I think the Stones have always covered r and b as well as soul tunes with great style. It is in their guts and they have always been fans of those artists whose songs they have chosen to cover. CTYL on the previous tour was fantastic for me. Sure it is isn't Otis, but the joy contained in numbers like that transfer very well in the hands of the Stones. I say bring it on with Mr. Pitiful. My point is that this song was recorded during this period and that even though Ruby Tuesday wasn't on the UK album it does represent a good example of the kind of music they were making at the time. I like the fact that we have UK/US releases. I grew up with the US releases as a young boy so these were all I knew for many years. To me it was all just great Stones music when it was released.

I absolutely love Buttons. A very creative period for the band IMHO. Brians contributions and the arrangements are wonderful. Despite growing drug issues, the band was quite prolific and I play this album often and listen to it with great affection. The video of Ruby Tuesday from the Ed Sullivan show reveals the band in great form. Brian and Keith are having some major fun and they clearly liked

I could never take Queen music for very long. Doesn't matter who fronts that band, although Paul Rodgers is a fine vocalist. I just didn't like their sound. Way to cutesy for my taste

This is a great song. The whole band is on form. Will translate very well live IMHO. It has the bite missing from singles we have had from the band in quite a long time. Very exciting to hear them rocking it up like few others can. Streets of Love on the other hand sounds completely lame, A "Goddess" throw away? I heard that one first and simply cringed. So along with ONNYA two out of t

T and A is right. Why would those songs be left off? They were clearly highlights from that tour. Real cherries. I strongly suggest that they open up the tour with Crazy Mama. As for live albums at least we got YaYa's the king of all live albums, by anyone...

My sympathy to you Charles. My dad is also very ill following cancer surgery. Just day to day right now. Sad Day is a underrated song that has a classic Stones sound that only they could make at that time. An excellent mix with the band on top of their game. I was listening to some old sessions outtakes the other day and an early run through with Keith on vocals for Dandelion stands out impressiv

Well said John. I am in complete agreement. No need to change what was put down on tape the way the band and the engineers wanted it. There has to be just a massive amount of Stones material out there that will bring us "new" Stones albums for a long time. Hopefully, the tapes are in good condition. I would like to see the Stones release a box set similar to what Mike Vernon did with th

Us older guys probably prefer mono because we first heard these songs through little radios with one speaker. The songs were mixed a certain way purposely knowing this is how they would be heard. Actually, I think the mono mixes stand up extremely well, and with a few exceptions I prefer them. Mono Let it Bleed is very cool. If you sit back at the right distance from the speakers the sound lands

I saw Hubert play the Chicago Blues Festival twice in one day last month. This old cat can still play, and is well worth spending the time to check out. I saw him play with Bob Margolin, Willie Smith, and Pinetop. I forget who was on bass. Hubert and Bob played together with no backing help early on a hot afternoon and they were simply fantastic. They covered lots of old Wolf and Muddy standards.

You guys are right about this show conveying a relaxed/ confident attitude from the band. Yes, there are MANY better concerts given by the Stones. The recording quality though is fantastic. This was a BBC feed wasn't it, and that's why the first songs were not included? Anyway, this boot has worn well and still sounds good after all these years. It rates high with me and shows what the

While it might be simplistic of me to suggest this, I have always felt that the Stones sound changed when they left Ampeg. Any of you sound afficionados have a comment on that notion? Much of this discussion would be muted if we had both Keith and Ronnie in equally fine form. I think Keith has been covering for Ronnie so long that he doesn't play his rhythm parts as we used to know them. Su

This is an excellent recording that all fans should have in their possession. I first heard this on vinyl in 1977. I was touring Europe and North Africa after I got out of school and bought the LP in a Amsterdam flea market. Has a picture of Charlie on the cover. Anyway, this album went all over Europe with me (packed in multiple layers of cardboard and tape) and it took until I arrived in Morocc

I didn't see Ely at any of those gigs, but the reviews were very good. I did see Peter Wolf at Fitzgeralds in support of his latest album and that was an amazing show. I went by myself and was floored by how good he was fronting that band. I agree that this was one of the best gigs I had been to in years and still feel that way. I spoke with Bill Fitzgerald yesterday about the Bump Band gig

Yes I saw the Bump Band at Fitzgeralds in November. I think that was their first gig up here and they didn't disappoint. It was a fun night, but their set last night for me was better because there were no seats and the club was completely full. They really seem to enjoy playing at Fitzgeralds and I am sure they will be back given the positive and very enthusiastic response from the crowd. T

The Small Faces rank right up there with some of the more creative bands from the 60's. Some very talented songwriters and gifted musicians. Once the Small Faces broke up their respective spin off collaberations were all successful as well which tells us how good they really were. Their music still sounds fresh today. I heard Mac and the Bumps play last night for the 3rd time in the past 8 m

If the Pistols play it would be worth the trouble going to hear them. I saw Mac and the Bump band last night and he dusted off What You Gonna Do About It from the Small Faces catalogue. Of course the Pistols did a great cover of that one. The Bump band was brilliant last night at Fitzgeralds. Simply smoked the room. Whenever I hear Mac live it makes me yearn for the Stones to rehire him, but this

Yes the Chess Studio is open as a museum, but the exact hours escape me. This tour is supposed to be fun yet it has changed since it first began when the studio became a museum that was started by I believe Willie Dixons wife. The place has changed since it was used as a studio. The old mixing board used by Ron Malo is apparently gone. The studio section has also changed. This said, the ghosts of

I think the mix on this song was simply one of the best ever done by the Stones. You can hear everything being played like its right there in the room with you.

We may be older, but we ARE still boys in our hearts and minds. The mirror may disagree, but really it is true. So yes, the Stones will always be The Boys to me and many other fans. It is an affectionate term.

The amps are cranked, some feedback. Starting with Little Queenie in 1969 the Stones built up incredible momentum towards the end of the shows, Mick was simply fantastic. He worked hard at getting the fans excited and that sequence of songs built the show to a climax of course with SFM. No encores, not neccessary. It would have been so cool if the entire MSG/Baltimore shows were filmed. I still t

The Stones have always been referred to as the THE BOYS as far back as I can remember. At parties when I was out with friends back in the late 60's-early 70's when it was time to put on a new record, we simply said "put on the boys". It was understood that this could only be the Rolling Stones. If a particularly irritating album was being played, we would loudly protest by say

While the recording of Carol on GYYYO! is fantastic, I actually like better other renditions from bootleg recordings of Carol made on this tour. Keith's solos differed from show to show, and the length of the solos also changed. Same with Queenie. On these bootlegs some shows had Stu up in the mix, like the Baltimore gig. Other times Keith or Taylor right in your face. When I am in the mood

It might sound like a trombone to you, but even with overdubs on that album there is no written record that horns were ever added. For sure this is a great track on that album and a highlight from the 1969 tour along with Little Queenie. I would love to hear the Stones bring back some Chuck Berry songs during the upcoming tour.

1708. Re: SACD
One certainly dislikes buying music we already have, but in the case of SACD the listening experience is enhanced( at least it is to me). I hope the medium sticks even if it simply satisfies a small audiophile niche. For example, I bought Marvin Gayes Let's Get It On recently and compared to the earlier released cd. Much richer, I would even call it a soft warm sound. Very similar to hearing

1710. Re: SACD
I think SACD is a fantastic format. That said not all SACD offerings are of equal quality based on what I have heard, but I am slowly accumulating a nice collection and have had very few disappointments. The Stones ABKCO SACD collection was very well done. The hybrid discs are cool because you can play them on regular cd players even if you don't have a SACD player, a surround amp/pre-amp or
