Quotedcba QuoteRobertJohnson Hear it just now first time, what an incredible energy and power ... I could name 8 shows from 75 that are hotter than this one but hey it's time for rejoicing not bitching. Still... >< the nice SB shows what the great Millard recording hinted at : this July 13 show was a up-and-down affair. Some songs were superbly performed others not so much. The

Turning to bootlegs, the 7 disc Stones Touring Party from Rattlesnake is pretty awesome. Nice box, great selection compiled from the better sounding 72 shows (Texas, Philly, MSG) into one collection. Oh yeah, the artwork/packaging ain't too shabby either. For Stones collectors, this is arguably at the top of the crop!

Quoteandrewm Yeah, sighunt, I asked for it for, it was either my 13th or 14th (probably 14th) birthday and I remember being so excited when it arrived but having to wait a few days to open it. Remember how long ordering things through the mail used to take? Asking for a catalogue (perhaps it was Pied Piper in the back of Creem, or Still Rare Records) then sending a money order and waiting......

Quoteandrewm As much as I love 7/13, having first heard most of it on the 3-lp TOTA box bought mail order 30 odd years, I think that first night, 7/9, is the hottest show. If I recall, the recording, while certainly not on the level of the well-known 7/13 tape, is still pretty good. Gonna have to dig that one out. I love the 7/13 show for sentimental reasons. From memory, I think this was the f

QuoteGazza QuoteWeLoveToPlayTheBlues I've never understood why the Stones can't tour like all other bands do. Likewise. I've also never understood why a band who we're told (ad nauseam) love performing so much have never even made a single public performance of any kind outside the confines of a mega tour since 1979. I would speculate that as they don't see each ot

Midnight Rambler Atlantic City 89 I was just listening to this the other day and Atlantic City 89 definitely does need a makeover. I would love to hear a newly remastered version of this show, which IMHO, contains arguably one of the best latter day versions of Midnight Rambler. The boys just smoke on this tune. Check out the instrumental break section.

Rest in Peace Davy! Although many people I grew up with got turned off by the Monkees manufactured image, I loved 'em. Like the Beatles and the Stones, they had a catalogue (although written by artists like Neil Diamond, Harry Nilsson & Carole King) of great commercial tunes (I especially loved Pleasant Valley Sunday). IMHO, two of their albums stand out as being- for lack of a better de

Since reading Bill German's book which documents life in the Stones during the 1980's, I really walked away with the sense that it was just more or less a business relationship; the boys getting together (especially Jagger) for the loads of money that could be made.

Overall, I thought it was a great show last night as it showcased a lot of different talent and a lot of different musical styles. Of course, I tend to be biased towards BRUUUUCCCE who rocked the house as far as I'm concerned. PS- Katy Perry & Rihanna-you two make a hot couple!!!

QuoteStoneage What happened in the mid 80s was that the band split up. Jagger's solo efforts were the start of it. They haven't worked as a group besides tours since then. And if it haven't been for the money they wouldn't have toured either. What we have is a dysfunctional band that only comes together every third or fourth year for a big moneygrabbing tour. They don't w

What an excellent thread. Yes, I began playing guitar at age 14 or 15 primarily because of them Stones influence. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I did not stick with it consistently so I became more or less an on again, off again guitarist much to the displeasure of my guitar teacher...

...one man's meat is another man's poison. Over the last couple months, I listened to the Stones last four albums and I still prefer Steel Wheels over Voodoo, Bridges, and Bigger Bang. Aside from it's production values, as a whole, that album rocks. I'm in the minority here who thinks that Mixed Emotions is one of the best of the last great rockers the Stones recorded. I also

Great article! My major fear: Alright, suppose these guys actually get the hint (yeah this is fantasy) and return to the road via a stripped down affair like Rolling Stone suggests (no back-ups, no fireworks, no big stadiums, no distractions-just the music!!)...Can the principals go out on stage and produce a musically satisfying show without embarassing the hell out of themselves??? This is wha

QuoteGazza Quotestupidguy2 I rememember reading some of these quotes. Mick's comments about Patti Smith are interesting. He was really nasty in interviews during this time, I don't if he was grumpy because of his divorce or just trying agitate, but Mick's comments during this time should be taken with a grain of salt. During this time, he also made very denigrating comments abou

I think the version of Tumbling Dice on this show is killer. IMHO, it rocks you out of your seat and it brings that swagger that typifies what the Stones do best. Oh, and that Wood guitar solo (which ain't too shabby either) fits perfectly with this version.

I have listened to Hampton 81 all the way through and aside from this newest mix which I like (very clear, brilliant, hear some musical nuances that I never heard before), the integrity of the show remains intact. However, I have listened to Time Is On My Side several times and compared it to the original taped broadcast version that I own and I could swear that the vocals have had a subtle work-

QuoteNoCode0680 QuoteErik_Snow QuoteNoCode0680 QuoteErik_Snow Everybody here, me included, who is somewhat disappointed in Hampton 1981 was absolutely satisfied with both Brussels and Fort Worth. So there's no need to try twisting this into the lame "people here are never satisfied". That's just BS. Brussels and Fort Worth was stunning. And Hampton is also stunning. But the
