QuoteDoomandGloom With a few weeks to digest what we witnessed I can't help but become less critical of the Stones performances and begin to place those nights in historical perspective. In a way the anniversary celebration can only be compared to The Beatles goodbye some 40 years ago and I'd say The Stones did pretty darn good with their farewell which I hope continues for a decade...

Quotedcba QuoteDoomandGloom Charlie was not at his best, there were other drummers who played. D&G Can you confirm Anton Fig sat on the stool? No one can confirm anything about which drummers played on which tracks, because the liner notes do not say. An online search does no good either. All that's there is a laundry list of names in a "Special thanks to:" section of the

Neither. Macca beats them both by a mile in a scene filmed for his 1984 movie Give My Regards To Broad Street, where he is filmed actually busking in front of a London train station--and no one recognizes him! Here's the story behind that scene and what Paul thought about not being recognized in public, with a guitar and singing perhaps his most famous tune no less. Paul McCartney

QuoteGasLightStreet If January 12, 1963 is going to be Keith's 50 years then January 11th, 2013 is the celebratory day of 50 years. In two more days it will be exactly 50 years since Charlie played his first gig as a Rollin' Stone. So when did they become The Rolling Stones? I don't remember that one. Friday 11 January 1963 is the date of the last gig that Tony Chapman played

Good news for Stones fans who wish to visit sites of historical significance associated with the band: As of 2011, the building that housed the Red Lion Pub has been placed on the heritage list of protected local landmarks. Below is an article dated 13 May 2011. A pub which helped The Rolling Stones on their road has been added to a list of protected buildings in Sutton. The Winning Post w

I read somewhere that The Stones front line dropped acid before a show as late as 1977. One of those many Stones books/bios, so probably not that reliable. The trouble with LSD is that it's laboratory synthesized and the paper it's blotted on may contain chemicals that can lead to bad trips . Unlike our 60s forbearers, we often don't have access to the pure liquid form they used

Nothing speaks to the lazy tone of a sizzling summer night quite like Can't You Hear Me Knocking, especially Mick Taylor's jazzy playout. So, therefore, Sticky Fingers. Brown Sugar also speaks to southern-fried nights of the U.S. Of course, you can't go wrong with Exile--when listening in a heat wave you can almost feel the oppressive humidity of the basement in Nellcote in which i

The Bobster won't be around in 2052 but Sony or whoever owns the copyrights then will be. As will members of his family and their descendants .

For this choice, I will have to pick a cover: Little Red Rooster. A defining moment for The Stones. In taking pure rhythm and blues to the top of the charts in Britain, they did what no other recording artist before--and, I believe, since--managed to accomplish. The Stones established their reputation through their interpretation of the blues, and this track is as authentic an interpretatio

Wouldn't a simple across-the-board remastering of his back catalog solve the problem of copyright extension? Has his catalog ever been remastered? It would be a sweet payday for him, as well as a treat for fans. All the ABKCO remasters, for instance, have 2002 as the copyright date. It could be that ABKCO had this in mind to keep their rights to the catalog from slipping into the public d

Though the classic Rolling Stones lineup first played onstage 12 January 1963 at Ealing Jazz Club, there would be several gigs yet before Wyman and Watts were made full and permanent members. You could say that Undercover Of The Night is the last classic The Stones came up with, though a lot of people like to stop with Start Me Up--which accounts for UOTN's being underrated. Start Me Up was The Stones in the 70s, but UOTN is a great example of The Stones in the 80s--their first, and perhaps their only, example of greatness in the 80s. And, of course, unlike Start Me Up, people wi
