QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotebakersfield Jagger isn't singing about a rival, He's singing about a young man taking his daughter away. And he realises that in the long run,it serves him right. He describes the young man in ways that resemble his younger self, having it off with people's lovely young daughters. Now he's the protective father figure. A neat little song about how

Some of their lyrical stuff hasn't aged well. But a lot of their melodies were truly wonderful.

QuoteGazza Quoteguyrachel How did they possibly overlook this amazing track? First of all I thought this was a cover, but I love the jam, I love the melody I love the changes rhythm, and I love the lyrics, what’s not to love about this superb piece… Except why why why have they not released it? Its a pleasant listen, but calling it 'amazing' is a bit of a stretch. They might

Fantastic BlueTurns2Grey - I wasn't paying attention and nearly missed your post. This is one of the Holy Grails of lost recordings. Much better quality than the poor recording circulating. An early Xmas present - thankyou.

While listening to a mix playlist of several Stones recordings 'Gunface' came up. Musically great - funky with slashing guitars. But I struggle with the lyrics.. It just seems like an angry misogynistic rant. Or is Jagger making some kind of point here? Perhaps trying to convey the feelings of a badass abusive man. Is there any insight into this or none?

QuoteKRiffhard ...what is this Low Down 'Master Mix'??!! One of two unofficial/bootleg CDs supposedly containing different mixes from the BtoB sessions. It is believed that the mixes on both CDs are fakes. The BtoB track 'Low Down' is surely among the best of the later-era Stones tracks.

One presumes full versions of these tracks, and maybe others, still exist in the well-locked vaults. Also some collector's could be holding onto stuff they consider too valuable to part with. Being very pessimistic I presume one day, after the band ceases to exist, they'll eventually get around to raiding the vaults. Unfortunately many of us will be dead and there'll be very few ar

That's a nice simple cover. It's one of the Stones most covered songs and quite often played in a country style. Here is an example of one of Mick Taylor's performances - the song was a regular in his sets and as he says in his introduction, it's one of his favourites. He tends to alter the lyrics a little but plays it beautifully. Good as it is, I feel his style of

He's now 71 and retired. You'd think he'd have a few years in front of him yet. But there you go, at 71 he's maybe just weary of the travelling life. I'm surprised he's stopped playing though.. what a shame.

One of Jagger's better songs. We can only wonder how some of his songs would have turned out if they'd been recorded by the Stones. It would also be interesting to hear 'Say You Will', or some of his other songs, covered by a contemporary artist.

An interesting analysis of the the Beggar's Banquet inner sleeve photograph. It was Mick's idea to use the highlighted colours on parts of the image. And his biting into the green apple, presented on the end of Keith's knife, was likely a reference to the Beatle's Apple label. Well well!

That's propably a good theme for a thread - great music track let down by some uninspired lyrics. I'd definitely put 'Sweet Neocon' in that box.

QuoteTurner68 it's a very telling cover photo. brian is out front, and yet is he being pushed out? look at mick and keith, clearly very close to one another, and towering over brian. charlie at keith's back, and bill almost completely left out. great photograph. An interesting analysis of the photo. Did Gered Mankowitz give the composition that much concious thought vis-a-vis the grou

Quotetreaclefingers Quotebuttons67 gazza, the stones have a helluva big barrel to scrap though. ...and they'd be good scrapings. There are some very good unreleased tracks that have been floating around unofficially for many years and would be well worthy of official release. I'm sure they would sound so much better in pristine quality. I agree that we're a long way from barr

Quotenick Mick Taylor added some and performed it. Straying a little off-topic here. I often see Seperately listed as a Richards/Taylor composition although it could be mainly Taylor's inspiration. Mick performs a beautifully haunting version of the song. It certainly ranks among the best of his solo work.

Play With Fire - wheeled out a few times and a great song - could be expanded upon Moonlight Mile - played on the No Security tour. Ventilator Blues - they often reahearse this why don't they play it? Silver Train - one of my favs Dance Little Sister - great groove but only played a

In an alternative reality where Mick wasn't born then I think the very talented Brian Jones would still have formed a band around himself. It might have enjoyed some success (Keith wouldn't feature as he was a friend of Micks). Probably like so many 60s bands it would then fade into obscurity. What would have been Brian Jones' fate in this alternative timeline? he might still be ar

Interesting choice of the Undercover LP. It comes as a splash of colour. I presume it's being listed as memorable but bad, it doesn't usually make it on to the best-of lists. Among my favourite Stones LP covers is 'Get Yer Ya Ya's Out' with Charlie jumping for joy. It often gets listed in the best-of and worst-of categories. A good to bad list of Stones LP covers would
