QuoteShade Here we go again. The Taylor Mo's pining away for days gone by. The band thrived after his departure and, incredibly, managed to become legends before he showed up for a cup of tea. Thrived financially, maybe, but they lost it musically after Taylor left. A few OK tunes here and there is about the best that can be said for their work after 1974.

QuoteDoomandGloom The closer the tour gets the more I'm convinced they are making a big mistake not taking Bill with them if he is willing. While I do not believe they are any greedier than anyone in their position would be it appears this no-brainer is driven by money. Having no idea what terms he'd be willing to accept I wonder if there is any scenario that could put him on stage.

Quotechop It was likely Keith that asked Bill back for the reunion shows. I doubt Mick cared much at this stage, but Keith has said things ("I lost my rhythm section when he left") that indicated he was the catalyst of Bills guest spots I've noticed that Keith has gone out of his way in interviews over the years to compliment Bill's playing, or make good natured jokes featur

QuoteHis Majesty Quoteblivet It was Brian and Stu's band; they recruited Mick and Keith. But if the name is the important thing, the band you are talking about -- the one with Dick Taylor and Tony Chapman -- was called The Rollin' Stones. Bill and Charlie are founder members of The Rolling Stones. The g is there on the articile and poster for their debut at The Marquee, but it's

It wouldn't be out of line to expect a little more importance accorded a visit from a member of the original line-up -- one they never replaced, for that matte

Quote24FPSMick barely looks at the other musicians up there with him on the stage now. He looks more involved when he's playing with others, be it U2, or at the White House or on SNL. I really get the feeling that he's decided that since he can't seem to make a go of it as a solo act he's going to do his damnedest to turn the Stones into his backing band. "Where's

Quoteduke richardson and Bill, he's got a lot of revenue from other sources..books, restaurants, even a bass guitar he was plugging during his brief appearances with the Stones.. That's probably more what he meant by "working" than touring with his band, which he says in the same interview doesn't make all that much money.

Quoteowlbynite Quotestonehearted I doubt that Bill was thinking of rejoining as a full-time Stone. It is more that Bill is now at a point in his life where he is willing to be a bit more generous in recalling a part of his life [30 years worth] that he has left behind. We read in another thread how Bill was only able just recently to open up emotionally about his years in The Stones in those unre

Quote24FPS To us they're the freakin' Rolling Stones. To Bill, they were the band he was in. Something tells me a lot of the old animosities and crap surfaced. Mick bitched about Bill not helping finish songs more in that '95 interview. Of course Bill's side was probably that he'd given up trying to contribute and get credit for and he just did his bass part, period. He

Quotelatebloomer If Bill really wanted to play with his old band mates, then he should have taken what they offered and once in, he could have pushed for what he wanted. Instead, he whines to the press. I think part of his disappointment was that it wasn't really "playing with his old bandmates". If I understand the reports correctly, Jagger was barely present at the rehearsal/j

QuotebillwebsterHad they released an album's worth of songs (or maybe even just 4 of them) things would certainly be different, but buying a double disc set for just 2 songs was out of the question. I'm repeating myself, but if they'd put out a picture sleeve 45 RPM vinyl single of the new hit song and B-side from that fab pop combo "The Rolling Stones" I would have bee

QuoteSpud It's got up sides and down sides but it's hard to see how they could have gone any other way. Tne "modern era" Stones have kind of been victims of their own continued popularity and pulling power. They couldn't really have downscaled, even if they'd wanted to. Big Stadiums & Arenas required a big production...which required discipline and a certa

Quotetonterapi Let's pretend you and I are in the same band and most of the songs are written by me and another member. Then suddenly you bring in a nice piece of melody that me and the other guy use as a verse and finish into a new song. Wouldn't you like to have credit for that melody? IMHO it wouldn't matter if you are the one who writes the majority of songs or not. If you writ

Quoteozziestone High Fidelity is a great book (not a bad movie either) the rest of his stuff is not as good IMHO Agreed. High Fidelity really is top-notch. The others are fine, but IMO he could stand to take more time on them. They don't have the same, ahem, richness of texture.

QuoteMileHigh Hot Rocks certainly spawned a whole generation of Stones fans that were just too young to have gotten it in the late Sixties and very early Seventies. I remember some GHS song names were leaked in the summer of '73 and we wondered what they were all about just from the titles. Then Angie was heard on the radio for months. We're around the same age, and yeah, as someo

Personally I'm glad they probably won't release another album. The final "single" of "Doom and Gloom" backed with "One More Shot" is a nice way to bow out gracefully. I do wish they would release it in a 45 RPM vinyl version on Rolling Stones Records, but you can't have everything.

QuoteLadykillerCharlie is not an orginal member, he joined them 7 month later. They did also not stopped as Bill quit the band. Mick and Keith must be in the band. By that standard, Mick and Keith aren't original members either. Brian and Stu got together first, and recruited the others.

Quote24FPS What is it with people not giving Jagger his due? Who found Rupert in the first place? Who kept the band together while Keith was shooting half of Afghanistan into his arm? Just because Keith seems more approachable, and we know he can be as phony as anyone, Mick gets cut down. Mick has the right to keep employees like Lowenstein at arms length. I agree. There's plenty to snipe

Quotejamesfdouglas Quoteblivet There was a rather fascinating interview with Jagger about how the business of the Rolling Stones is structured some years back in Fortune, but that's about it as far as I know. Found it. IIRC there was also an accompanying interview with Jagger along the lines I indicated. Questions about the nuts and bolts of the business, like "Is it a partnersh

Quotejamesfdouglas QuoteBraincapers whether Mick is upset or not I do find it odd, and unprofessional, that their accountant has written a book about their finances. Yes, absolutely. While it DOES provide us fans with a competely different angle of the band's story/history - enough perhaps for some of us to consider buying the book (it kept my attention reading the excerpts) I would guess,

Quote24FPS Bill was always underrated. Darryl agrees with you. Sorry I can't give a source, but back when he was still relatively new to the Stones I read an interview with him in which he said that in order to prepare for his new gig he listened to the band's catalog closely and said that in his opinion Wyman was a very underrated bass player.

Quotemidnrambler QuoteBlueranger The censored version was only on the first batch of re-releases. It changed back to the normal version afterwards. But only in the USA. I know it's butchered, but it's the version that sounds normal to me and I wouldn't mind getting hold of a digital version. Can you tell me what to look for? I'll buy a copy if I ever see it.

Quotemitchmitchell I am happy to say that I have not given the Stones a dime in 35 years. This comment made me think. I can't match that, but the last recording of theirs I bought new in store was the Flashpoint CD. It's pretty easy to find their modern-day output used, so I have kept up the collection, pretty much out of inertia. Still don't own a copy of Got Live If You Want It

QuoteRollingFreak Quotetatters Exile On Main Street Bingo! Took me years to like the whole album. I still can't stand "Sweet Black Angel". Pretty much everything about it rubs me the wrong way: the tune itself, the arrangement and sound mix, and of course Jagger's fake Caribbean vocal stylings.

I remember where I was when I heard Bill Wyman had quit the band, because it was so out of the blue. I was in a hotel room, and had a few minutes before going out to dinner, so I turned the TV on. There immediately appeared an short interview with Mick Jagger on the subject of Bill Wyman's resignation from the Rolling Stones. "I guess he doesn't want to do it anymore," said Mi
