QuoteMaindefender LA '73 If that's the Nicaragua earthquake benefit, that's my vote too. I have a bootleg with terrible sound quality that's still a ton of fun to listen to.

I was scrolling through a list of the all-time best selling LPs in the US recently. I was surprised how long I had to keep going until I got to a Stones record. That LP was Hot Rocks.

QuoteFrogSugar "British Made"...looks hella old, must be one of the first examples of rock and roll licencing. Bill Wyman rocking a 6 string! Those drawings are pretty good likenesses. Funny that the artist got Bill's instrument wrong.

Quoteswimtothemoon The actual interview must have been very short. I would think not much more than 15 minutes. To make the piece interesting, the writer/interviewer had to embellish and build a story around it. One of the the best Mick interviews was in Rolling Stone - maybe 15 or 20 years ago - where the interviewer asked him about specific songs from the Stones catalog. As I remember there wa

I was once in a bookstore where Patti Smith was doing a signing. While she was autographing my copy of her book, Lenny Kaye came up to her, excited because he had found two copies of the novelization of Performance on the store's clearance shelves. I was quite jealous. In fact, I had glanced at the clearance shelves earlier and had somehow failed to notice these treasures. This was in 1977,

I wouldn't call it bad exactly, but given that there are no songs that really make you sit up and take notice, it's far too long. If there were only ten tracks it might be easier to focus on them and appreciate the good qualities they do have, but as it is, the album feels like 100% filler.

QuoteHarlem Shuffler QuoteLeonioid QuoteHarlem Shuffler .... All rap. Always here to help. Harlem Shuffler at your service. I would agree with this, but it is technically incorrect, as rap is not actually songs, or even music... and it is not actually "written"... the raps is spittted out as someone shouts over the sound of an existing song, destroying the original, making it no

Quote24FPSI just don't think Charlie really gets rock music. I can never get over what strange good fortune gave us the Rolling Stones. How bizarre is it that drummer for the "World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band" doesn't even like rock and roll?

And it shows me once again, that - Apart from a new album, what is there really left to talk about? I am speaking only for myself; not cynical. The Ratbag, Rene's threads - those are gold. It's a compilation that should b

QuoteHis Majesty QuoteMonsoon Ragoon Many. At least a dozens photos. Most taken outside the castle on the field. He means the sessions with Raffaelli in 1969. Yes, that's right. It's a very effective image, and quite iconic, at least if you are my age. It seemed like absolutely everybody owned a copy of Hot Rocks when I was in high school. I'm curious what else they did at

QuoteMarthijn i am wondering for a while why the UK Sticky is different from the US cover. the " sticky fingers" stamp is another stamp. and on the official promo poster (the guys holding up the album sleeve) the have used yet another version. it has the US stamp, but on the other side. did anybody see that version else were, or does some one have this one. QuoteGasLightStreet Overall, the songs are very busy. It doesn't seem like an album that could be toured unless, even then, they slowed some things way down, since there are some very fast and agitated tracks. I think it sounds more agitated than it is because of the production. I think that was a real mistake on ALO's part. It sounds sort of shallow, if that's the word. I'

QuoteHis Majesty QuoteBlueranger What's the story behind the FRONT cover? It was AFAIK done specifically for the compilation, since it was released in full agreement with ABKCO. No, it's just taken from one of the few photo sessions Ron Raffaelli had with the stones in 1969. Are there any other photos from that session around? I don't think I've ever seen anything similar

Quotewhitem8 Yeah, the mix for Exile is great! No need to remaster. Mick always likes to poo poo old ideas and stuff. And he doesn't like or understand the mythic status of Exile. I suspect secretly he is in awe of it, but he never likes living up to legends and likes to be contrary. I agree, and I also think that Mick is pretty clearly a control freak. From that point of view Exile ought

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 It is incredible to me - is there any other band that can sit there in WHITE TIGHTS, but otherwise all scuffed up, and still look great? Is that from the sessions for the Goats Head Soup cover? I read someplace that the original idea was to portray the band as satyrs, which involved photographing them in tights so that the photos could be airbrushed more easily. Appa

QuoteGasLightStreet There's never been any suggestion anywhere I've ever read that Gram Parsons had anything to do with Dead Flowers. And anything regarding recording, same thing - he just hung out in the house. I read a biography of Gram Parsons a few years ago. I don't remember the exact wording, but the author says that it's puzzling that there wasn't any collaborati

QuoteHairballThey more than likely have TONS of stuff they could revisit, it's just a matter of agreeing and/or compromising on their varying visions for the direction of the new album. Maybe not tons, but I have heard enough random unreleased bits and pieces from years ago to be convinced that they could cobble together a very good album out of that sort of thing if they wanted to. QuoteKevinLocksPerm What will life be like for you once the final album is released, the final show played? Until one of the three remaining original members passes away I doubt that we will have any way of knowing that a given show or song is the last one. I can't imagine that the Stones or any of their employees would ever actually say that it's over in so many words.

QuoteDandelionPowderman Yeah, one might wonder if they care anymore. Although the story about Mick refusing Clearmountain's «clean» version of Sticky Fingers Live is fascinating. Mick clearly wanted something extra out of that show, at least sound-wise. I guess it's because as we all know Mick has almost no interest in the past. The Sticky Fingers show was a new project, and he n

QuoteDoxaSurely the idea is that the whole band is in the same room (but like pointed out here above, that's nothing extraordinary but the way the Stones generally work). Don Was said someplace how surprised he was the first time he worked with the Stones. He was so used to contemporary recording techniques that he couldn't get over how they actually sat in a room together and played

Quotewonderboy Well, I will say it -- I wonder what kind of deal Mick and Keith (and/or Charlie) have worked out. We'll never know, but I would be willing to bet that it makes sense to all concerned. We've seen some sniping about other matters, but there has never been a hint of any hard feelings between Bill and the remaining Stones regarding the financial aspect of his leaving the b

QuoteHairballthe fact they no longer spend much time together in the studio is a bigger problem Yeah, the working method they evolved that led to them producing their best work involved spending endless hours in the studio, trying things out until something clicked. Mick and Keith can't or won't work together that way these days. Setting aside any personal issues, they are in their 70

QuoteIanBillen There is good reason to think the album will come .. I'd say its more than just an idea .. Id say its a working plan in action .. though a very...very slow one. They don't really need to put anything out, so I suspect there is a temptation to hold off on releasing what is virtually certain to be The Last Rolling Stones Album Ever, something that would unavoidably feel l

Quotegotdablouse Thanks for sharing. Didn't realize their relationship ran so deep. The extensive 1995 interview is still the best one Mick ever did I think, a rare look back in the past and admitting "failure", like no longer having Taylor around and not being happy with the way Voodoo Lounger turned out... I was really impressed with Jann Wenner for managing to get Mick to talk
