaster at sea. Just goes to show that Waddy's got some kind of perseverance.

There are photographs of me working a portable turntable that looked like a suitcase as a 18 month old with these two albums (Canadian versions): I remember sitting in front of the turntable for what seemed like hours (even though I didn't know what an hour was), a baby DJ flipping them over and over again. Around the same time, I remember having my mind blown by the David Clark

QuoteHonkeyTonkFlash This is kind of interesting...at least our boys, the Stones still have 3.75! (Counting Woody as a 3/4 original!) "3/4 original"? Woody's not the schrodinger's cat of original band members. He's a replacement of a replacement

I think I'd rather play the KISS pinball for two hours. Less predictable and more balls. full disclosure: I dressed up as Gene for a grade 8 halloween party--it's hell carrying a bass around at a party.

Quotebuttons67 I never understood this theory of being the same band but having no original members. its not the same band, call it what you like and pretend it is, but it can never be. some bands survive personel changes, as the stones have done but I wouldn't want them to change any more members. some things can change members and have entirely different personel like football teams o

New York Times Article on how and why people and bands might get remembered. The "conclusion" may surprise you . . . or maybe not. Which Rock Star Will Historians of the Future Remember? One quote from the piece: "When I think of rock and who might survive, I immediately think of the Rolling Stones. They’re a band that sounds like what we’ve all decided rock ’n’ roll sh

Quotestanlove This is the only good moment Aerosmith ever gave me. I'm not Aerosmith's biggest fan, but it's big of you to kick a man when he's down. Total class. You're really elevating the conversation. No, not really. But do tell us more about how your deepest joy is reached though the pain and suffering of others. Very telling.

QuoteAquamarine Bands don't enjoy audiences who just sit on their hands. But they do like to take our money. When a band pays me hundreds of dollars to go to their concert I'll try and remember to wave a flag. The Beatles stopped touring because their fans wouldn't shut up and listen and other bands don't like it if the audience sits and listens to them play. These

QuoteHonkeyTonkFlash Edited OP since not everyone can agree what straight-ahead rock means... Why would you want to make it a single album? Put differently, I think you'll have as many disagreements as to what stays and what goes as you would when you're packing up the car if the house were on fire: "We're taking Casino Boogie with us" "Not if that means lea

Quotebitusa2012 I don't get High and Dry as a country tune at all. I hear pop with a touch of rockabilly, but no country. Country used to be called hillbilly music (still is in some places), right? It's all in the family. Rockabilly is country's first cousin and married to bluegrass. A countrified version

Believe it or not, Buddy Guy in Massey Hall. This was in April, 2006. I had seen him play four times the past January at Legends and loved every minute of it. The man was amazing and completely owned each and every concert. So I took my wife to see him in April when he came to Massey Hall and he couldn't finish a song or play anything in tune. Something was wrong. He was a completely di

Quotedcba It's the swing or (as Keef said) the "roll" that should always go with the "rock". Keef meant it's quite easy for a band to rock that is to hit hard on the audience. Most well-rehearsed bands can do that. Punk bands or metal bands rock hard. But the "roll" which you might call that sexy feminine element in the music is much harder to get.

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 I'm still surprised that no one is giving the formative years way more importance, Completely agree on the importance of the first 5 years of the band. You don't get to Beggars or Sticky Fingers without going through the early blues work or Aftermath. You don't get to Taxi Driver or Raging Bull without going through Mean Streets. And that
