QuoteDan QuoteKennedy Great show, up against the rail on the B stage. I seem to remember Mick joking that they had turned the LA Forum into a church before playing Far Away Eyes. (This was before the renovation, when the Forum was rarely used, except for a weekly Sunday gospel service) Nowadays I will go to almost anything here, it's just so nice inside and the sound is almost always g

QuoteMathijs QuoteGasLightStreet I can't remember who generally chimes in about Bobby on this tour. Doxa, perhaps. If I recall correctly, har har, Bobby joined in around 3/4 of the US tour and was on the entire 1982 tour. Bobby joined from October 9 in LA, and stayed until the end. So he played 90% of the tour. The second part of the 1981 is far better than 1982 in my opinion. In 1981 t

I have nothing but great respect for this platform and the info fans have been able to share and glean. Never met the board operator, don't need to, don't care to. His opinion doesn't matter.

Agreed! Always loved this version of one of their most underrated songs.

My first was a cool record store on Haight Street in SF, sometime in the mid 80s. They had a large selection of vinyl bootlegs, and I had no point of reference on which titles/labels to look for. So.. I made my best guess based on the tour I wanted and what looked like a cool show. This was my pick:

QuoteTeaAtThree While many Stones fans loathe the Grateful Dead, they have got the whole archival thing down. Quarterly releases of shows released from all eras, box sets of multiple shows from 1972, 1976, 1977, 1990 -- all tremendous years for them. As Stones fans we've gotten some true gems -- Brussels, Live at Leeds (71), Ladies and Gents, LA Friday, 78, Hampton, Atlantic City (89), Vo

His hair was actually pretty good for the very early shows of 89. See Toronto footage. But somewhere along the way shortly after, he went even shorter, and his hair just looked horrible. See Rock and a Hard Place video.

Quotedcba QuoteKennedy - the stilt walkers and jugglers who were scrapped for the SW tour Did I miss any? You missed the year : 1994. These props never got past the opening show(s) in Washington iirc. Ah - memory fading. Yes, that makes more sense.

If they ever do a "final tour", they should bring back all of the props: - inflatable penis - Billy Preston dance (Sorry, Chuck...it's all on you now) - firehose for the crowd - cherry picker - inflatable girls - platform on top of stage - the stilt walkers and jugglers who were scrapped for the SW tour - b stage - bridge - cage - Mick Taylor Did I miss any?

If we are talking only about which departure NEGATIVELY affected the band the most, it's Mick Taylor by a mile.

QuoteCaptain Teague QuoteDorn all the recent concert releases have a terrible sound quality (San Jose 99, Miami 94, BA 1998 etc) No idea which sources they used. Even Totally Stripped, originally either recording or mastering done analogically (i don´t remember), compare the Paradiso 26.5. GIMME SHELTER or SFM with the original 1995 releases - what a lousy job on the new releases. That just ai

QuoteGS1978 QuoteSighunt QuoteBig Al Thanks, Mathijs. Yes, once can imagine how loud it must've been on stage during that tour. Keith's volume was particularly high, seemingly. I also concur with a point you made in a previous posting of yours: 1989-90 really was Keith's peak in a live-setting. Speaking of loudness, as much as I loved the 89 Steel Wheels tour for the Ston

Bob Clearmountain is a miracle worker. Steel Wheels, until now, has been my least favorite modern tour. This mix corrects everything I disliked about the 89 sound. Keith and Ronnie's guitars dominate, as should be the case. Always. This is like listening to a completely different tour, and this might be my new favorite Stones show.

I dusted off VL just recently and was surprised at how well it holds up. By far their best work in the modern era (mid 80s to current) in my opinion.

QuoteRokyfan I thought his dominant keyboards spoiled many numbers on the 75 tour. Could not agree more. I remember reading a review of the Milwaukee County Stadium show, where someone described his keyboards as drowning out the rest of the band when his keyboards kicked in during HTW, literally shaking the entire stadium. With keyboards. Hard pass.

QuoteCamRS Kennedy, Although I am a fan of GHS and love this remix, I have been pondering the same thing since listening to the instrumentals. I think it was more than just Billy Preston influencing the Stones at the time. While I was not born until until later, in 1972-1973, Exile was still considered somewhat of a disappointment and produced no hit singles, which seemed like a big deal to

Let me start out by stating I realize I am in the minority when it comes to this album, as I know how beloved it is by so many. I am just not a fan of the Billy Preston tangent they took, and GHS reeks of Billy Preston to me. I am blown away by the alternate versions just released for Dancing w/ Mr D, Heartbreaker, and Hide Your Love. Guitar driven, MT on fire, Exile on Main Street swagge

I think the reverence to the 60s and 70s will fade as we all grow older, meaning our generation. I am on TikTok (because there are a lot of funny motherf**kers out there), and I see a lot of the younger generation show the same reverence to vintage Axl Rose and James Hetfield pictures from their heyday...much like we had for bands like the Stones, etc. Nothing makes you feel older than

Does anyone remember the interview a while back, but during the late era, where mick notices something on the floor next to his chair, picks it up, smells it, determines its hash, smiles and says "finders keepers!". I want to say late 90s?

Just a few years ago, I did an extensive "taste test" of all the popular 72 releases. Very unscientific, and purely based on the most satisfying performance and sound quality TO MY EARS. Philadelphia Special was my winner, hands down. Worthy of an official remaster and release for the Vault series.

QuoteJ.J.Flash Sucks my first time seeing them was in Wisconsin. 22nd row center was awesome though. I sat there for half the opening song just staring thinking "they're real" look they're right there. It was weird. lol That was my reaction as a 12 year old seeing them in person in 1981. 11/23/81 at Rosemont Horizon. After all that time only seeing them on TV and endles
